Man is going to the moon!

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't be surprised if we watch a real live moon landing within two decades, ESA is already expanding the capability of the ATV and Ariane. We may even see a Mars landing before 2100.

Wasn't japan or china planning setting up a base in the moon in 2040-2042?

It was the Cold War that got man on the moon in the first place, fierce competition does wonders to schedules. Now nobody cares. It took 8 years from the announcement to get there, now we're talking several decades, which is pathetic.

oh but you guys can't have missed that its running again.. India and China is like "wtf, why not be first on moon to start mines and get some minerals".

Why you think USA "suddenly" started to put so much intreset in the moon.. its because of India and China.

(Less intreseting but still, Sweden wants to send a small red cottage, japan some robots and Malaysia is starting their own space program.)

The recent interest by the US is due to international competition. When Russia and ESA signed a collaboration deal which includes ESA being able to use Soyuz to complement the fleet and Russia being able to use the European space port at Kourou instead of Baikonur which means payload could increase (being closer to the equator) and the decommissioning of the Space Shuttle program the US see NASA's position being matched as an ego slap.

Obviously the large amount of independent projects by ESA like Herschel and Planck and the increased self-reliance by ESA with Ariane 5 and projects like Galileo that is a more accurate system than its American competitor GPS. All of that and perhaps a massive budget increase should the Lisbon Treaty be ratified and ESA adjoin the EU as a directorate.

The next crack like that from anyone will result in a holiday for the offender.

Even in jest or sarcasm.

Yea that was pretty interesting. Can only laugh at those conspiricy nuts who claim it's a hoax though.

I like this part:

9 of the known 12 who landed on the moon still survives.[86] The project involved about 20000 companies, 200 Universities, 80 Research institutes and over 400000 people along with the former USSR agencies spying on the USA, which is impossible to cover-up information by killing a few dozens of highly unrelated astronauts.[87]

:p

Yeah. Actually that part you quoted doesn't make much sense as it seems to be directly translated from Chinese without reviewing (The source stated is a Chinese newspaper).

Well, but wikipedia is free to edit for everybody, so check those sources and you can have a lot of fun :p

Still, numbers don't lie. There were thousands involved in the moon landings, do you really think that they could shut up all of them?

I sign this with all my heart! It's pathetic indeed - Mankind may have its serious problems on earth but the race for space shall stay one of our formost issues.

On the other hand there where more than 100.000 involved in the Manhattan project. With everyone just having the bit of information needed to get a particular job done, and only a selected few in top positions of the hierarchy having a complete overview.
