The graphic in SB works great...it doesn’t look too good but tell me if you know any good looking engine that supports visual range up to 5000 meters smile.gif  

That is pretty important in a tank sim...SB is THE best and most realistic tank sim ever and will be until SB2 is released…it's a GREAT game/simulator.

Sorry…this has nothing to do with this thread but I don’t like it when people put graphic before gameplay sad.gif<span id='postcolor'>

GR is a different story. GR uses 500m big maps, graphic is almoust great and gameplay sucks.

OFp graphic is OK (it gives you a very realistic felling. Great character, house and vehicle models), it uses big maps and its gameplay is great. Tank gameply is a little unrealistic, unrealistic tank sounds.

SB graphic sucks (fells like you would be in a cartoon), realistic sounds and gameplay but i can't enjoy the game because of its graphic. I'm sorry.

in light of the fact I got my rant across, I now edit  to be kinder and gentler. lol  We now return to our regularly scheduled program.

btw my rant was at no one in particular, its just that I see comparisons being made to FP all the time. But FP is a combat sim, and anything else out at this date is a combat "game". Until a Flashpoint equivelent comes I don t think comparisons should be made.

And by the looks of it, that will be a very long time from now.

Ehh.. don’t really know who you are talking to…but I guess its me. You say “No FPs graphics are not the greatest, but FPs wide range of scope in all areas make it rockâ€â€¦ that exactly what I say!

I was talking about Steel Beasts…and just as OFP is great though it doesn’t have that great graphics so is SB. It won a lot of awards for best simulator of the year(2000 I think)  though its not even 3D accelerated…What I mean is that if you only go for graphics you will miss out on many good games.

You should not talk about the graphic in GR if you only have played the demo…GR uses more polygons on details(except for vehicles) because of its short visibility range compared to OFP. It use some nice effects too... like reflections in water for example and your uniform get soaked walk through a river.

BUT I rather have the graphics and a visibility range up to 600m(or something) that OFP offer…

That’s maybe good for a soldier sim but for a realistic tank sim you will need a lot more than that..5000m or something and you can not have that with an engine looking like OFP or GR on todays hardware.

So I think  the engine in SB does a great job for a tanks sim…but Im really looking forward to SB2 with 3D acceleration I hope smile.gif

OFP is a very a good soldier sim/game but SB is the best and most realistic combat sim I have ever played.…

But that just my opinion smile.gif

I've noticed alot of complaints about the AK-47 and M16 sound samples being "to weak". I'm using a SBLive 1024 soundcard and the M16/AK-47 sound's nearly punched a hole in my eardrums.

I have to play OFP with ear defenders on now. Could be a Driver/OS problem, especally if your running WinXP... damn I hate XP so much mad.gif (Win 98 man myself tounge.gif ).

It's not the volume of the samples, its the richness of the sample. The entire bass portion seems to be non-existent to me.

Nice pack satchel

I have SB PCI 128 WDM

And the M16 - AK74 sounds, are stuffed on my machine...

The shot sounds like a pea gun, then the sound of the bullet flying through the air, the bit after the shot fire, is almost 3x as loud as the shot fire it's self.

Whats wrong with my sound card?

A few other guns have the problem, but it is not as bad.

Does any1 installed it with a terratec xfire 1024 with winxp?

I think the problem is that winxp enable EAX by default, so its not possible to turn it off´... But maybe the terratic control panel can turn it off?

Here is a video of a M16 being fired on the range:

Judge for yourself how much bass there is, and compare to the M16 sound i used, it is out of this video. Of course it´s a Mpeg, it also depends on the camera ,mic and the bitrate it was recorded with, but everyone who ever shot a weapon in real life knows how it sounds.

The dominant frequency of an assault rifle gunshot with normal super sonic ammo, no matter if 5.56mm or 7.62mm, is 300Hz-3000Hz at 150-160 dezibel (measured 1m from the muzzle break), that´s the spectrum our ears are most sensitive to, and it will actually hurt at this loudness without ear protection. Against common believe it is a.e. wrong that 7.62mm would be much louder than 5.56mm, or that the super sonic boom of larger caliber rifles would differ extremely from smaller caliber. Measured at 10m distance the 5.56 x 45mm M16 produces the same 141 dezibel as the AK-47, a 7.62 x 39mm rifle. If you are exposed to this noise continuously without protection, you will get your hearing damaged- permanently; mine already dropped very slightly caused by shooting noise in over 6 years.

I did take that into account when making the samples (not the ear damage issue, ROFL biggrin.gif, but the frequency). The bass many are asking for, is in terms of authenticy not realistic, Ghost Recon is a good example of such unrealistic weapon sound, all guns, except the MG3 and MP5SD that are acceptable, have science fiction samples and are totally exaggerated, they have nothing in common with real weapons, especially the M16 not.

It may be that people think weapons have low frequency bass, because they only heard gunshots from a distance, or in bad quality video/ audio clips. An M16 heard at 100m will sound completely different as if it was heard from the shooters position, much of the higher frequency gets lost on the way to the observer; ground and object reflection, as air consistence are doing the rest to deform the sound, so it appears with less treble but more bass and dull.

The next major point that spoke against boosting bass is HW Audio acceleration, as it adds bass and muffles the samples by itself without that i could do anything about it, if i would change the samples (and make them more unrealistic by making the bass dominant), you would get a low rumble Flakcannon without clarity, that would be totally way off.

So i´m asking what you want, realism or arcade?

P.S: I can´t do anything till i get back on Sunday evening.

The realistic lack of bass in the sound doesn't bother me but the amount of echo and reverb should be just a little bit quieter.

I did...

Except for the overdose of echo in some sounds, it works pretty well. Just make sure you have Terratec XP drivers installed and HW sound disabled in the OFP options (EAX enabled works fine for me).

You going to be surprised how loud even subsonic ammunition can be when fired with a suppressed AR, not to speak of supersonic. It´s going to change your point of view quite a bit on some sounds you might have heard in films or games wink.gif.

That's quite interesting.

This is for those who are not quite familiar with desibels:

Painful:

150 dB = rock music peak

140 dB = firearms, air raid siren, jet engine

130 dB = jackhammer

120 dB = jet plane take-off, amplified rock music at 4-6 ft., car stereo, band practice

Extremely loud:

110 dB = rock music, model airplane

106 dB = timpani and bass drum rolls

100 dB = snowmobile, chain saw, pneumatic drill

90 dB = lawnmower, shop tools, truck traffic, subway

Very loud:

80 dB = alarm clock, busy street

70 dB = busy traffic, vacuum cleaner

60 dB = conversation, dishwasher

Moderate:

50 dB = moderate rainfall

40 dB = quiet room

Increase of 6dB doubles the sound pressure.

Satchel,  while I agree with you that there shouldn't be more "Bass" (wrong word there), I know how the M16 sounds when fired because I fired it for four years (and on and off now).  You are probably right as to what it sounds from a distance and in retrospect it is probably very close.  I think most of my problem is with the frequency response of the sample. it's like I can tell its been ripped from a video, because of it's "simplified" and alot of the subtler sound, which you seem to capture with your other samples, is missing in that sample.  I am happy with the current sound because it is very close, but I just think that there may be a higher quality sample out there. Have you tried emailing colt? smile.gif I am satisifed with the pack right now, and don't have any problems if you state that the current pack is final.

anyway, thanks for the soundpack. its a whole new experience. smile.gif

trucks sound is way to high.

try the SP "ambush" mission:

when mounting [back] on the truck and the commander

speaks on how to be carefull on the battlefield -

he can be hardly heard because of the truck sound level.

the original sound doest show such a high level in comparision ..

can any1 confirm that ?

If you have problems doubt its the addons fault. My OFP works fine and the sounds are just GREAT! smile.gif
