I'm sorry to hear that you're abandoning your projects. Will you be making your superb work in progress models available for other people to finish?

I regret disappointing anyone, but a combination of factors

has forced abandonment of the project:

My personal circumstances have changed and I no longer

have much time to devote to the considerable amount of

work necessary for modelling and (particularly) for acquiring

the skills required to finish the addons to a high standard.

I have become very disillusioned by the many deficiencies in

the ArmA game and have lost interest in making content for

it. I no longer have it, or any of the tools, installed on any of

my PCs.

As mentioned elsewhere, I have been inspired by "MehMan's" work and by some of the new tutorial material to have another try at making some things. I have started a new modern British infantry model and some new weapons. It is not very likely that these will be good enough for general release but I may eventually offer them to those who have expressed interest on this thread.

Being completely honest, I'll download this stuff even if you texture it in Microsoft paint. Theres no need to worry about interest from people, these are awesome mods before they are even finnished. biggrin_o.gif

Maybe you should type in English yourself. Basically Stewy is saying that these addons are good.

For now I intend to concentrate only on the stuff

described below. The intention is to represent elements

of a basic British infantry platoon in "temperate"

combat dress with kit as used from the 1960s to the

1980s in the real world timeline. I think ArmA supports

this level of military technology better, and it has

more of a personal interest.

Despite rekindling my interest, I have still had

to curtail my plans considerably and temper my

enthusiasm. I don't have the same time to spare

any more, and making content for ArmA is much

more involved than it was for Op. Flashpoint(and

I'm not a skilled 3D artist). I'm just doing this

for myself now - I don't have any real intention

to release stuff to the "community" any more since

the quality probably won't be very high (but if

anyone really wants any of it when it's done then

they can have it - although I doubt the subject

matter will have much appeal).

Weapons

========

1. SLR (3 furniture types with proper optics and

customizations - my new models for these are coming

along quite well; better than before. Even the half

finished model is great fun to play with in ArmA already.

Those stupid SLAgs never knew what hit them!wink_o.gif

2. LMG (already rebuilt a large part of it. Yes, even

in the ArmA-verse H.M Govt is skint and has to keep

old 1940s relics like this in service.)

3. 84mm Inf. A/Tk gun (with British optical sights

- I lost/trashed/deleted most of my original model

of this so it has to be redone from scratch. I dusted

off my old Carl Gustav manual. This includes detailed

dimensions (even data like the precise angle of the

venturi cone) so the finished model will be precise

(though I can't imagine what it'll look like when an

ArmA guy tries to hold it in his banana hands like

it's the inside of a toilet roll).

4. No. 9 automatic rifle (As a fantasy indulgence

for the 1960s. I recently got some cracking pics of

this from the USA so this'll be a nice, detailed

model)

I painted the new optics and sights views in the

1.1 release of the Falklands OFP mod (as "Jimpy").

I don't think I can improve very much on what I

did there, so I'll revamp those (assuming they're

happy with that) and save a bit more time there.

I'll try to config them a bit more carefully, though,

so the optical sights work more like the real things.

Image9.jpg

That's all. No silenced James Bond guns, rockets,

mortars or sniper rifles (for now anyway). No

Smudges either (they don't fit very well in the

ArmA boys' hands and they were mostly carried by

ossifers, scaleys, REMFs and donkey-wallopers -

and I lost the old model I made of it, anyway).

And no 9 milli pistols.

I may need to do a proper British GPMG (light and

SF role) if none exists by the time this lot is

finished - but that should be a reasonably simple

conversion from the BIS M240B gun. I'll add a 1980s

IWS and bracket onto it for extra cool. Someone is

likely to have made decent 66 rockets in the meantime

too.

Soldiers

========

I'm doing three (or four) figure types only, as follows.

These are all simple adaptations of the same basic model,

which should lighten the workload quite a bit. I'll

make two skins for each, which will cover 1960 to the first

half of the 1980s. These are men of a Scottish infantry

regiment of the British Army

(The Gordon Highlanders) ie. no special-forces-delta-

marine-paratrooper-killer-mercenary-ninja-commandos

(for a change).

1. Infantryman in CEFO, steel turtle helmet, pers. cam.

(I may make some variations in the kit worn. For example

here is the "cape carrier" (aka "bumroll") worn bungeed

to the yoke straps above the kidney pouches (temporary

colours):

cefo.jpg

2. Infantryman in light patrol order (no webbing, c*nt

cap, SLR mags in bulging smock pockets)

3. Infantryman in CEFO, steel helmet, and NBC suit (dress

cat 3 or 4) [i'll do cat 4R if a "put-on-able" face-welly

is technically possible in the engine and if any scripting

genius simulates NBC agents in the game.]

After these are done properly I also want to do this

jock in CEFO (or CEMO) with his Tam O'Shanter bonnet on.

Some bits have gone a bit shit in this model rendering

- it's a W.I.P. anyway. The anatomy of the torso is a bit

off and the jacket has no collar yet:

Showing the current state of the new Spearhead soldier

models:

newnew4.jpg

newnew2.jpg

newnew1.jpg

newnew3.jpg

These represent British line infantry in fighting order

from the early 1960s until about 1985 (ie. in the real

world up until just before the first issue of the SA80 -

which rifle I absolutely do not intend to make a model

of). I shall leave off describing them in detail until the

addons are a bit more advanced. All are still in the

process of being refined and corrected. They obviously

still have bugs in some places.

In addition to the four shown here I am also doing a man

without webbing and have also decided to do another wearing

an American M-1969 frag vest (as used in NI in the 70s

and early 80s), so I can use him for basic 1970s-style

"internal security" missions.

The models started out as the BIS example soldier, but now

really only the legs (more or less modified), boot uppers

and hands and heads are still BIS.

Some of the detail on these models I will attempt to replace

with normal mappings as work proceeds (eg. the map pocket

flaps on the trousers are not needed on a model like this),

although even in this state they are not particularly

high-poly (they use fewer polys than many of the BIS model

soldiers)

Work also continues on improving the new weapon models. A

few examples are shown here:

newnew6.jpg

newnew9.jpg

newnew8.jpg

newnew7.jpg

I have succeeded in animating the slide/bolt carrier on the

SLR and the effect in-game, combined with a carefully

designed recoil is impressively realistic (the inflexible

"ArmA M16 hold" is a major disappointment, though).

I have also built some new optical sight units; the L1A2 IWS

image intensifying sight and SUIT illuminated optical sight.

I've made both the early and later issue variants of the

SUIT (L2A1 and L2A2 - different controls, different mounts,

different details of lens tube and eyecup, etc). I also want

to make the sight units adjustable in-game, but I need to

research the feasibility of this in the game a bit more.

I intend that some of the detail seen here will be used to

make normal maps (the MG flash hiders and the detail on the

magazines, for examples, seem to cry out for this treatment).

All of the weapon models are built from scratch except the

GPMG. The BIS M240 model served as a base, but required a

lot of modification to properly represent a British gun. The

furniture, sights, bipod, top cover and so on were re-built

from scratch and I may yet add a field expedient bag to hold

the link (in those days made out of a '44 or '58 waterbottle

carrier hooked onto the feed tray. There was a box available

then too but it was disliked and seldom used).
