whisper 0 Posted May 22, 2008 But, compare to OFP, BI has still a long way to go, and i hope ARMA2 will have a recoil simulation like in the good old days of OFP. I certainly don't hope, that would be a huge step back. OFP recoils were very, very basic, only vertical movement and the gun was always going back exactly the center like there had been no recoil. ArmA simulation is really superior in this area.

MehMan 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Recoil discussion is pretty moot as it wildly depends on the shooter rather than the weapon.

Col. Faulkner 0 Posted May 24, 2008 New recoils in 1.14:http://rapidshare.de/files/39502504/ArmA_1.14_Recoils.rar.html Q11, we need you! Ye gods, that AK recoil is laughable. It certainly doesn't look like that in my extensive <s>collection of "hot babes in bikinis with guns" videos</s> experience of shooting hundreds of cool guns and stuff. You don't need Q11 (although his work is appreciated), you can tweak the recoil values yourself (welcome to an exercise in extreme tediousness).

Col. Faulkner 0 Posted May 24, 2008 The improvements on recoil were right.Who thinks, modern rifles have a recoil like WW2 weapons is wrong. But, compare to OFP, BI has still a long way to go, and i hope ARMA2 will have a recoil simulation like in the good old days of OFP. youtube clip ^^ I largely agree with this. I'm currently trying to make a decent recoil for an addon model of a rifle that I once had extensive experience firing (had a crossed rifles badge for it, no less, as a stupid cadet, and used to train young shavers on it later as a reg.). I'm finding it hard to avoid the feeling that the damn thing is leaping at your face, when in reality it would push your right shoulder strongly backwards and avoid that impression. I've also noticed that the recoil mechanism includes a random element, so the recoil is slightly variable. Recoil is, however, a very physical thing (first time I fired the .303" Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk 1 as a spotty cadet I got horrendous bruises off the bitch - an experience repeated when introduced later to the SLR - until I got used to it). Felt recoil is not really much of a visual thing (which is all there is in a video game) so I've come to the conclusion that it's not much worth sweating over. So long as you give an honest impression of how a weapon behaves (eg. this rifle kicks like f**k, or this rifle has a girly recoil or this machine gun is rock-steady on its bipod but rattles back and forth) then you're making good use of the restricted medium..
