Mindwalker 0 Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) Good news everyone. There is a new Mechwarrior-game on the horizon, and by all reports, it's supposed to be set in 3015. It's NOT MechWarrior 5. It's more like a reboot of the series. They did like Star Trek and pushed the reset-button. Developer: Piranha Games. Publisher: TBA Release-date: TBA <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9VBrPREN4Y&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9VBrPREN4Y&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> Q&A with the developers: http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html Another interview: http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html Theories: The game will not include heavy modding of your mechs as seen in MechWarrior 3 and 4, since changing weapons on mechs took a LONG time in 3015. (Source; A friend who's a damn BattleTech/MechWarrior encyclopedia on legs.) But I need my Mech-fix NOW: Well, MechWarrior 4 will be free soon (August?). Also, MechCommander is free. http://mechcommander.org/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=53 Edited July 14, 2009 by Mindwalker Added stuff to the OP. sanctuary 19 Posted July 11, 2009 What's even more awesome is that MekTek has been authorized by Smith & Tinker to distribute Mechwarrior 4 + expansions for .... free, for MekTek 10th anniversary and Battletech 25th anniversary.

I used to play it a lot on the tournament circuit.I'm so glad the series is uncanned. I hope the video closely represents the gameplay and the GFX standard. That guy 10 Posted July 11, 2009 well, it is NOT mechwarrior 5, its just MW ( a reboot of the franchise as they called it) if you even watched the trailer then you would know that the game is based in 3015 during the 3rd succession war between the fed suns and draconis combine here is the premier IGN QA with the head guys http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html i for one am totally psyched about a new simmy BT game. My first games were C&C and MW2. I have high hope for this game, I surly hope they find a publisher that is willing to give them unrestricted creative freedom wile showering them with oodles of cash. So far I trust these guy to not mess up the game world willingly Also that vid is supposedly all ingame footage. I sure hope its not OPFDR "in game footage" :D
Baff1 0 Posted July 11, 2009 It's MW6 mate. 5 was on the Xbox. And that looked like CGI to me.
That guy 10 Posted July 11, 2009 There was not mechwarrior game on the xbox that was mechASSAULT and it did not count as a game even remotely associated with BT (other than some mechs that looked similar) :p Yeah i though it was CGI as well, but in the bottom right of the screen it says "ingame footage", and in the interview on IGN they say its in game. Barely-injured 0 Posted July 11, 2009 Finally they are back. I cant tell you how many hours I have spent on Mechwarrior 2:Mercs. I really hope it is a Sim in the tradition of the older games. I am really happy about the choices I have seen so far: it is classic battletech rather than the new weird stuff and also 3015 is a pretty good year choice. I always wanted a good mechwarrior game with a powerful editor like the ofp/arma series that would be just plain awesome to recreate a lot of scenarios from the very rich battletech universe. Alright i think i am dreaming too far ahead I will shut up now :o
Redfield-77 10 Posted July 11, 2009 Either the Atlas wasnt big enough or the Warhammer was too big but other than that it looks cool. The PPC cannon fire and the SRM hits on the building were awesome. I hope thats in game footage.
Baff1 0 Posted July 11, 2009 There was not mechwarrior game on the xboxthat was mechASSAULT and it did not count as a game even remotely associated with BT (other than some mechs that looked similar) :p Yeah i though it was CGI as well, but in the bottom right of the screen it says "ingame footage", and in the interview on IGN they say its in game. It says BattleTech on the box. Same game engine. Same art. Same mechs. Same FASA developers. Same missions. Same game. It was a great game mate, the Xbox had all the hardware power needed to run the engine and the controller suited the interface well. It was an OTS instead of first person but otherwise the same as all the others. I didn't get into MechAssault 2. Health packs and stuff. Eeew. I suspect that is ingame footage, but ingame CGI footage and not gameplay footage if you see what I mean. The opening title sequence.
Maddmatt 1 Posted July 11, 2009 I suspect that is ingame footage, but ingame CGI footage and not gameplay footage if you see what I mean. The opening title sequence. They licensed the Unreal 3 engine. So all they really need is some art assets and then the animators and scripters can make an "in-game" video. The voice acting hints that it's scripted. Here is a very in-depth interview with the developers: http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html By the sounds of it the game still has a long way to go. I just hope it turns out good :)
Colossus 2 Posted July 12, 2009 Yes! MW3 was one of my favorites, hope these guys don't ruin any of the original feel. :D
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted July 13, 2009 Hmm, last Mechwarrior game I played was Mechwarrior 2 (and that was MANY years ago). I might check this game out, if anything it could be nostalgic... I used to be a bit of a Mechwarrior fan way back (ah good memories... how rare).
Worldeater 2 Posted July 13, 2009 Yeeehaaa! Saddle my Daishi, it's CQB time again! Full armour, AC's only. Oh, and paint it orange... no need to hide! :D
max power 21 Posted July 13, 2009 Maybe they ensmallened the Atlas to fit it in the city easier... It's cool to see they still have parkades in the year 3015.
