Avgani 1.5 & Afghan village 1.0

Recommended Posts

Hey Opteryx thx for releasing these great islands. Just wanted to tell you i didn't have any slowdowns in the heart of the city, whether on foot or in a vehicle. Even flying over it in a LBird is pretty smooth. Got a strong PC (Quad@3.3Ghz, 4GB ram) though.

Only thing that catched my eye was the fact that while driving on the main road i could pass over the little sidewalk between both roads on foot, but my Hummveh got stuck.

Apart from that, excellent work - keep it up! :)

superb job on these opteryx,

afgahn village ran fine for me on very high detail, (even 8xAA), everything looks great really love the wall details, they look interesting and are functional too :), textures look great and I really like the colours on both maps, not too desaturated.

flying over avgani got a bit slow at 8xAA, as you'd expect, so I dropped it down to medium and it ran fine, I was alone on both maps though so ill have to try out some missions to really see how it runs with units in there too.

i7 920

3g ram

9800 gt

p.s. i didnt really go around every asset and check for collision holes, but just as an idea why people could be experiencing clipping through walls, might be that collision geo isnt streaming in fast enough or blowing that memory pool, if they're using lower end systems. might be wrong, but i've seen things like this happen before with other games.

Arma works really strange....you may get better performance when shader & texture settings are @ high / very high than set to low/normal. Seems like sometimes it is harder for the system to downgrade the quality probly due to maps in the models.

It is more about GPU vs CPU processing for the respective setting.

Not sure if this is the case for every setting....well "shadow settings" confirmed by Suma though.

Afghan Village looks friggin amazing now with the better coloured wheatfields and whatever is tweaked. Also, the performance for me on this map is much better than before. Same missions on the updated let me play with much longer VD and objects/textures. Amazing job.

Opteryx, terrific maps, thanks for all your work.

I have run into one issue with Avgani. AI on foot won't cross over the centre divider on the main road. If you order them from one side to the other they just stay in place, or, if they are near the end they run all the way down to where it becomes non divided, cross and then come back again.

I suppose an easy fix would be to put some breaks in the pavement down the middle, it would also make sense for cars turning out of the perpendicular streets.

Once again thanks for what is obviously many hundreds of hours work.

Scott

I'm getting some "can't find file oxplants\****.p3d" errors. I can still play the map just fine, but the errors are annoying. I was under the impression that the p3d-files only were for those that wanted to take a look at them, they shouldn't be loaded by the map itself (since their included in the pbo's already), am I right?

I didn't experience this before I recently redownloaded/reinstalled the map because I thought I had some problems with it when joining a server (which turns out I didn't, btw).

edit: Nevermind, I don't seem to get those anymore.
