Ghillie suit could use some improvement against AI

that's odd. I had a patrol almost step on me on Takistan and they didn't see me. It was on that SP sniper mission. Then again maybe that was scripted. I'm not sure. They were literally less than 1m away from me though and the one guy looked down at me but just kept walking.

Imho somekind of "cloak" feature is already implemented..

It should not make someone with Ghilie fully invisible to anyone incl. AI - even if he is prone. If its suspicious player/AI should have to investigate with sights/binocular or/and getting close.

Such magic+cheating features should stay in fantasy and scifi games.

There's varying AI skill and also the direction they are facing that may affect their detection abilities a lot more than you think.

Not to mention available light. In the dark, non NVG units are practically blind. Time to implement smell? :D

Didn't DMWarwick have something like a HIDE in action menu that built a small mound around you over time that made you invisible to AI unless you moved or fired?

He sure had. Very nice function. Basically simulating a sniper getting into concealment with a semi transparent camo "net" over himself. If you shot your rifle the concealment would be ineffective for a little period of time to go back to full again.

Hmm well I do use an ArmA2/OA version, but I never considered it for release as the hiding functionality is altered by the new ArmA2 script scheduling system, basically script-lag can make the hide movement unpredictable. It still works, but sometimes it takes a LONG time for the hide to be fully deployed. In order for me to see how well I'm hidden (or not) I have a temporary sandy coloured camo netting visible element which is rather ugly. However for AI SP games it's perfect as the AI don't "see" the visible part, only the viewblock part. :)

For people new to this old ArmA1 addon - it basically spawned a doughnut-shaped viewblock object around the player, allowing him to be hidden from AI but seen by AI if the AI got close enough (by seeing down into the doughnut). The viewblock took a while to rise out of the ground so it wasn't an insta-hide, and also the viewblock would drop when the player fired, so it had severe limitations. However, clever sniper positioning and spaced-out shots enabled you to behave more like a sniper against AI.

In OA we have the protectedzone object, that you can even set a color to. Does similar object exist in OA that only block view but not bullets (the other way around)?

Doesn't ACE spawn "viewblocks" around smoke grenades?

Maybe not, the particles themselves are viewblock objects.

I did a video recently, testing the AI with an without guille suit, but I think I set the AI very low
