Balschoiw 0 Posted January 20, 2008 With 1.09 patch my Arma started to act weird. I just removed the complete Arma from my harddrive, renamed the user-folders, downloaded the 1.05 patch again as I didn´t have it on my HD anymore (the download of the 1.05 patch alone took ~ 40 hours), reinstalled the program, patched it up to 1.09 only to experience the same weirds behaviour again. When I start Arma, the checkboxes come up and dissapear. Then there is nothing happening for about 2 minutes. No joke. In task manager I see that Arma.exe is running and uses about 30MB space but there is nothing happening onscreen. After 2 or more minutes the loading screen comes up finally and Arma loads. I also found that renaming the profiles in "My data" doesn´t do much for Arma. It simply creates new folders and copies over the content from the renamed folders. Is anyone else experiencing that ? Edit; How can I totally remove everything Arma-related from my computer Even if I remove my userfolders, userdata, etc it still greets me with my username when I start Arma. This is insane. I want to do a totally fresh install of Arma without any registry remains or any userdate that have been saved before.
Heatseeker 0 Posted January 20, 2008 With 1.09b you can still launch 1.08 thru the apropriate exe. Does it happen with 1.08 too? Never heard of this..
binkster 0 Posted January 20, 2008 Nope but ive had slow load times untill I used Ultimate Defrag and put ArmA on outer rim of HD. Â Sounds like your pc, not ArmA.
mr burns 133 Posted January 20, 2008 Have you tried adding commandline paramters?<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">-nosplash -profiles=x:\ArmA\Profiles -world=empty This´ll load ArmA the quickest way possible w/o any islands in cache. Also 1.09 get´s rid of copy protection (noCd *yay*), so the checkboxes at start should´nt be a problem. Changing the profile path may help bypassing windows partition errors. That way you can at least find out if ArmA or your OS is horribly f...ed
Balschoiw 0 Posted January 20, 2008 Quote[/b] ] Does it happen with 1.08 too? Yes. Never happened before. Once I updated to 1.09 the problem arose. Since then even a total reinstall didn´t fix it. Quote[/b] ]Nope but ive had slow load times untill I used Ultimate Defrag and put ArmA on outer rim of HD. Sounds like your pc, not ArmA. I´m having O&O Defrag installed and it keeps the drives defragged at all times automatically once per week. The PC doesn´t have any issues with all the other games and programs I have installed and running. I never had this problem with Arma before, only when I installed 1.09 it began. Edit: Uninstalled Arma, removed every profile I could find anywhere on my harddrives, ran a registry cleaning, rebooted, again ran a registry cleaning. Installed Arma 1.00 and i get the 2 minute lag again. This is incredible !!! Although I have cleaned EVERYTHING Arma related from my comp it still greets me with my username in Arma. I´m about to give up and throw it into the trash.
ArmaVidz 0 Posted January 20, 2008 You're profile 'inside' Arma shouldn't have the same settings. The profile 'name' will always be the same because when ARMA creates your ARMA profile, it uses the Windows Profile Name (%systemdrive%\documents and settings\%username%). If you have the same settings inside Arma i.e.: change controls, button assignments etc. then that's a different story and Arma is indeed retaining your ARMA profile settings. If you go to %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents\ArmA you should have deleted the file "YourNameBals.ARMAPROFILE The YourNameBals.ARMAPROFILE is the file which contains all your settings and username that ARMA created. If you deleted - all your personalized settings go buh-bye
Rexxenexx 0 Posted January 20, 2008 Man that sounds like my other computer. If you restart the computer everything loads fast the first time. The second time you try it takes forever to finally load. Thats how my other comp. used to do it.
jasono 0 Posted January 21, 2008 My friend had an issue where it took ages for ArmA to start. Vista's UAC was doing something with it we found out (was some check or something) If you use Vista it might be worth trying with UAC disabled, at least for a little bit anyway. W0lle 1052 Posted January 21, 2008 Note that if you use another profile then your windows username, the profile is stored in: documents and settings\username\my documents\arma other profiles If you're using Vista, the path is different but the folder name remains the same. Don't wanna scare you but maybe check the harddisk for defective sectors. A similiar problem (not with Arma) I had a few months back as my almost brandnew harddisk died. Balschoiw 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Installed Arma on a different hd, still the same issue. I don´t know what the comp is waiting for when starting Arma, There is almost no CPU load, the memory consumption is at 30 MB for Arma and no HD activity. It looks like it´s checking or waiting for something. OS is WinXP SP2. I haven´t installed any driver updates or anything like that. My next step will be to remove DirectX and reinstall it. It´s really odd as the issue came exactly with patch 1.09 and now even 1.00 Arma has this 2 minutes when I start it. So either there is an issue with the copy-protection update or any of the changed libraries causes it.
sickboy 13 Posted January 21, 2008 Checked your System and Application log? Windows Eventviewer (right click my computer, manage, eventviewer) Removing/Reinstalling DX will not help you. Heck, iirc you can not even remove it, just repair/upgrade it. v1.09 has no copy protection at this time, as such I dont think copyprotection/libraries have anything to do with it. When uninstalling, did you also remove the whole ArmA folder from the harddrive? Many uninstallations only remove a part and not everything. Try: Move: [*] My Documents\ArmA [*] My Documents\ArmA Other Profiles [*] Documents and Settings\your_login_name\local settings\application data\ArmA away to other folders Try to start game again, check Documents and Settings\your_login_name\local settings\application data\ArmA\ArmA.rpt for possible messages/errors Try Start, Run, chkdsk /f /r C: (and execute once for every other harddrive you have installed). Should search, report, fix/repair problems with drive. Try starting the game with -dsound parameter, if there is no delay in gaming, it might mean your OpenAL dll's are wrong version or otherwise problematic, try searching newer soundcard drivers and latest OpenAL (google) Have you updated/installed any new virtual cd/dvd application of somesorts? For the lagging etc, I guess you already tried fidling around with maxmem? @JasonO: Just starting the game with right mouse click and "Run as Administrator" should just be enough? @binkster: Quote[/b] ]Nope but ive had slow load times untill I used Ultimate Defrag and put ArmA on outer rim of HDI guess you mean "inner". A harddrive writes from outside to inside, so the representation in defragment programs is 'upside down', the end is actually the inner/beginning
Balschoiw 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Sickboy you´re my hero of the day. I tried to run Arma with the -dsound parameter and it immedeately started. The sound is wrecked though. I´m going to find new OpenAL version and hope this fixes it. My RPT look like this btw: Quote[/b] ]======================================================================= D:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\beta\arma.exe ===================================================================== Exe version: Mon Jan 21 00:54:11 2008 Updating base class ->Default, by ca\anims\characters\config.bin/CfgMovesBasic/DefaultDie/ Updating base class ->Default, by ca\anims\characters\config.bin/CfgMovesMaleSdr/States/Crew/ Applying controller scheme Default Applying controller scheme Default ===================================================================== == D:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\beta\arma.exe ===================================================================== Exe version: Mon Jan 21 00:54:11 2008 Updating base class ->Default, by ca\anims\characters\config.bin/CfgMovesBasic/DefaultDie/ Updating base class ->Default, by ca\anims\characters\config.bin/CfgMovesMaleSdr/States/Crew/ Applying controller scheme Default ===================================================================== == D:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\beta\arma.exe ===================================================================== Exe version: Mon Jan 21 00:54:11 2008 Updating base class ->Default, by ca\anims\characters\config.bin/CfgMovesBasic/DefaultDie/ Updating base class ->Default, by ca\anims\characters\config.bin/CfgMovesMaleSdr/States/Crew/ Applying controller scheme Default Applying controller scheme Default No more slot to add connection at De61 (6952.9,8228.9) No more slot to add connection at Fh71 (11466.8,6127.8) No more slot to add connection at Fi71 (11613.7,6208.8) No more slot to add connection at Gh57 (13524.3,8896.8) No more slot to add connection at Hc39 (14473.8,12501.8) Item should be already created I guess the last entries are because of the -dsound startup. Edit: Just donwloaded the latest OpenAl drivers and installed them. No luck so far. Now I´m downloading the latest X-Fi drivers and will uninstall/reinstall the soundcard. sickboy 13 Posted January 21, 2008 Glad to be of help mate. And kick ass picture haha The RPT contains no useful information in this case. Please let me know what data/time and version are the: wrap_oal.dll and openal32.dll (located in your Windows\System32 folder) You can substract the data by checking the properties of the file. Version numbers are somewhere on one of the pages. v1.09 updates OpenAL, so a downgrade might be necessary. If you like, I can send you the OAL dll's from my installation that at least work for me and my X-Fi. Afaik, OpenAL operation depends on: - Soundcard Drivers - OpenAL Libraries - Game All 3 must work properly together. It is possible that some drivers are incompatible with some of the OpenAL libraries. Latest drivers, oal libs and game patch could result in Climax If you are running Vista, you could try these drivers: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1775 For XP i have no clue at this time. Balschoiw 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Ok...I´m downloading the latest drivers for my X-Fi and I´m pretty confident this will fix the issue. The thing is...I am sensitive about changing the soundcard driver as it was working pretty good for me, so I didn´t see the need to upgrade it. Especially with creative products you have to be carefull. Anyway, for me it makes sense now. 1.09 patch updated OpenAl and my soundcard was/is still using old OpenAl. That has to be the reason why there was that time-delay instantly after installing 1.09 patch. *rant on* I am really getting sick of downloading patches with my crappy connection with 8kb/s down"stream". The Arma 1.05 patch took me the whole weekend and this soundcard drivers will take me another 2 hours. I just wished developers would be more wary about filesizes and economic packaging when producing patches and drivers. It´s a real mess to download that big packages with a slow internet connection. And before you ask: No, I don´t have the chance to get a better connection here. No cable, no wireless, no antenna, no satellite. I´m practically living in a bunker...internet wise... *rant off* Anyway. I´ll report back tomorrow...if the download isn´t corrupt...

sickboy 13 Posted January 22, 2008 Thank you very much !NP!Im using the same OpenAL version on my System, altough Vista, and the latest Vista X-fi drivers: 2.15.0004 driver. You could try removing both OpenAL dll's and install the OpenAL from your ArmA DVD. I think there have been 2 updates since. The one you have currently installed and 1 in between. I'll look if I can find that release somewhere. The drivers you are using are the: 2.09.0007 release, these are from 30 october 2006. Current Drivers, altough only Beta, are at this time: 2.14.0001 They are from 9 january 2008. Even though it says Beta, my best bet are on those. Altough Dutch link, it contains also English readme part!: http://core.tweakers.net/meuktra....ta.html otherwise direct link: http://ccftp.creative.com/manuald....001.exe Im sorry for the download though... another 38.43mb
Balschoiw 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Downloaded and installed new X-Fi driver. No change. Removed 2 files from system 32 and replaced them with openAL files from Arma DVD. Works like a charm. I can´t understand why my soundcard doesn´t work with latest 1.09 OpenAl update, but that´s what it wasted for me. I´m checking wich update had the more recent OpenAL version coming with it as it also worked for me and will install those. Apparently X-Fi under Windows XP doesn´t like 1.09 OpenAL files. At least that´s how it is with my card.
binkster 0 Posted January 23, 2008 @sickboy Quote[/b] ]@binkster: Quote  Nope but ive had slow load times untill I used Ultimate Defrag and put ArmA on outer rim of HD I guess you mean "inner". A harddrive writes from outside to inside, so the representation in defragment programs is 'upside down', the end is actually the inner/beginning I just had ultimate defrag place arma on outer rim cause it was mixed with everything.  I had set it to write it separate from everything else. I dont think it really matters inner/outer I think the best performance was just getting it away from everything else in HD  It made a complete difference in load times as well as switching map screen.  But in 109 the slow switching map screen has been fixed anyways. Glad yall fixed the problem
sickboy 13 Posted January 23, 2008 @Binkster: No worries. I guess I was just in one of those moods :P @Balschiow: Happy to read you solved it. Why it doesn't want to work properly with the later OpenAL libs is a mystery to me aswell. You would say more ppl would have these problems as many XP'ers got X-fi's... In a future update the OpenAL probably gets updated again, but now you know the cause and workaround to the weird issues surrounding it
