BLSmith2112 0 Posted September 8, 2008 I know the game is WIP, but I hope yall over at BIS change the street textures before the games launch. The streets are obviously taken straight from Armed Assault 1, and I was hoping for an experience on Arma2 that doesn't exactly feel the same as the first one. Even if the game is WIP, the road textures (from what I have seen) are seamless at intersections and road merges, so unless BIS has been tweaking the roads and their textures thus far... I at least hope the roads are temporary.
Deadfast 43 Posted September 8, 2008 Why fix it if it ain't broken? I see nothing wrong with ArmA's roads?
oldbear 390 Posted September 9, 2008 I will like to have small ditches along some roads ... a nice place to get flat on my belly, without being seen, and have some shelter during a firefight.
tnashem 0 Posted September 9, 2008 Why fix it if it ain't broken?I see nothing wrong with ArmA's roads? For one, every time you drive over the road a dust storm kicks up blinding the people driving behind you, worst of all you're on clean pavement! If you don't see something wrong there, you need help my friend...

mr_centipede 31 Posted September 10, 2008 I also dont see anything wrong with the road textures... All looked fine by me
Praelium 0 Posted September 10, 2008 Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with the roads either, though I think it could use more detail, like potholes, skidmarks, run overed squirrels like in True Crime . They don't need to be 3D, I would be fine with just decals.
BLSmith2112 0 Posted September 10, 2008 Well all this talk about a revitalized & the true successor of OFP... I just don't want to feel like its just rehashed Arma1 all over again for my $. If the game were, say for example: Armed Assault Resistance (expansion), then using the same resources makes sense. In my view however, an entirely new game (In this case: 2.0), the new game shouldn't just rehash old textures and call it Arma2.
Lester 0 Posted September 10, 2008 Of cause there are 1 1/2 ! Roadsets seems to be the old "OFP Quality" and should be exchanged, but the most of the roadtextures are imho excelent
Commando84 0 Posted September 10, 2008 ditches on the sides of the roads have nothing to do with textures, its the terrain road ditches wasn't possible in earlier games due to the A.i. But now in Arma 2 with micro a.i maybe it will be possible to have a.i work on smaller spaces. Mm but it could be a design thing too, maybe they don't want ditches due to the risc of actually driving down into one and getting stuck with your car

I think I've heard that ArmA2 can handle higher resolution terrain, but it's probably something like 5m cells, so I doubt really well made ditches/trenches will be possible. SaBrE_UK 0 Posted September 10, 2008 That doesn't sound good. I think trenches and small but significant variations in terrain are a big part of the battlefield. Still, the rest of the game might make up for this minor problem.
oldbear 390 Posted September 12, 2008 Having played Alex Sworn's La Samula island, I can tell that in ArmA we can get broken terrain features usable as ditches and hollows More, having played FDF Mod for a while, with OFP of course  on the desert island of Al-Maldajah, I can tell there was a nice road "item" you can have a look at here, I don't know how it was done, but the effect was great. And I will not speak about the trenches system also in FDF for the topic is about roads.
MBot 0 Posted September 12, 2008 Agreed, ditches next to roads and generally much more "micro-terrain" that provides cover would be important features. After all, the new micro-AI will need a place to find cover
sparks50 0 Posted September 12, 2008 One thing that has annoyed me a bit that could fit under this title is how the map texture for roads are sorta green-ish, while roads are standard tarmac colour. This makes it sort of ugly when you look at roads at such a distance that objects such as tarmac texture isnt shown anymore and the road turns ugly.
