miles teg 1 Posted March 1, 2008 The Lost Brothers is Proud to Present:   The Syrian Army Pack 1.2 This pack is made up units based on customized versions of SLA units with some custom gear from our OFP mod added to them.  Before anyone says it, in real life the Syrian Army DOES use AK-74's.  They are one of the few non-Russian countries to use them. We used a slightly modified SLA cammo for the woodland cammo and our Syrian lizard skin cammo as we had from our OFP Syrian units.  For vehicles, only the T-72 is reskinned.  The rest are unmarked BIS SLA units that look very much like Syrian olive green colors (which some Syrian units have depending on unit).  Eventually I will do custom teture modifications on all of the vehicles and will also make a version of the T-72 with ERA boxes and increased armor values. Also if anyone has any info or URL's to specific Syrian infantry units or types of infantry/SF units, we can try to simulate those. Units to be found under OPFOR include: Syrian Infantry (woodland cammo): 1. Squad leader 2. RPG gunner 3. Machine Gunner 4. Medic 5. AA specialist 6. sniper 7. tank crew 8. pilot Syrian Infantry (Lizard Cammo) 1. Squad leader 2. RPG gunner 3. Machine Gunner 4. Medic 5. AA specialist 6. sniper Syrian Commandos (Woodland) 1. Squad Leader 2. Operator 3. Operator (covert) 4. Marksman Syrian Commandos (Lizard cammo) 1. Squad Leader 2. Operator 3. Operator (covert) 4. Marksman Vehicles: 1. T-72 2. BMP-2 3. BDRM-2 4. URAL 5. MI-17 HIP 6. UAZ (MG) Credits: 1. Arab faces by Jewish Freak but based on BIS faces. 2. Base Models by BIS. 3. Covert skimask by Vipersheart edited by Miles Teg<GD>. 4. Kuffiyah by Newie edited by Miles Teg<GD>. 5. Custom textures on T-72-  Miles Teg<GD>. 6. cpp.config editing done by Miles Teg<GD> and Jewish Freak. 7. All vehicle models and textures by BIS. 8. Texture modifications and lizard skin texture by Miles Teg<GD> Known Errors: There is a skeleton inherit error for the T-72 that we need help fixing.  When you get this bug, just restart the mission again and it will work fine. If anyone can  explain how to fix it, please let us know because once that is fixed I will start customizing all the other vehicles with custom paint jobs. fitzee 7 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi. Thanks for new units. Will you be releasing update with wound textures?
miles teg 1 Posted March 1, 2008 We would DEFINITELY be interested in some better faces as our current ones are just tanned BIS faces and thus temporary until someone makes a professional quality Arab face pack (or a general face pack with the addition of some good Arab faces). Â In that pic that you show, yeah that is most common camoflage used by the Syrian Army. Â Notice how similar it is to the BIS SLA woodland cammo? Â That was lucky for us. Â Â The lizard cammo is rarely used today, (perhaps reserve units) but it is there as more of a historical texture for those who may want to recreate historic battles. Â Plus it is just so cool looking that we had to throw it in. Â In addition Hezbollah uses it on some of their units so we will use the textures again later. Â If someone find us info on a definitive date that the lizard cammo was stopped in general usage by the Syrian Army we will relabel the lizard cammo guys as (80's) or somethng like that. Â To Talc: An Israeli pack was released already (actually several versions) if you want to get started making missions, however an updated pack will be coming as soon as we get an APC working. Â That one will include the Merkava Mk4 and an updated CH-53. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
miles teg 1 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi. Thanks for new units. Will you be releasing update with wound textures? I'll be honest.... I don't know how to implement wound textures. I need to find a good tutorial on that and how it works. Making the textures is not a problem (bloody bullet holes, blood spatters, etc...) but I just gotta figure out how to config them. We have to do the same for our IDF units as well. So yeah if I figure that stuff out it'll be in a future update. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Dramboi 0 Posted March 1, 2008 BTW if u ll combine those two mods together it would be much easier to use them on the Hamal game server
miles teg 1 Posted March 1, 2008 Which two mods? LoBo and which other one? I'm only aware of one other addon maker making Middle East addons. I didn't know there was another mod doing Middle East stuff in ArmA. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
manzilla 1 Posted March 1, 2008 Possibly he means integrating your Syrian + IDF into one Mod. Besides that I'm not sure which two he means. Apologies for not minding my own business. Great work by the way. Another great release from LoBo. Thanks
milobr 0 Posted March 1, 2008 I just don't like the fact that they're... red. Everything else is alright.
miles teg 1 Posted March 2, 2008 Red? You mean OPFOR? That is because BIS made the US BLUFOR and traditionally any nation allied against the US was considered an OPFOR nation (which includes Syria). Likeiwse Israel is a an ally of the US and so it is classified as BLUFOR. Its not a big deal getting them to switch sides. You just group them to a BLUFOR (West) leader and give that leader's probablity of appearance 0% on the mission editor. But its up to you and othe rmission makers to decide what sort of mission they will make with them. If you want you can have them attacking the RACS forces and assisting the SLA to bring Shariat law governance to Sahrani. At any rate, these Syrians and the IDF stuff are both part of the Lost Brothers Mod. We didn't lump them all together because 1. The IDF update isn't ready yet (it needs an APC) and 2. because the file size would be too big and we prefer to keep the packs smaller this time in ArmA. For that reason, these guys work independently of the IDF stuff and other addons we're working on (including Hamas units). This allows mission makers to download just the Syrian stuff if they, for example, want to make a US vs. Syria mission. This pack will be updated with ERA equipped T-72's, and more custom textures and units. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
milobr 0 Posted March 2, 2008 Noooo! Haha. What I ment is their skin, it's very red-ish.
miles teg 1 Posted March 2, 2008 Cuz they're played by Native American actors. (ouch ok that was a bit racist). Nah seriously I didn't do the faces. But yeah I agree, they are a bit too redish. In the update I'll see what I can do about fixing them to make 'em more brown and less red. Sometimes things look a bit different in-game then they do in O2/bulldozer. miles teg 1 Posted March 2, 2008 Syria is Both Iseria and USA's  enimyIt should be in the east But Egypt is close to USA now should it be placed in resistence?  We haven't made any Egyptian units yet for ArmA, but if we do, they will probably remain in the East simply because they are Israel's #1 military threat (and ancient nemesis) right now as they have the largest modern Arab force in the Middle East at the moment to include M1A1/A2 tanks (with depleted uranium armor and ammunition), Apache gunships, F-16C fighters, Mirage 2000's, etc... etc... in very large numbers unlike the smaller modern forces of countries like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, etc... Egypt is also politically volatile so a coup could very easily happen with a radical shift in government policies. That is one reason they buy not only American military equipment but also alot of European equipment and vehicles in case of a military embargo. The also produce alot of the American equipment under license to include the M1A1 tanks which they're upgrading to M1A2 standards. Hi-tech components are made in the US but those can be rapidly substituted for European components in most cases. At any rate, it will be awhile before we start making Egyptian forces in ArmA. We really need more team members in our mod team to do a good job of that. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
1in1class 0 Posted March 3, 2008 This pack looks vary nice but the units are all BIS defult units gear wise. What i mean is that there gear and all are not right they got the SLA gear and not there own kind of gear could you add better gear to them like you did in OFP?
manzilla 1 Posted March 3, 2008 Read thru the post cause I believe that has been discussed.
1in1class 0 Posted March 3, 2008 Read thru the post cause I believe that has been discussed. All that has been discussed was the units camouflage and face text nothing about the gear that they wear It would be vary nice to see them in some of its own gear instade of the BIS SLA gear The gear that was added to them in OFP was vary nice.
miles teg 1 Posted March 3, 2008 Actually the gear that was added to the Syrians in OFP was just stuff ripped from our Egyptians. We did add some custom gear to our Syrians (kuffiyah on sniper, masks and goggles on commandos, etc...). The rest of the gear is in fact pretty much accurate as what the Syrian Army actually uses. The ammo harness, canteen, shovel, and sleeping/prayer mat roll, etc... all look fairly typical of Syrian troops which is why I commented that it looked like BIS may have originally intended the SLA to infact be the Syrian Army as even their cammoflage is almost identical. The only thing not typical is the body armor which most Syrian troops don't use. They do however wear a similar colored vest that looks more like a photographer's vest. Also there may be a new effort to equip more of their soldiers with body armor so this may change. At any rate, one thing we are going to update is removing the backpacks on the commandos (that look like Western MOLLE gear) and replacing them with more typical Soviet era backpacks. So alot of the gear that you saw in OFP we will import over to ArmA, but its not a simple cut and paste job. Alot of the gear has to grouiped with the proper skeleton animation section otherwise you end up with the stuff handing down at their feet or doing other wierd things. But at any rate, backpacks will come first followed by a few other pieces of gear that may be appropriate. I'm also looking for a good hemet net texture and then I have to figure out the best way to apply it (directly to the helmet or maybe as a semi-transparent cover). Aside from that I'm also trying to do more research on the Syrian army to get a better idea of actual units and the range of weaponry. One big item used now by the Syrians is the RPG-7VR (tandem-warhead) and the massive RPG-29 Vampire (also tandem warhead). But we need to get permission to convert those from OFP although the RPG-7VR warhead I can probably modify myself. We're also hoping that RHS will import their T-55 tanks for general usage by the community as that is probably the #1 most widely used tank in the world and one that I know the Syrians still use in large numbers.
