Dudester 0 Posted July 30, 2007 I am hoping a few people with a geforce 8800gts can help me out here. I didn't know, untill i ordered my card a few days ago, that there was so many problems associated with this card and the game. I havn't received my card yet, but fingers crossed i don't suffer any problems. What i want to know is, are people still having problems with there card, even after the latest patch 162.18...that came out on the 26/07/07 and if anything has this patch done any good. Can somone also tell me what the main problem with the card and this game is. I just don't want to spend money on somthing thats going to cause me more hassel then good. Would also be good to hear from those who dont't have a problem with the card. The card i have purchased is the PNY Geforce 8800 gts 640mb.
binkster 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Wrong thread but I will answer for you. Â I have 8800gtx and I wouldnt trade it for nothing even though it has problems with the only game I play. Â This problem will be fixed. Â Ive read where there is a problem withany graphics card that has more than 512mb of ram. For some reason the video ram isnt flushing on its own. Â Not sure if its drivers or BIS. Here is a Workaround untill a fix. Â Everyonce inawhile type left SHIFT + minus(numpad) then type the word F-L-U-S-H. Â This will clear the Video ram. Â I have Riva Tuner. Â Its a program that you display information in game from Fan speeds/temps, cpu temps, and gpu temps, FPS, and even Video Ram. I watch the video ram and when it reaches too high I know to flush it. Hope this helps.
oChaos.DNJ 0 Posted July 30, 2007 I have an eVGA 8800GTS 640MB, latest drivers(XP) I just get the occational CTD or cant create texture crashes. Though I think there have been less since the latest drivers.
Dudester 0 Posted July 30, 2007 (1)Wrong thread but I will answer for you. Â (2) Here is a Workaround untill a fix. Â Everyonce inawhile type left SHIFT + minus(numpad) then type the word F-L-U-S-H. (1) Yes wrong thread, sorry, hope an admin puts it in the right one before i lose my money on buying this card. (2) When you say "type left SHIFT + minus(numpad) then type the word F-L-U-S-H" where do i type all this? and do i type FLUSH or F-L-U-S-H (3) Where do i get the Riva Tuner from, do you have a link please. Btw, is this definitely going to be fixed, and does the flushing happen in other games. I ask this because if BIS are to blame for the problem, well its been 9 months since this game was released, so what makes you think they will fix it. Also how many times do you have to do this flush thing in the course of 1 hour, its just i think it would bug the hell out of me. Thanks!
ck-claw 1 Posted July 30, 2007 2) In Game - Press and hold left shift + Minus(num pad) then let go and type in FLUSH 3) Here!
binkster 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Yea what claw said, I usually do it every 10min or so. It may be BIS fault or nvidia fault but really what matters that it gets fixed. Just google rivatuner and check there forums on the proper way to fix it up. flushing solves all my CTD, I can usually see it coming. LODS start messing up and things start blinking. Dudester 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Yea what claw said, I usually do it every 10min or so. That has just convinced me, to cancel my geforce 8800 gts and buy the new ATI card 2900xT.
guerilla -MCY- 0 Posted July 31, 2007 i got some solutions for the 8800GTX which helped me to get rid of most problems: download latest beta drivers: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html set prerender limit to 1 (connceted with vsync) solution for mouselag !! i did it with nHancer get ntune (google it) and overclock the bitch, search the net for stable oc results. with this tool you can also overclock the cpu. add maxmem as ArmA doesnt like more then 512Mb on cards, you got 640, not sure doh, but seems to work better for me, less crashes. ending should look like this: ArmA\arma.exe" -nosplash -maxmem=512 -world=empty in big maps i need to have high texture and object settings, on normal or lower i have texture errors. good luck... RN Escobar 0 Posted July 31, 2007 lol, cancelling a good card to buy something that is worse. and i'm almost guaruntee the 29XX series has all the early problems that Nvidia have allready started dealing with. Good luck with that

I play for hours without crashing or using the FLUSH command. Just dont alt-tab from the game. Every time you alt-tab it uses more and more memory untilll it gets the error. kklownboy 43 Posted July 31, 2007 lol, cancelling a good card to buy something that is worse.and i'm almost guaruntee the 29XX series has all the early problems that Nvidia have allready started dealing with. Good luck with that he was getting a 8800 GTS, not GTX. I run 2900xt (x2) and have not a issue at all with rendering this game, nor did i with 1950xtx's. No leaks issues nada. My buddys with 8800 gt(pick your letter) have had only pain and they had to figure ou on there own or through this community. Now the 1950 agp, and gt have been problematic for sure. but the 2900 as of the 7.7s and the 7.8beta has been awesome. To go one farther a ATI/AMD guy even came in here to help on the leak issue , which means they (AMD) have the game in there test group now, go find a NVDA guy... lol. So the 8800 gtx is the topdog card, but it is also the top pain in this game. If all you do is play this game, then the 2900xt is the best card right now. But with a lil work you can make your 8800s run really really good in this game. My pair of 2900xt's on high settings 1600/1200 with normal AA and no shadows is in the 90+fps, with the lame lows in the 30-40. Shadows are a big hit and they are not optimal yet in the game engine, I finnaly gave up on them.
Dudester 0 Posted July 31, 2007 lol, cancelling a good card to buy something that is worse.and i'm almost guaruntee the 29XX series has all the early problems that Nvidia have allready started dealing with. Well, from what i have read its on a par with the geforce 8800gts. It cannot handle the aa like a geforce, but the screen is crystal clear unlike like the fog you get in the geforce. I also hear, that in SLI mode, that it beats 2 Geforce 8800gts when bench marked. I also know it doesn't have driver issues. Now i'm finding it difficult to understand why you think its such a crap card. Maybe you can explain some of your research, because from where i'm sat, all i hear is complaints about this game and the Geforce 8800.
Q1184 0 Posted July 31, 2007 @kklownboy Thanks for the review, i really missed info as to how 2900 performs in Arma. Seems like it's really more preferrable than 8800 atm. Though it's a shame a pair of 2900's can't handle shadows in Arma
Dudester 0 Posted July 31, 2007 wrong forum Might be in the wrong thread, but why wrong forum? This is a question about how the cards run the game, wich i belive is important. There is no point getting a card that doesn't play the game well.
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted July 31, 2007 I also hear, that in SLI mode, that it beats 2 Geforce 8800gtx when bench marked. Wrong, It takes 2 gts to beat 1 gtx.
RN Escobar 0 Posted July 31, 2007 well i own an 8800gtx and i never had half the problems that were complained about on here. i never understood why people had such problems. i'm glad the 2900's hold up to arma, i hadn't really looked for a report on them outside of looking at the bench's and its no GTX killer, which i thought it might have been given its late release. i also see AMD/ATI have released a 1GB version for some god forsaken reason. binkster 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Only reason I flush every 10min is to be safe. Im sure I wouldnt have too. Also I play with everything on very high so that could be an issue too. But like I said Im sure there will be fix. By the way all bench marks ive seen gtx beats 2900s all day.
kklownboy 43 Posted August 1, 2007 well i can run shadows and still get a good frame rate. But i like the nice 60fps steady with vsync on, tho the lame lows everybody gets 30s ect.. Tho some ppl play at 30/40s for there highs. My res is 1600/1200 due to the fact my LCD is Native there and it looks poor to me to reduce it, gets blurry.... To me shadows have always been flacky/ flashy, like when you spin around and they come and go way to slow, Convoy is a good place to see them be a issue... On the 1.05, and my 1950xtx's i had better frames with shadows on high? but my frames where still 30fps less than my current 2900's for the highend. And of course a 8800GTX is better than a 2900xt, but i have two 2900xt's , funny on the fly over intro i hit 154fps... wish i could get 60+ in the trees, in game. Will have to get a pair of 8800gtx ULTRAs in SLI for that i guess. But my MB is Intel and not a SLI MB(motherBoard). For a single card setup i would go in this order 8800gtx>2900xt>8800gts... no other cards need apply. but if two cards is a option( 1000$ then the 2900xt's for sure. By the way all bench marks ive seen gtx beats 2900s all day. yes when the 2900s first came out a GTX would smoke a 2900, but a CF set up with 2900s would win alot of ...(hate to say it) " benchmarks... That was before ATI/AMD started getting the drivers out (monthly.) and now a 2900 CF setup walks over a single 8800gtx. And in this game it is a good choice right now. But still 2 cards just to beat one card... All my framerates are from EVO.
