celery 8 Posted July 22, 2007 <span style='color:orange'><span style='font-size:17pt;line-height:100%'>CTF Camel Style</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>- because real pilots do it that way.</span></span> Greetings, fellow biplane enthusiasts (both of you)! This is a CTF where your only means of fighting is the Sopwith Camel, you even take flags while in the air. The map is situated in the southern part of the island between two coastal towns with bridges. Capturing a flag isn't very conventional: you take one by passing under each of the enemy's bridges in order and then rocket to your "scoring flag" to score a point. The flag itself is a glowing ball of light to make it stand out in a map like this. The basic scripts and options are taken from Camel Rage so adapting to Camel Style shouldn't be too hard. Your wingtips have colored blinky lights and you carry your own team's flag on your wing for easy distinction between friend and foe. The screenshots hardly do justice to the action, but it's all clear when you're in an epic air battle with up to 20 Camels a side gliding to glory guns blazing and tails smoking and some planes diving under the bridges trying to shake enemy interceptors. A minimum of 8 players is recommended. The default weapon, "Light Vickers" has a script that lowers the weapon's massive damage to a more tactical level. An enemy will be destroyed with 30 rounds instead of 10. The weakest weapon option, SAW is tuned up to deal 2x damage from normal, which should resemble the original Vickers from the earlier patches. Download location: Armaholic As an added bonus, here are some tips for flying a Sopwith Camel: #1 Unless you have a strange need to slow down, like pulling up from a high speed dive, always press Q (default) to put power in the engine so your plane can climb, turn and stay in the air. #2 Use your mouse to aim at your opponents and use the keyboard's movement keys to make big and strong moves like fast rolling, diving, pulling up and sharp turning. #3 When you're going to kill an enemy, aim at their upper hull, in other words where the pilot's head is. If the gun is low powered, a headshot ends the battle quicker than wrecking their plane. If the gun kills with 20 hits or less, line up for an accurate burst and fire until the plane is a rusty piece of trash. #4 The best moment to shoot is when the enemy is pulling up some 30-50 m in front of you, so you will have a fully exposed target with lots of area to hit. Basically every angle is good except facing completely toward or away from you. #5 Deflection shooting can be hard, but you can be good at very long ranges, too. If the enemy is not flying straight in front of you, aim with the inner circle of your reticle "touching" the target's nose part. The deflection varies depending on speed, range and bullet velocity but it's easy to learn. #6 Don't fly too fast. 120 km/h is the speed limit for optimal control. If you fly faster, the plane will turn slower and if you are diving, pulling up may be very hard. If you want to fly under a bridge and dive from high above, lower your engine power (default: Z) and pull up a little before you line up with the bridge. Inertia does the rest. Infam0us 10 Posted July 22, 2007 I have personally been playing this mission with quite a few others for the past few days, and I must say it is awesome! Although getting to grips with flying under the bridges is hard, but once you do that it's great fun!
Jack-UK 0 Posted July 23, 2007 This map is great! (so long as celery isnt on the opposing side )
celery 8 Posted July 25, 2007 Any comments & critique on the released version yet? So far it's been a bit silent on the server side. There may be a tournament featuring this map in the near future in OnlineWarfare (money) or Gamez-Club (glory), so I suggest you folks get familiar with it post-haste. This is the map that Camel Rage has prepared you for.
-DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted July 26, 2007 great fun, but not entirely popular at the moment...when I tried to play a 30 minute CTF the server slowly began to empty. I think its 'too hard' for some players to play. LOL I was able to take a flag, but got shot down trying to score it. thanks for your imagination
Jack-UK 0 Posted July 26, 2007 Yeah its more complex than your simple "run and gun" map... But i've found that on the MCY server the ones who stay around and keep at it eventually get hooked and always want to play it again ^^ Im sure soon it will spread in popularity, im pretty hooked, and im crap at it, but its good fun and i can still get the odd kill or flag cap for a sense of acheivement

celery 8 Posted October 23, 2007 =- @ Oct. 23 2007,14:15)]i cant play it on the MCY server, the controls are completely blocked. The control block is a rare and random bug that sometimes happens at the start of any game, the next time should be normal again.
