Call of Duty Modern Warfare...

Recommended Posts

I've played this a bit today. The gameplay is extremely highly scripted and offensively focussed on the player. You have a team of apparently invincible allies versus an unlimited number of baddies. All the player has to do is move to the next trigger or complete a task without getting killed. Absurd moments include watching a team-mate survive getting shot in the head by a tank at point blank range, and surviving the hardest part of the game (waiting for a helicopter to rescue you) by hiding in a tin shed with grenades going off outside every 0.5 seconds. Ohh, and the blatantly ripped-off Aliens quotes, and even stolen OFP death war-quotes!

Having said all that, it's good fun and has great immersion smile_o.gif

Is there much difference between the demo and the finished product? I just finished the demo and it was a nothing special, for me it didn't stand out at all from any of the dozens of other FPS games out at the moment. Sounds were pretty weak too.

That said I had a look at the AC-130U mission on Youtube and it looks worth getting the game just for that.

How does the multiplayer compare to BF2 (my current arcade-type, bloodlust quencher)?

I installed it, played it for one hour and removed it. Shitty propaganda game. US and UK saves the world from terrorists, socialists and ruskies again.

Not my type of game I wont shell out any money for it. However if it pissed off Spokesperson, then that justifies it's existance for me :-D

Well, my PCness doesn't extend to PC games, I'd shoot Ghandi and behead Mother Teresa if the graphics and gameplay were right.

Anyway COD4 just seemed another basic "fight down this tube", tactic-free game, which is fine, but there just didn't seem anything new, anything to make it stand out from the crowd.

It's pure brainwash. Just like in SWAT4 where all criminals were foreigners, especially North Koreans (!). Kids are taught one reality at school but can't apply it to the real world. No wonder why the fail.

In Crysis enemies are North Koreans and Aliens. Yet everyone complains about north korean propaganda nobody ever heard.

You make a valid point Spokesperson. Same goes for movies, Cold War, it was always the Russians, since then the Arabs get it, with a smattering of Chinese and North Koreans. I saw a doco on telly about an Arabic software devolper, making games where arab kids get to kill Israelis. Only fair I spose.

Sorry to venture offtopic, but that's why I enjoyed that movie "Shooter", I expected another "Yanks save the entire world from the evil dark-skinned people", but it was the enemy within.

Same can't be said for Lions for Lambs, which seemed like a community announcement TV commercial.

Oh boo hoo. Methinks you put way to much stock in these things. These games are not propaganda they are just trying to make a buck they aren't part of some government subsidized ministry of propaganda. I'll just play Sigmund Freud here and surmise that deep down you are just jealous and frustrated that all the communist and Jihad games do poorly and no one wants to play them.

Special Force = shit, propaganda, terrible production.

COD4 = shit, independent dime store comic story, great production.

Why don't you just take a chill pill and just mellow out. Everything in the wold is propaganda to you with the exception of propaganda that supports your world view.

I guess he was hoping against hope that a western idependently owned PC game business would create a overthrow the capitalist system game.

If you had played the game, you would have known that the criminals aren't all foreigners. I take it that you haven't played the game.

Anyway, back on-topic, my computer would implode if I tried to install CoD 4 and I'm too cheap to buy CoD 4 for the XBOX 360. Damn local video store has a billion copies of that very average FPS game in which you can control "time" but only a handful of COD 4 copies. I never can get my hands on a CoD 4 copy. banghead.gif

Of course not. (but there are things that are subsidized by the US govmt. The movie "Top Gun" for instance.) However, the government doesn't have monopoly on politics. That is, capitalist propaganda doesn't have to be government sponsored. The companies can take care of that themselves.

I played SWAT 4 and could only find foreign (and esp non-white) criminals. There were like 20% north korean terrorists, then arabs, latinos etc.

I played some nice games that aren't like that.

Armed Assault is one. (US are bad guys just like in the real world)

The Stalin Subway is another. (It's great, you stop a coup attempt against Stalin (popular guy in Russia nowadays)).

Hammer and Sickle (Fallout Style, but better)

Close Combat: Cross of Iron (WW2 style)

Those are real games.

Now, you are just straight lying. The second mission's objective is to arrest or kill a white kidnapper. I could point out more white non-foreign criminals in the game but I think you are trying to troll.

Yep, you are a troll.

What? I'm playing SWAT 4: Chekov Syndicate right now, and the missions so far have been about rednecks trying to blow up a government building and religious nuts assaulting a rock venue.

If anything, SWAT 4 is quite balanced in its portrayal of potential threats.

Hmm, I should stop feeding the trolls. On-topic: is the demo representative of the actual gameplay? The demo was fun until I died - when I reloaded the action followed the EXACT same sequence which kind of destroyed my suspension of disbelief.

I'm not talking about expansions here. They can be completely different and made by completely different people as we saw in Queens Gambit where the royal family suddenly turned out to be "good" guys.

He might be white (I'm not 100% about that), but the enemies are foreigners still.

Just face the facts b0b, US is shit. Their mud is all over the world. I wouldn't defend that crap for anything in the world. Neither should you.

The game play will be a little bit slower later in the game, like the "snipers in chernobyl" mission... And then it goes mayhem.

I might add that the story and cinematic parts of the game are in my opinion a good reason to get the game. The demo doesn't really show anything of that though. (I know, Hollywood BS according to some).

There are enough politics threads for those of you that really have to, to whine and bitch and complain and drag down and criticise all the countries and all the politicians and all the people you feel the need to, please don't do it in game threads, games are what we play to escape from all the crap that goes on in the world, please don't spoil that fun, or, or, or we'll complain to Jack Thompson then you're all screwed!

COD4 is just a game.

Believe it or not, it is pretty good, and I am gonna play it until Crysis has a better performance. Right now, it is lag....lag....lag..... The guns also seem more powerful than average FPS games.

cod4 is big fun. i played the demo once and i was convinced that i need that game. im finished it now, and it was really good. going threw

veteran mode now. not easy.

indeed a great game (when you into roundbased stuff). but the propaganda level of it is insane, i mean honestly, thats pure kgb/cold war world view with a good portion paranoia. great example if a "west" guy wants to know what they told them in the "east" during cold war. it really has educational character in this point.

Timeshift? I got that game recently, expecting it to be pretty average. But it's actually very good! Play it yourself and you might be surprised. The game was not much like what I expected after playing the demo from ages ago. And unlike COD, it's more original and it's actually challenging tounge2.gif

smile_o.gif

As for COD 4: I played the demo recently. Seems ok, plays and feels exactly the same as COD 2. But it's only 6 hours. Not worth full price to me.

If you are talking about SWAT 4, I think you have to use older drivers to fix the problem.

Yea, I was talking about Timeshift. The game isn't that challenging because I was able to beat it on Elite difficulty. It was so average to me..... whistle.gif

LOL. Well I haven't played similar FPS games in a while, so I did find a couple parts hard. At least the idea is kinda original. Although I finished in in a few days and uninstalled it, so it's got the usual short lifespan that makes me feel ripped off whenever I buy some highly rated FPS game icon_rolleyes.gif
