TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

Recommended Posts

I was able to use my TrackIR with ArmA 2 OA. Although I have version 4, but I don't know why version 4 would work and 5 wouldn't. Are you sure you activated the TrackIR in the "controller" section?

I can test it though, cause I have a family member with a TrackIR 5, let me go grab it and test it.

Here's the profile I made for ArmA. Keep in mind you may need to adjust the overall sensitivity depending on placement and how far away you are so you may need to tweak it to your own habits.

Also, note that I'm using TIR5 with the active LED clip so you may need to change that option depending if you're using the passive reflector clip/hat or the active LED clip.

I've tried the copy paste thing as you said, but the program doesn't seem to recognize it. I have 64-bit windows 7 if that's any consolation. Can people please post the xml attachment? Thanks!

Hi again,

Since the forums appear to be governed with an iron fist can people from this thread and only from this thread post a link to a file attachment for their profile that they use in Arma 2? Make sure you post only in this thread or you'll get 'warned'! Sheesh.

PS - I hope I don't break any more rules by making a second post in a thread in some set amount of time.

It's not a problem with ArmA as far as I can tell but the profiler. The light that comes on that says "Hey, you're playing rFactor. I detect this exe running!" doesn't come on with arma2oa.exe running, only arma2.exe.

Are you sure you have the TrackIR support enabled (configure controls/controllers/TrackIR) ? It's disabled by default.

I'm using TIR5 with latest software (5.0b) and both release and beta versions of Arrowhead work fine.

It was not working since I had turned it on before but it detects arma2oa.exe now. Curious why it didn't before. Thanks.

Okay, been playing around with settings, profiles etc a few hours and... what a stupid product. Playing in this game engine for almost a decade now, and looking at the trackir for some years but never got around buying it; all I can say is that the Alt-key for moving camera... simply works great and if you ask me... this product was a major dissapointment. (Or maybe rather, I find absolutely ZERO use of it... maybe leaning forward for zooming but... and how often do you do that?)

Possibly a few cases when landing a helicopter I could find this usefull, but on the other hand been doing it since OFP so adding this "new dimension" rather gives me a headache then improving the experience.

First, if you are only playing in 3rd person you dont really need it.

Second, I will focus on responding to the infantry part since most people could give you info on why its good for flying.

If you play on a server that forces people to use first person its actually very useful. The thing is, at least for infantry, is that you have to re teach yourself to move your head independently of the gun. In 99% of other games you move both at the same time... It takes a while to get used to, but once you do, it becomes natural and you will most probably move your head without thinking about it in none Track ir games.

For example, if you are looking to the left and see something you want your gun to face. You have to look back to the screen towards the right while you move the mouse to the left... Not something you have done in any other fps. Once that becomes natural you will probably miss it in other fps games.

However, for infantry I recommend turning off zoom and lean features in Track Ir5 software.

Well for my money TrackIR is the single most immersive addition to my PC. I can't really understand why you say that Alt-key is good for looking about, but that simply moving your head is not? :D

Oh well.

Fore give me for not posting here before.

I received my TrakIR 5 about a month ago and I F*cking love it.

For ArmAII I'm using Seths FPS profile which may be found over at the Natural Point forums.

It takes a little getting used to, I still forget to move my head when required, now and again :D.

I'm not really a Flight Sim fan, so the only other game I've been playing with the Track IR5 is Dirt2:D. The car goes too fast to look around and when I do, I usually end up in the ditch :yay:

Dirt 2 uses TrackIR as well? Awesome! I just bought it. On sale for $6 on D2D until next Wed - http://www.direct2drive.com/2/8769/product/Buy-DiRT-2-Download

I've had a TrackIR 5 for some time now. Can't live without it. Someone was mentioning that you can use the keys to look around, but why not be able to look around while you are fighting too? You can't do that if you don't have a TrackIR.

There is a downside to TrackIR however...... I find myself trying to look around even when I don't have a TrackIR game! :D

"Alt Key" does not compare to TIR.

Yep, nothing compares to the freedom that TIR gives you beeing able to look, walk and shoot in different directions where with free look you are stationary and limited to looking around only.

I have the same problem. Tring to move the camera with my head instead of the mouse :D

I don't want to miss it ever again.

Sometimes when I'm watching Fraps footage of Arma 2 gameplay, I find myself moving my head around trying to move the view. :D

your not the only one!

not to mention what other have said, about missing it in other games...

I feel like a cripple when trying to play games without it, something is definently missing

I know there have been no posts in this thread for awhile, but I had to post my feelings on the TrackIR 5 I just received a few days ago.

I absolutely love it. This is the one peripheral that has changed the way I play the most. After just a few days I am missing it in other games that don't use it. Whether using on my 22" monitor or on my 50" TV it works perfectly.

Nothing complicated, just plug it in and use was all it took for me. No problems whatsoever... should have bought this a lot sooner.

I do think they could do with some competition as they are hellishly expensive. However I do love mine, the justification I use is it's still cheaper than a triple monitor setup! Just about the only thing I dislike is having to wear either a hat or headphones. I might see if I can get the Pro-clip to attach my glasses...

PS: A link to a good ArmA profile would be good

Got mine about 3 months ago and would not be without it. The pro-clip is so much better that the standard attachment. The only real downside is that there is an extra wire - but it is long enough to not be a problem if you sling it over your back. I have also found the the pro-clip gives much better detection and doesn't 'lose' the sensors at all.

Also I look a completer nerd in a baseball cap (always have)!!

I found a nice smooth profile which seems to work nicely....

It does have one issue though that I need to fix lately - The F keys (F7, F9, F12) need to be remapped. Hard to control large squads with TIR using these keys.

I'm also a great fan of the TrackIR package, only i think the wire to the TrackClipPro is way to short so ive used an USB extension cable to be able to hide it in a cable management clamp i used for my LCD (hose for the pond).

Good thing to see that TOK (TakeOnHeli's) also has support for head-tilting. The first test version was lacking the ability to keep the pilot view in the right place if you used it but im sure they will fix this and also add this feature to Arma3 next year.

Speaking about a triple display setup. I think even for track IR users it will be a great enhancement for the total immersion and I’m looking to add 2 x 19" to my 24" screen once i can spare the bough making an 19 : 24 : 19 + TrackIR = MegaSuperCool Arma2 setup! The only downside is that even my new Nvidia GTX580 will have a hard time keeping up with so many pixels (of eye candy).

It does have one issue though that I need to fix lately - The F keys (F7, F9, F12) need to be remapped. Hard to control large squads with TIR using these keys.

-X

In practice, I only ever need the recenter key (F12) so I disable the others and remap recenter to Pause.

If I had to point out one issue... I have the pro clip and my wireless headphones are now basically wired. But other than that minor complaint this thing is awesome.

Maybe it's time for me to invest in wireless USB hub?
