ATTN:  Those of us with 8800's

Not sure if it's just GTX's but thats what I have.

If you find your textures going fubar on you it's because more than likely the cause of everything set to VERY HIGH.

This is a big no-no, and it might be a vista thing. Company of heroes has the same problem and it won't let you play on Ultra.

Gotta wait for a patch to fix it, otherwise stay on all high and it should be fine. Worked for me, hope that helps. welcome.gif

I don´t really have any serious LOD issues but shadows are not rendered when set to "high" or "very high", but they do work at "normal". Performance is quite good, even when everything is set to very high and vd is at 10000 but it wouldn´t surprise me that its partly because of the missing shadows.

1/3 of time the game runs perfectly fine, then it would crash/freeze, sometime with signs of texture lod bug

oh is the magic hour lighting problem around 1900 fixed yet?

does the sky get a not fitting shade of blue then? Saw that in the morning too, can't say anything about the patch regarding this though.

On topic:

Hehe, it's fun, so I thought i could give it a try and set everything to high, but it didn't help anything. Then I remembered the 3km viewdistance I set, lowered it to 1,2km (also turned pp off) and suddenly nightvision works, compass/clock/gps on the map don't do funny stuff like oszillate with 10hz and there are much less LOD problems, geometry ones are almost gone, however my uniform is still often alive and changing mipmaps in 1st person, same for iron sights and some other things.

Gamma/brightness still looks a bit strange here, but I will investigate further!

I'm a GTXer and don't get the issue with 160.03 and 161.05 drivers... maybe you should give it a shot, as I used to get it all the time.

I have a BFG 8800 GTX with XP, and set everything to Very High.  No AA or AF tho. And haven`t had any problems.  Love this card. Using the 97.92s still.

I have a GTX8800 running things on high to normal settings and I do occassionally get the lod bug but it goes after a second or two.

How many of you have tried beta 1.7 for ARMA?

Has anyone got problem free results with their 8800? I am still on 1.5 and do not wish to waste several hours only to be dissapointed.

Did you try forcing HDRPrecision to 16 in ArmA.cfg then making the file read only?

This (someone also suggested it in the beta thread) and lowering view distance did the trick for me. No significant LOD problems so far and gamma/brightness is back to looking normal. Only the high/verry high soft (?) shadows are still not showing up.

They do work with some other drivers, I assume? After all they're a huge part in making forrests etc. look really good, I miss them. However, the rest appears to work fine with max. Settings.

Rejn, I think LOD problems that disappear after a second or two are normal and just related to the streaming ArmA uses. What we usually mean is if it doesn't update even when looking at the object for minutes.

suma said that the VRAM handling of the 8800 drivers is not stable, well i dunno if its true, but keep VRAM load intensive stuff at min should do the trick

so back to OFP with a bit better GFX guys.......... crazy_o.gif

Well the frustration is too much for me, I simply can't play Arma in its current state, just wasted so much time/effort trying to get it to work properly but now I really feel like clicking uninstall and never coming back. Whilst it is on my hdd its too temping to waste time hoping to get it working.

propably offtopic but just for the record, i overlock my MSI 8800GTX from 576 /900 to 630/1030. gives me 3-5 fps more and runs stable since 1-2 months without additional cooler or ventilator settings. 1.07beta is unplayable but 1.05+beta runs accetpable...

Ah then I am truly blessed haha...

In addition though is there anyone with the 1.7 patch and a 8800 series NOT experiencing any probs?

would be good know ;0 if theres one in ten chances I may risk an install heh.

Me. I am not seeing any problems with my GTX 8800 and the 1.07 patch. I am seeing some performance increases, smoother mouse aiming, better A.I. pathfinding. .... ie the A.I. drivers. So far so good.

Vista/XP?

Driver?

I am going to guess at Vista as most people seem to be having problems are using XP..

What settings are you using? View distance? Are you using any tweaks?

Have a GTS 640MB with the 158 drivers, Duo 6420, 2GB RAM and XP 32, everything on High or very high (except terrain detail) and a VD of 2.5km, HDRPrecision = 16 and everything looks good now with the patch.

Seems to be faster

Seems to be clearer

Seems to be no "spin lag"

Zooming the view I now don't see LOD changes anymore

Nice thumbs-up.gif

I did try cranking it up to 10km VD but the LODs and terrain textures went much worse than I've seen before, Fog seemed to be slightly worse. Hence why I went back to 2.5km and its fine.

I've noticed a small graphic glitch for things like power lines, they are overly visible as a jaggered line and up close these and my ship aerials have active "blobs" cycling up and down their length. Not a biggy, probably something to do with AntiA

No tweaks really, just the maxmem=1024, view distance at 1200 default.

97.92 drivers

1024x768x32, all settings maxed but no AA or AF, low shadows. 1.07 beta, I took this pic at the start of blood sweat and tears mission.

http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs315&d=07196&f=arma1.jpg

This pics fps was at 46. All i can say is, damn I love this game.
