Chris Death 0 Posted November 30, 2006 Well, i put the CD into the drive and nothing happens. Opening explorer and clicking onto cd drive returns nothing and explorer can only be closed by terminating it. A reboot of the pc with the ArmA disk in drive didn't even work - after taking it out pc boots up. I have a Sony DVD RW DW-G121A CD RAM drive. PC is a Microstart 3.4 ghz with 2 gb ram with a geforce 7500le (512mb) - bought especially for ArmA. I tried installing the game on an older pc (3 ghz - 1gb ram with an geforce fx 5600 256mb) and there it works, but it's no fun playing on this pc because of the performance. I've read lately about Securom and that lots of people having installation problems with programs using Securom in combination with a ram dvd or cd drive. I really hope that ArmA will become playable for me since i've been waiting a long time for that game to get released (like everybody here did). It's a stupid feeling buying a new pc for a soon to be released game and then buying that game and not getting it to work. I'll be not available for the next 6 days so if you need some more input from me for a solution (hopefully there is one) i can do next wednsday - looking forward for any solution. ~S~ CD
Sniperwolf572 758 Posted November 30, 2006 Try swapping out DVD drives, I had that issue with my old DVD drive with some specific DVD's. If it works after swapping, you have a faulty DVD drive.
maatz 1 Posted November 30, 2006 I just got my copy today from my dealer here in germany and i tried to install it, but my DVD drive doesn't find a DVD. Even if it's in. I put another DVD in, and it worked, but with the ArmA DVD there happens nothing. It says that the DVD is empty. I got a LG Drive GSA-4081B I need help! Thanks! Placebo 29 Posted November 30, 2006 If the game won't install try setting the DVD's region code to 2. Checking the instruction manual or manufacturers website for your DVD should tell you how to make such a change. Obviously only people who cannot install or have the DVD recognised need to do this. maatz 1 Posted November 30, 2006 hm, i got the Region code set to 2. that was a deafult setting my specs are: CPU: Intel Pentium 2.40GhZ; 1Gb Ram; Sapphire Ati Radeon 9800 Pro; Windows XP Professional + SP2; Direct X9; No Daemon Tools; DVD Drive: LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GAS-4081B, "Driver" (in german Treiber) A100; I also tried the newer one, i think it is, A101 I'll take a look into the manual, as you said Placebo, thanks
fubarno1 0 Posted November 30, 2006 Also check that you have the most recent firmware for your CD/DVD drive (these should be available via the drive Manufacturer) I had the exact same problem with a free DVD that came with a mag, it would not recognise that the disk was in the drive, but after I upgraded the firmware in the drive (pioneer 104) it would see the DVD. maatz 1 Posted November 30, 2006 mow I do have A100 as firmware installed. I tried it with A101, which was the latest I could find, but still the same problem, so i switched back to A100 with the windows "reset function"
fubarno1 0 Posted November 30, 2006 For LG Drive owners there is a tool that you can download and it will check if there is a better firmware available for your drive, although it does not support all LG drives i think it covers most of the common ones in use today. I put another DVD in, and it worked, but with the ArmA DVD there happens nothing. It says that the DVD is empty.I got a LG Drive GSA-4081B I need help! Thanks! maatz 1 Posted December 1, 2006 well i just got a new DVD drive for ArmA now, and it works, so it seems there was something fucked up witht the drive itself... thanks for the help guys!
Tigershark_BAS 0 Posted December 1, 2006 Gald to hear it Maatz. My DVD has fucntioned perfectly (and does with other discs) until ArmA came along. I hope it's not the drive. Would burning a copy of the disc onto a new DVD which I know works in my drive help at all? Or does the copy protection prevent that?
Tigershark_BAS 0 Posted December 1, 2006 OK lads. After updating my DVD firmware everything worked fine. Installing now and then patching before launch. I would recommend a firmware upgrade as per Placebo's suggestion if you are having trouble reading the disc. Tiger out.
Chris Death 0 Posted December 6, 2006 Well, back from my 6 days absence i could see this thread made some progress. Unfortunately nothing yet could help in my case. I've set the region code to '2' - no change. I've updated firmware from HSY2 to HSY3 - no change. Updating firmware to the latest i could find: HSY5 didn't help either. Now the last step i can make tomorow -> swapping the DVD drive. I bought the PC in october so i'll have to return it to the dealer and wait for them to send it to the manufacturer and back of the waranty. hmm - i think i can tell more in about 3 or 4 weeks. The only thing i maybe can find out tomorow is: does the CD work with an equal pc (if he still got one) with same configuration. ~S~ CD
Chris Death 0 Posted December 6, 2006 OK, i just changed the CD-drive on my own - took a normal DVD ROM drive from an older pc - replaced the DVD RAM with it and installation was a success. I will still have to return my pc to the retailer but not for now since there's a new game been released which i must explore from dusk 'till dawn at the mo. Well, now i must say i'm little bit disapointed by the performance question but this belongs into other threads and will hopefully be solved after a while, since my system specs should provide more than a feeling like ofp on very high settings whatever system was running it. I still have to learn loving this game but as i said - this is just on a sidenote and should be discussed in other threads. ~S~ CD
stigern 0 Posted December 16, 2006 We have same problem here, tried updating a www.drvupdate.com, it was a label at the front of the dvdbay. And still no sign of improvement. It just freezes when I click on the dvddrive in windows. And when its taken out, the computer un-freeze. Damn crap dvd.
KyleEasterly 0 Posted December 26, 2006 Stigern: Do you have a Dynex (or manufactured by BTC) drive? I did the drvupdate liveupdate program, set region to 2, and nothing happened. I'll probably have to go purchase another DVD drive for this to work (German DVD version that a friend brought back from Germany for me.) To anyone who has the German DVD working, what brand and model of DVD drive do you have, so that I know which one(s) are safe to get? Thanks! -Kyle
