Just thinking, as you're dualsocket:

have you tried binding the arma process to 1 CPU (or simply 1 core) with TaskManager?

Might be a problem where the process swaps between the different physical cpu's (which might be a bigger problem than switching on the same CPU, between different cores because they are able to share cache)?

Have you tried "Very High" yet? In the past for me this ran sometimes better smile_o.gif

I've never used WS or Server boards for gaming, one would guess it should be able to handle the games too... The time of WS / Server boards without AGP / PCIe are long gone smile_o.gif

(Just noticed it's a skull-trail system; neat! notworthy.gif )

In your BIOs you have a setting called " Snoop Filter" , disable it If you cant then you have to upgrade your bios. Big performance sucker there. Also there is a Hardware prefetch you can disable too. IF you have the latest BIOs.

in the bios it is :"SF Bypass" to "enabled" to disable the filter.

Today I talked with my dealer and he is as surprised as me.

He told me to run Cinebench and report him the records...I couldnt even run it, instead I ran 3DMark and it gave me 7.150 over 24.400 pts for the GPU. I think I´m bringing it to him tomorrow...It also performs crappy in LOMAC (low fps and buggy clouds). I will let this in his hands...whether they fix or im changing GPU...for good.

My dealer told me that task manager should recognize 8 cores on task manger...as he is also surprised for the low score on CPU on 3Dmark....

On my task manager it only recognizes 4 cores.....does that answer you sickboy? crazy_o.gif

Hey, it does partially; The fact that only 1 cpu (4 cores) shows up, probably means that the problem isnt related to ArmA switching between the different cpu's.

Locking it on 1 core still might help, but I have a quad-core aswell, and never had to, esp not under Vista.

The fact that only 1 quad-core (4 cores) show up for you is because you are using Vista Home. Which only supports 1 physical cpu and thus only 4 cores in your system smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]While all editions of Windows Vista can support multiple core CPUs, only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors.

In any case, I think the proper Vista Edition, Bios Upgraded, Bios Settings Tweaked (like a few ppl have given tips in here), and chipset drivers up2date, should get you pretty much under way again.

skulltrail this

Bring out the big guns... Tho they are not gaming, and no Arma, they do push the board/cpus. Also on Asus own forum on the MB, there is the low performance.

He started with XP, but tried Vista, but maybe the wrong version for his dual CPUs. My money is on the bios settings.

The computer has 2 OS...1 Vista Home 32 and 1 XP 64...I use Vista 32 for gaming and stuff and the XP 64 for professional use (3D). It is supposed that it should be able to run like like a hurricane on both. It´s on my dealer´s hand now...they told me that its likely that I will have news from them by friday.

My dealer is especilist on 3D rigs. My Dealer

If you wanna go x64, I would go Vista x64; Better, more stable and better performing and afaik better supported than XP x64 smile_o.gif

Runs like a dream for me. I do both, Server 2008 x64 (Hyper-V) aswell as Vista x64 SP1 Ultimate.

Anyway, Goodluck smile_o.gif Hope the dealers come up with something.

I confirm the VistaX64 optimism: runs perfectly fine over here too with 6GB of ram.

Not for me, 0 bios update relative to the southbridge, pci-e management or my problem :/

The bios updates are for the CPU, or arma works really good with a GeForce 8800GTS

well....it still doesnt perform all the good I expected...but I think I need to tweak the graphics to find out whats the fps killer and what is no problem whatever the detail.

We shall see in the next weeks.  xmas_o.gif

-----------------------------------------------

I´m trying to set maxmem=2048 on the quicklaunch and it wont let me change it....any clue?

Also...what do you people recommend me to put in the arma.cfg in my case?

Thxs in advance.

My own experience:

[*] Leave MaxMem on auto,  or only limit it to 512 incase of problems

[*] Delete arma.cfg and let it automaticly generate, then set settings in the game

[*] Put everything on very high, and only antialiasing on low or normal

[*] Try viewdistance 3500 and work your way up

All other tuning is imho just silly bullshit... until proven otherwise of course smile_o.gif

Btw, you don't need 100 fps in arma, and you certainly dont need 150 or 200 or whatever. Having an FPS in ArmA of between 25 - 50 is usually more than enough to have a proper and nice game.

Buying a big rig to "Score high" on ArmA, is usually a fools errand, at least to my experience.

Recommendation: Download Kegetys his vegetation fix, this will increase fps in most situations...  There are some bugs in ArmA that make the rendering of bushes and stuff not working correctly and lag.

Go grab some QX9775's and why would you want a dual-socket board if its just for gaming. A waste of money it is just like if you got the Intel Skulltrail. I also cannot believe you don't have patience to wait for the 4870 X2 or the GTX 280 and one big major flaw is the DDR2 FB-DIMM memory. Just useless and horrible.
