snakefang 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Why is it, that the stryker can go into the water? It can in real life, so why not in game, and even then, with over 500 fixes, why cant they simply make it so it can in a patch?
Guggy 0 Posted June 3, 2007 I drive in water just fine. I always end up dying and drowning within my metal coffin, but what would you expect from a non-amphibious vehicle?
snakefang 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Um, the stryker is amphibous. Well, in real life anyway.
smellyjelly 0 Posted June 3, 2007 No it's not. Quote[/b] ]Unlike many modern armored personnel carriers, the Stryker is not an amphibious vehicle. However, it can ford water up to the tops of the wheels due to the watertight combat hatch seals. From Wikipedia. I know... it's not always right though. sniper pilot 36 Posted June 3, 2007 Lmao! the stryker is a coffin when put in the water, it is NOT amphibious at all in real life... You are either thinking of the LAV or you are really misinformed...
5133p39 16 Posted June 3, 2007 Um, the stryker is amphibous.Well, in real life anyway. I am far from being expert on these Stryker vehicles, but as far as anything that i read on them, they aren't amphibious - they cannot float. Maybe the Canadian LAV (on which the Strykers are based) is an amphibious vehicle, but not the Stryker.
frederf 0 Posted June 3, 2007 US Marine Corps -> LAV-25 -> Amphibious US Army -> Stryker -> Not Amphibious It is funny to see "Stryker ICV (M2) Lost at sea!" on Evolution maps since people might guess they are amphibious but they are not.
TinFoiledPhoenix 0 Posted June 3, 2007 I'm pretty sure LAV IIIs cannot swim either, after all they have the extra weight of their turret.
snakefang 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Um, if they arnt amphibous, then why, when i was riding in a stryker, did we not sink when we went across a lake?
abs 2 Posted June 3, 2007 Um, if they arnt amphibous, then why, when i was riding in a stryker, did we not sink when we went across a lake? Was the lake really shallow?
VXR 9 Posted June 3, 2007 Um, if they arnt amphibous, then why, when i was riding in a stryker, did we not sink when we went across a lake? I have checked 3, 5 websites and there is not one website telling it is able to float. The Patria is able to float, except the Dutch patria simply because it has more armor and because of that also not able to float.
recoill 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Um, if they arnt amphibous, then why, when i was riding in a stryker, did we not sink when we went across a lake?. They both use the Piranha 3 hull. The Stryker, LAV 3, & the Piranha 3 all have a Fording Depth of Approximately 1.2 to 1.4 Meters (About 54 inches). They don't? hmm strange I believe to see the word army here a few times. There is also this: Quote[/b] ]The battalion also discovered that while the Stryker vehicle can easily ford streams and shallow rivers, Soldiers must take care not to exceed certain speeds. They found that if they entered the water at fast speeds, then water would splash up over the front of the vehicle, filling the engine compartment, causing the vehicle to stall. When the vehicle slowed down, the water would not splash over the hull, and allowed the vehicle to move through the water without stalling.

ryankaplan 1 Posted June 3, 2007 As far as i've read, The US Army has now about an equivelant of 2 Infantry Divisions fully armed with strykers. Also to my knowledge (also gained from reading) Stryker is not amphibious, because it is not designed for that task. It is meant to be issued to Motorised Infantry Divisions to give them more mobility, and mobile firepower.

BadBone 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Future Weapons on discovery showed a whole unit of strykers ( with all sorts of different guns ) going like bats outta hell in what i thought was deep water ( i could be wrong )But unfortunately, even though this Future Weapons /Stryker     is the correct episode ( shown on uk tv ) it seems to miss out the water section all together Edit : a quick google says stryker is not amphibious, so it must of been shallow water
weegee_101 0 Posted June 3, 2007 The Stryker is a US Army vehicle, not a US Marine vehicle, and as such isn't designed to be amphibious. Anyone who would tell you otherwise is sorely mistaken. The Marines have the LAV-25, which is what ultimately inspired the Army to design and build the Stryker, but they took several features they didn't need out, such as the amphibious capabilities. Guess they got tired of inexperienced drivers throwing tracks on them. They're not replacing the Bradleys with the strykers. They're using the strykers to replace some troop carrying trucks and other units that had no armoured personel carriers before in order to try and harden them up with what they are calling ICVs.
