Bis developer question

Recommended Posts

BIS,

What is it that keeps your interests in continuing to develope such a cool game?

For some its the mission editing, others its game play, and some it is developing mods and addons.

Personally I like developing and playing coop missions.

I feel i have to ask at this point,

Do BIS or Codemasters actually even look at these forums?

I often wondered if the developers rreally read these forums, now I know. biggrin.gif

I always find it interesting when someone titles a post something like "BIS please read" or "This is for the developers".

Good to know that the team has it's finger on the pulse of the OFP community. smile.gif

Interesting question. For sure, it's different to every member of our team.

Myself, I still enjoy it all - single player, multiplayer, mission editing.

I knew that BIS were always looking in this forum. Its their customer research to improve their products.

Didnt anyone notice that BIS annonced that the resistance addon would have larger islands, better net codes and a few other things Ive seen on this forum. Also I think that they make patches becuase of what we have said we dont like on OFP

I could imagine, that after the BIS people have worked for over 4 years on this game, they want to finish it as they have wanted, not abandon it even though it isnt propably sold anymore that much. A really good thing I have noted on BIS people is that they really do this game because they want to, and because they enjoy doing it. Too many game developers nowdays do games just because they get money from it, but all the really good and innovative games like OFP come from developers just like BIS who's main concern is not to get alot of money from the game, but to make the game good and so that people enjoy playing it.

I'm a programmer, although I don't develop games.

I was wondering, how much of the work with OFP was programming, and how much was the other stuff, like

artwork, mission editing, and so on..

10,000+ files, 250,000 lines of C++ (some assembly), 5,000 textures, 800 3D models, 100,000 words (localized into six other languages), more than 60 single-player and multiplayer missions.

If you're interested to learn something more about the development of OpFlash I recommend to read a post mortem we wrote with Suma for GD Mag and Gamasutra.
