medieval mod?

Well this is an idea , i know arma handle projectiles quite.. okay, but how could we do stuffs like swordfighting, bows, crossbow, and trebuchets?

thanks nick but isn't this more like a strategy game?

I was thinking more in the lines of Armed assault but set in the middle age (Britain in 5th - 6th century).

Does Arma offer other valid way to inflict damages than the use of projectiles?

Since the inflicted dmg are a factor of the velocity of the ammunition , how could it be applied to swords , halberds, etc...

There was 1 swordfighting mod for OFP which was pretty fun, you could run and swing your sword at the same time (Hiddenselection or something while hiding your 'real arms' when you 'fired' your sword). It was even AI compitable (Kinda buggy though).

However you couldnt drop your sword and take another weapon as the sword was part of the soldiermodel.

I cant remember the name of the guy who made it, Phil.... something.

Just shoot invisible, very short range bullets. wink_o.gif

anybody ever played the game dark messiah its got a fantastic sword fighting system in it - if somthing like this could be put in arma it would be really great.

you block parry and do power strikes its great fun.

If you have OFP, i suggest you search ofp.info for Philcommando and download his sword addon stuff. wink_o.gif

yeah i know dunno why i said it really :-)

I would love it tho being able to fight hand to hand combat agains t thousands of troops what a larf.

anybody know any games like that???

I'm wondering about a basic sword fight system, and using the space bar command to change your combat stance, then have a rock paper scissor relation between the 3 different stances where you can parry a blow or even counter a blow if you counter attack with the proper stance.

I like the way the soldiers move in arma, i think it would feel quite right for close combat.

it would be nice enough just to punch people and block.

Didn't FDF have some working Batons and Axes in it? As far as i know they used some bizon (or other silenced) ammonition for it.

by attack i mean another "weapon related" action, but i'mnot sure i need to document some more

Take a look at Mount and Blade. IMO the best medieval fighting game ever produced (well, the list ain't that long) and it might be good for some inspiration.

I just tried this game for a little while, the handling feel quite nice and simple, left click to raise your weapon, release to swing it, move your camera a bit left , right , up or down to change your stance, right click to parry/raise shield

It feels quite nice, tho it lack the siege weapons and a more tactical feel.

But i think it's something to inspire from.

I had a look at that game as well quite nice, but nowhere near the sword fighting in dark messiah. BUt perhpas we could bring this sort of system to arma somehow?

Can you make a "vehicle" (horse) that put you as driver and let you fire your personal weapon, yet restrict in which direction you can use it (bows can't be used on the left if you are right handed)?

dont you mean bows can only be used on the left if your right handed

To use a simple attack & defend system with just 1 attack (left mouse) it would be enough to have:

Attack: attack whoever is in front of you (45° cone) and is not defending

Defend: stand still and look at attacker makes you block automaticly.

That system defeats ppl attacking all the time, since you can't block when you're in the midst of an attack-animation and your attack doesn't hit anything if you're running backwards to dodge.

Would REALLY love to see that system coming to life, but - let's make it a PIRATE mod plz. I wanna blast beach fortresses with my ship, then storm in and take what ya can HAR HA! biggrin_o.gif

yeah this is all we need and some sort of power attack for extra power hit - perhaps mapped to another key.

If anyone does this they should get a copy of theif. The AI will retreat and advance in small hops and there is a good initiative based system. It works especially well if you don't block.
