manzilla 1 Posted August 8, 2007 I'm not sure if this belongs here but who cares... Does anyone remember when Maruk posted this? "Other tools are in the testing/approval process: not exact release dates are set but we expect to be releasing tools on regular basis in the coming weeks. I will keep you updated if anything changed." Has anyone seen an update? In my opinion, a month later and no new release is far from a "regular basis". Maybe he meant "irregular basis" and "in the coming months" or never. I'm aware they are working on QG but unless they are gonna fix many of the serious bugs in the expansion I'd rather they let the community make the addons/Mods, etc. It seems you guys do much better work then the devs. There isn't much I use that's default anymore. In full disclosure, I'm not an addon maker but I've seen tons of them comment that they are waiting for the tools in order to release more projects. I figured I'd post this for their benefit. Although, I'd love to learn how and start contributing one of these days.
Guest Posted August 8, 2007 Once every few months is regular too. "Soon" not being as soon as you would hope soon would be is normal, its a company stating the "soon" you know, not a customer which has to pay a bill to a company saying I will do it "soon" We will get it when they are ready with it, but right now they are making some money off it first. manzilla 1 Posted August 11, 2007 That's garbage. I understand the fact that they need to work on stuff that makes them money, I have no problem with that. If it takes them another year to release the other tools that's perfectly fine with me. It's the principal of the matter. They know damn well that people are itching to get O2 and V3 that being said, why can't Maruk take 1 minute or so every few weeks to give the community an update? I think the community deserves that much. I just shows the lack of integrity of a company that neglects to communicate with their clients/customers. Ultimately, simple things like this reflect on the overall success of a business.
USMC NEEDER 0 Posted August 11, 2007 If people see an addon that they like, say you love the USMC and you see marines released with new gear and everything. then people will buy it. so thats why the tools should come out before the expansion because people wont buy the expansion without having ArmA itself. benreeper 0 Posted August 11, 2007 Well insulting the devs using hyperbole and wild leaps of logic will certainly not make them release anything quicker. --Ben

SeppSchrot 0 Posted August 11, 2007 well the fact just could be that the tools aint ready yet Yes, and the ArmA/QG content was made with a hexeditor and notepad.
MehMan 0 Posted August 11, 2007 I agree with one point: the updates. It would be nice to hear what's going on with the tools. Most topics get hunted down and locked saying:"they are being worked on". Well I figured that one out myself, I wouldn't be asking otherwise eh?

EvEnLeaSe44 0 Posted August 11, 2007 well... for mods, i can understand the term "when its done"... but for a game that came out last year, and still has no tools to edit maps or vehicles or weapons properly... the term "when its done" is completly BS. I think the tools should of been released ether with the game, or a couple weeks after... Why couldint they just release the tools they had to make the game? "Why couldint they just release the tools they had to make the game?" Money. The tool is worth a lot of money. If they release what makes them able to create arma and everything in it, they loose there way of making money. Sure we would be able to create cool addons, but BIS would go broke. As for tools as a modder i would love to have them, but on the other hand, we are able to make stuff for arma with old o2, look at BW mod, they got soldiers working, an XAM allready released several models that work. Vehicles have allso been released, even vehicles with multiple turrets. I understand the fusteration, and im sure BIS is aware of the ppl on the ground. But things will happen, all we have to do is be patient. Ive been arround since the first OFP demo and the one thing ive learned and accepted is Things take time, if you rush it, it propperly will end up beeing crap. So we wait. "All good things come to those who wait" - But waiting is hell. Cheer up guys, next mht will bring Queens Gambit, then BIS will have time for oure tools
Gux 0 Posted August 11, 2007 Money. The tool is worth a lot of money. If they release what makes them able to create arma and everything in it, they loose there way of making money. Sure, I would say they 'lose' money in a way, since they have to pay salaries to the people working on the tools, but they'll get a return on the investment in the long run if the community is kept alive. Right now they probably need people to work on things that'll give a more immediate return to make things go around. It's about allocation of resources really. echo1 0 Posted August 11, 2007 Sure we would be able to create cool addons, but BIS would go broke. Perhaps BIS should concentrate on improving the game engine and ironing out whatever bugs still remain instead of making addons?
W0lle 1052 Posted August 11, 2007 The tools will be released the day BI thinks they are ready to release. After all the Tools are a free giveaway from BI, something they spent time and money for to develop them and nowhere on your package nor in the EULA there is a word that you have the right to get the tools. If the tools will be released tomorrow or 2 months after the expansion is only up to BI. And swearing or insulting them surely doesn't make things happen faster. As for no updates coming from BI, well that's the famous information policy most of us know since about 6 years no? Now this is just another "When the d**n tools are being released" topic with the usual swearing, complaining and insultings like any other before. The tools will be released... once the devs think they are ready to release, not one minute earlier. I hope this is the last "when the tools are released" topic I close this month, or better the last at all and everyone here finally understands that asking and asking again won't help either.
