ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Recommended Posts

lol, okay. Let's call a truce shall we. pistols.gif

I vented my anger at BIS and hopefully we will have a patch in this decade. I would feel more comfortable knowing that they weren't busy working on a sequel already sad_o.gif

They started making "ArmA 2" aka "Game 2" before ArmA was even thought of, and ArmA took longer as they decided to put some of the extra Game 2 things into it (like the improved engine build). BIS have always stated it as more of a filler than a real sequel, ArmA 2 will be the true sequel to OFP. ArmA 1 was more of an OFP 1.5, based on OFP concepts, which is why some things aren't in line with the OFP "experience".

If they released the patch now unfinished, people will whine, if they take longer, people will whine. Whatever happens people will whine, they can't win.

Anyway, I don't understand half the arguments here about OFP being "better" than ArmA. OFP seems far more clunky and unpolished than ArmA after going back to try it again for nostalga. The control system in ArmA is far more intuitive, more responsive (most of the time) and much easier to use. You don't realise just how useful double tapping to sprint and so on really is untill you go back to the old way where you couldn't do it, same with tapping right mouse button to bring up the sights. The only thing OFP really beats ArmA on is number of mods/addons made for it. It seems that people are just too lazy and want BIS to make all their dream content for them these days, whereas in the OFP world we let BIS do the technical stuff and we made the content WE wanted.

+1! True, every word.

I agree with most of what you have written, however, until they get the AI problems and damage model fixed, OFP remains a more complete product. These are game breaking problems in my  (and many others) opinions.

Yes, the controls are better in ArmA and it does look better - however, I primarily want a game to 'play' better.

Good graphics should be a bonus, not one of the main reasons for me to buy a game.

Unfortunately, everyone concentrates on looks when they see reviews etc (and devs/publishers know this or they wouldn't re-touch screenshots). Mind you, theres not much else you can do until you get your hands on a demo.

It also has a lot to do with what type of game you play - CTI, CTF, Coop etc. Some work a lot better than others - Coop plays better than CTI at present.

We need those patches (and better PR and information) from BIS. smile_o.gif

Hi all

As I said on the first page of this thread: The underlying problem is the US economy. The US economy is overloaded with debt mostly created by its government.

This means that US business cannot get credit. sad_o.gif

Sadly walker

Repeat after me: Business loans are not subprime mortgages.

If you are going to dole out opinions on the economy, it would help if you understood what your are talking about instead of parroting talking points.

Individual business fail during the best of times.  Unless you know something specific about the decisions upper level management made regarding Atari, all you are doing is repeat the same wild-ass guess.

If there were a fundamental economic weakness, it would not be just Atari.

Occams razor tells us that this is most proabally some bad past business decisions coming home to roost.

As long as it's not EA or Ubi we'll be safe!

Perhaps, but could we get EA's VOIP system on lease? Voip on BF2 is the bees knees.

I live in the US and walker is correct, the economy is getting worse.

I recently closed my Autobodyshop..people just don't have money, hard to run a business.I was doing work too cheap ,working 100+ hours a week just to get by.Getting burglarized didn't help matters either.

In the past years things like: Fuel, Milk, Rent,Real Estate has doubled in price but wages haven't.

Altho it is easy to purchase a new car nowadays, they are slightly cheaper and loans are easy and low interest, which again hurts the used car market.

Prices of video games hasn't changed in a while and that doesn't help them for sure.

Offtopic:

And yet everybody is trying to convince you that there's only a 2% inflation while everything around you has had a 10% price increase.

Whomever said that hackers are no longer a problem was greatly mistaken!! Every single night I have played this week someone has shown up and ruined hours of gameplay.

Come on BIS, fix this HUGE security hole already! Do you really expect us to trust you enough to invest in Arma 2?
