Benthenoob 0 Posted May 26, 2007 how does the card (nvidia 7950) run arma ? and which patch is best to play arma on with the 7950 ?
5133p39 16 Posted May 26, 2007 That also depends on your CPU, but i wouldn't be afraid to say that you may expect something between 20-40 FPS in bigger towns like Ortego, about 30-50 FPS in outside areas, and 20-35 in dense woods. All with medium settings, and 1500m viewdistance. Of course the framerate depends also on what is going on around you. In some action, be prepared to expect those minimal FPS values more often than anything else.
mosh 0 Posted May 26, 2007 I built a cpu awhile back for a buddy with a 7950 GT OC 512 MB. Athlon 64 3800 + 2048 MB DDR 400 7950 GT OC 512 MB His runs very well with normal to high settings at 1152 x 864 resolution with a view distance of 3000. Could probably go higher with the settings, but it runs great as is. I have the same specs, except I have a 7600 GT OC 256 MB. I use the same exact settings, with just slightly less performance. 8800 GTX or GTS would be better, 7900 GTX OC would be better, but really that's about it for Nvidia cards. That's just my opinion, and I'm certainly no expert on it... I might pick up a 7950 myself as newegg has some good ones for around $200 compared to a lot more for the others I listed. Scrub 0 Posted May 26, 2007 Mine runs very well with high and some very high settings. win XP AMD 4400 x2 The prices will drop again when the 2900/8800 price war ramps up over the next month or so, so prepare for a cheaper SLI setup.
Benthenoob 0 Posted May 27, 2007 cheers fellas but what patch are you using cause i know some people use 1.05 rather than 1.07 cause of performance what do you 7950 users find better ?
Zanzibar 0 Posted May 27, 2007 It used to run fine as of patch 1.05 on medium/high settings, beautifull. With very high settings it became slow. In patch 1.07 performance has improved. Since patch 1.07 (both beta's) I unfortunately crash between 5-25 minutes, with an occaisional D3D9.DLL, 16 color desktop or a reboot. But there is a seperate topic on this in the troubleshoot section.
Scrub 0 Posted May 27, 2007 The latest 1.07beta, runs smooth. Have to take AF down to normal in the forests to keep >30fps, but that's no biggie.
Benthenoob 0 Posted May 29, 2007 could anyone post a picture of what there arma looks like using the 7950 ? im doing this to get an idea of what mine will look like when i get my computer back from the shop where the cards getting fitted thanks in advance
DaRat 0 Posted May 29, 2007 It looks just like it does with any other card at full settings. I'm running an E6700 (2.6Ghz x2), 2Gb Corsair II RAM and 2 7950GT's in SLI (512mb). Running all at High - Very high (very decent FPS [1.07 beta])
R3MF 0 Posted May 29, 2007 running an XFX 7950GT at 1680x1050 with all settings at Max. i get about 25fps which is fine for me.
multikiller 0 Posted May 29, 2007 same question from me: can somebody that has a 7950 card (512mb) put a screenshot here? i'm going to buy the 7950GT 512MB,,(220euro) and i'm wondering how it will be in ArmA with that card
Benthenoob 0 Posted May 29, 2007 exactly what im after !! a screen shot will be most appreicated cheers
stabiz 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB ram, and a single 7950GT 512MB, all maxed out except shadows, and a view distance of 6000. Very playable. (1.07) Screen:
ArmaVidz 0 Posted May 30, 2007 cheers fellas but what patch are you using cause i know some people use 1.05 rather than 1.07 cause of performance what do you 7950 users find better ? The single player missions will run fine with a 3800+ X2 and 7950GT, but if you get into the mission editor and anything more than 10 men per side, with air and armor, you're going to see a slideshow. Latest round of upgrades I've done is an Athlon 6000+X2. Now things run smooth. Bottom line, if you're running a 7950 GT (mine is eVGA Superclocked) you better have a hugely beefy CPU like a 5200+ or higher to run anything other than single player with any detail. Kirby 2 Posted May 30, 2007 Would a 6.0GHz thingy and a GT7950 KO Superclocked with 1GB RAM work fine?
Scrub 0 Posted May 30, 2007 You'd probably want 2gb. I've run my 4400x2 and 7950gt in coop with ~30 players and a swarm of AI, all without dropping less than 20FPS in Corazol around some foliage. Most settings on high, textures/object detail on very high, Anisotropic filtering on normal. Zooming wasn't very plesant, but it still was playable.
capnfoo 0 Posted May 30, 2007 I've played this maxed out at 1600x1200 on a machine with two sli 7950's
nth1739 0 Posted May 30, 2007 When I first puchased the game I started with: AMD64 4000+ (2.4 GHz single core) 2GB DDR1 RAM 1x 7950GT 512MB This setup was adequate to play at 1440X900 with everything set to medium settings. I averaged about 20-40 fps throughout the game. I then upgraded to SLI 7950s to help boost my FPS. Though Arma isn't optimized for SLI I did notice an increase in FPS and smoother game play all around. Though I still bog down to 25-30 fps in online matches and heavy AI encounters, its still very playable. For arma the athlon 3800 X2 is a minimum for decent FPS. This game is very CPU intensive, especially if you want to turn the draw distance up beyond 2000 yards. I have to cap mine at 2000 until I upgrade my CPU. imustkill 0 Posted May 30, 2007 I have two 7950GTs in SLI. I run 1280x1024 with settings Normal-High and I never get below 25 frames per second. When I had one 7950GT I just toned the settings down a tad (shadows were the big fps killer for me) and it was fine. All things considered, definitely a great card for its price. Benthenoob 0 Posted May 30, 2007 nice one im just now hoping my cpu will allow arma to run well i now know from your responces that the card will go well with arma and with 2 gb of ram my cpu is from 2000 the same with the processor and if they're the same thing im sorry but i dont know nothing about the insides of a computer, i was just trying to find out if my new card and ram would make the game look good and run nicely
DaRat 0 Posted May 30, 2007 @The guys who are having good performance with 7950gt's Could you please say which drivers you're using? Especially R3MF: Quote[/b] ]running an XFX 7950GT at 1680x1050 with all settings at Max.i get about 25fps which is fine for me. I have 2 7950GT's and I can't even do that :O What drivers are you using?
ArmaVidz 0 Posted June 1, 2007 93.71 Forceware's. I found this bit of help extremely valuable: BAD COMPANY'S Forceware Tweaking Guide +5 Stars! I still have performance issues IMO. With this current configuration I shouldn't have a hickup (theoretically) but of course, there always is. It's a relative term I suppose, triggers in the editor (multiple triggers that is) can drop the FPS by as much as 20FPS, infantry and harriers where harriers are miles away from the killzone cause lag, NIM Mist+Sand+Fog KILLS FPS. There's a whole bunch of things that kill FPS. In the end though, I'm still having trouble with shadows. I'm prepping a beach landing for my a new vid, and no matter what I do I can't get the shadows to show on the soldiers or...sheesh...anything for that matter. ARGH! I just bought a 20" LCD, so now I'm running at 1400x1050 with AA/AF lowered, but when combat gets hectic, my FPS drops to 12-13. FRAPing that almost kills everything completely. edit: Note: The shadows disappearing are from the NIM Weather Pack. I must have 1.07 instead of 1.05 (version of ArmA I'm running is 1.05). Gonna try the 1.07 Beta for ArmA as the NIM weather pack has some great effects. Just my 2cents ARMAVIDZ
imustkill 0 Posted June 1, 2007 I am using the drivers that came with my BFG CD and I have had no problems with it. Also keep in mind that other things such as your CPU, your Memory quantity and speed, among others could be responsible for some performance loss.
