ATI Catalyst 7.3 beta

Recommended Posts

For all these who think they plagued by problems with 7.x ATI drivers ...

there is available beta of ATI Catalyst 7.3 (8.351) drivers

(more likely these are ASUS OEM 7.3)

100MB w2k, wXP 32, wXP 64

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/vga/ATI/ati8351_xp3264.zip

120MB Vista 32/64

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/vga/ATI/ati8351_Vista3264.zip

IMHO after installing them ArmA seems to be way smoother, several FPS gains and less crashes  wink_o.gif

Connection times out with those links.. Any other links to these drivers? Or could you upload them to a free site?

Thanks for the links btw.

Seems to download alright for me. 11 kB/s slow, though. I can't wait to try them out.

I successfully downloaded them from that ftp site without it booting me out.

For my x850 ce's, I see no appreciable change in graphics speed or quality over 6.7. It does not cause any interruptions in overclocking (sometimes when you update drivers, the cards get more efficient therefore you have to watch out for artifacts and step down o/c'ing accordingly). The only change I note is that ArmA nolonger crashes with crossfire enabled, however, enabling crossfire has no appreciable difference in performance in any way shape or form (it was a lot of excitement followed by kind of a bummer). This would hint that arma is still not using crossfire but I don't know if that is game or drivers related.

Do you force AFR by setting Catalyst AI to 'Advanced'? That can help crossfire users alot.

Just updated to 7.3 on an X1950Pro 512MB and I'm experiencing problems with shadow detail. Shadows are stepped/pixellated - even on non-grass surfaces and walls - rather than smooth & diffuse. This occurred with original 'High' shadows setting and is still there on 'Very High'. Anyone else?

very well, half of the job is going to be done

now we wait for the other half: bis have to review the game code, that is very very very far to be properly debugged

WE WANT THE 1.06 !!!!!  confused_o.gif

I would say they are definitely worth trying for the x1xxx users who cannot use the older drivers. I have not tried to play at any length so I do not know if the memory handle leak is still present but at least they are initially no slower than 6.7. Those who are forced to suffer the memory handle leak have nothing to lose.

I've tried now with crossfire on and off with FEAR and Splintercell3 exe names. No combination changes the framerate, although I'm seeing a slight increase (maybe 5 frames max in some scenes) in performance all around with the new drivers- nothing that can be attributed to CF tho.

I just tried armamark and I get a lot of variability in the scores running at the same settings but none of that can be attributed to Crossfire. For the armamark tests I was using splintercell3.exe

Hi all

I think in all probability that Crossfire would not improve speed much but the extra memory and shaders of the second card might allow you to increase your view distance and maybe image quality without as much of a performance hit.

It may be worth testing.

Kind Regards walker

these drivers screwed up my shadows and gave me artifacts.... reverting back to 6.7 until something officials released

If someone from the BIS could answer did ATI say they would address the memory handle leak in the next drivers?

It's very fustraighting for us that have these high end/high dollar ATI video cards and have to use this bandaid fix and not have the use of the full potential of the card.

I guess what I am wondering is, is ATI in direct communication with BIS because of the problem?

i think it will be best that AMD.ATI made their own CROSSFIRE profile for ArmA ... so keep bombarding them via customer service smile_o.gif

it seemed to solve the computer crashing to desktop and restarting all together for me as i was actually able to complete the first mission for the first time today. YAY ME! however it did do a GPU blue screen when i exited the game. Im going back to 7.2 until its a official update. as the 6.7 one didnt seem to work for me.

it seem these drivers solve the handle leak.

i launch armamark , and handle count never go higher than 9200.

it was nearly 15K with 7.2.

9200 handles open simultaneuously is still too much. Normal handle usage should be (and with 6.7 driver is) around 200 - 400.

at boot , my total handle load is 8700...

with arma launched and running armamark , it's 9200.

so , handle leak seem resolved.

Hi,

I think Suma is talking about the handles of ArmA, not the total amount of all handles that are running on your system.

Go to task-manager -> View -> Choose columns, and add the column "Handles".

Sorry if the exact values are a bit different, im german, so i translated the menus a bit freely.
