Wull 10 Posted July 9, 2009 Hi. I have only managed to mark a map with a cross marker and text, I have seen others online who seem to have managed to mark it with a crescent shape with arrows indicating a direction of travel. How is it that they do this and are there other marks I can drop on the map? Thanks in advance.
maxter 10 Posted July 9, 2009 When you doubleclick on the map so the marker appears and you're able to "name it", you can use the arrow keys (up/down) to toggle between different shapes, and shift+arrows (or was it ctrl?) to change colour.
llauma 0 Posted July 9, 2009 Place a marker on the map and use the arrow keys to switch markers Edit: Slow as usual but yes, it's the shift +arrow key to change color
mrcash2009 0 Posted July 9, 2009 Im going to be wrong but check the manual also but as you type in the box I think you either pageup/down or arrow up/down which will scroll through available icons before you commit to it. The keys im completely forgetting but im sure its one of those sets. LOL as I was pondering other posters got in quicker :)
frederf 0 Posted July 9, 2009 Double click to place map marker. Arrow up/down to change shape. Shift+Arrow up/down to change color. Mouseover and press Delete to remove marker. Be advised that mapmarkers are placed in chat channels just like text/VON communication. If you place a mapmarker in Group channel then only people in your group will see it. If you place a mapmarker in Global channel then the enemy will see it too!
cid_gen_bondorf 0 Posted July 9, 2009 Is there a way of marking the map that it'll show up as a reference for me and my team-mates to follow? This would be one that you can visually see and not have to look at the map. Sort of like the way the diamond shows up in your view to see where your team-mates are located. Or being able to set a series of waypoints on the map so that you can view them on the GPS? (Not sure if I am off the topic here. Sorry if I am) Thanks for the info ;)
frederf 0 Posted July 10, 2009 The 3D UI indicators are waypoints which are not map markers. They can be created, moved, etc with scripting but not in the base game. Refer to the scripting biki entry here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Scripting_Commands_ArmA with note of addWaypoint, deleteWaypoint, setCurrentWaypoint. The GPS always shows the map so map markers are visible in the GPS as well.
cid_gen_bondorf 0 Posted July 10, 2009 Thanks Frederf. I'll look into that. Maybe I can implement it into the mission. Thanks again :D
Wull 10 Posted July 10, 2009 Thanks for all the replies that helps a lot. With the icons that are directional, can they be spun round so that the arrows are pointed on a bearing of the user's choice?

shivee 10 Posted July 10, 2009 Extra question, is it possible to mark something on map that you ie see through scope or something like that? IE. You see a T-72 in scope or bino and want to add a marker on map for it.
frederf 0 Posted July 11, 2009 Unless there's a script for it like the UAV module... no. All map markers have to be made on the map. This ain' BF2, son!

Heh, I thought I did remember this from Arma 1 but just asked a friend and guess I just remembered it from BF2 instead. I'm fine without it but thought it was there from the first game :)

jakerod 254 Posted May 29, 2011 @doc.brownYou can, press left shift and move mouse to turn the marker, you can use this to all turn units, vehicles etc. this is about the ingame map not the mission editor. I have never been able to turn them but it also took me years to figure out the whole change the color thing so maybe there is a way.
pipscouse 10 Posted May 29, 2011 Same here. You can't turn the direction of the arrow with the mouse in vanilla (or at least I can't)

no use for a name 0 Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) thanks for reply to all of you guys,it´s a pity but i have to accept :( that they are unturnable. If you just need a single, quick reference marker then hold left-shift+left click, and a waypoint will show up that you can see in your player view (if your difficulty options allow). Then just bring up the map and left-shift+click again, and it will move it, so you can change it "on-the-fly". Works excellent when traveling long distances to get a general heading. kylania 568 Posted May 31, 2011 You are able to rotate markers in the editor, not in game though.
