j w 0 Posted October 26, 2006 I'd like to start a martial arts thread so people can discuss this sport. I'm gonna start with presenting the visit of Soke Yoshimi Inoue wich Swedish Inoue-Ha Shito Ryu Keishin-Kai had last weekend. Soke Yoshimi Inoue is one of the most merited (sp?) karate-practicers in the world. He was first an apprentice of Soke Teruo Hayashi, who led Hayashi-Ha Shito Ruy Kai, but after his tragic past away 2004, Inoue took over as Soke and created his own style, Inoue-Ha. So, some info about the International Camp last weekend. One of the most merited karate-practicers Yoshimi Inoue came to Sweden, to lead the international camp of his own style. He focused on teaching us the new technics from his style, for all people to adapt to the new way of karate. The international camp was visited by almost 140 people! Here are some images from the camp; All of us Inoue (right, standing) is teaching the group, whilst Sensei Per-Ola Olsson (left, standing) is watching. Showing the correct techniqe of a yukouke. Lineup With help from Vanessa Gutierrez, Inoue demonstrates a correct zenkutsudachi. Everyone is doing the kata: Pinan Nidan Well, that's my post, feel free to ask about martial arts, I'll try to help you with my knowledge in karate, and anyone else if ofcourse free to help with knowledge in other martial arts. With regards JW

og.. 0 Posted October 28, 2006 Most likely the most important post in this thread. You should ALL check out these videos.... and I hope it gets to some of you. http://video.google.com/videopl....+action http://video.google.com/videopl....llshido Listen close to what "Bill Fitzpatrick" says in the vid below, his ridicolous conclusion is what traditional martial arts is really about: pretense intimidation. http://video.google.com/videopl....llshido http://video.google.com/videopl....llshido http://video.google.com/videopl....llshido On the most important aspect of "Aliveness": http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2068450760833041053 a bit long but it addresses again the bs of traditional martial arts and the importance of aliveness: http://video.google.com/videopl....hornton and this site. http://www.bullshido.com/ It goes into detail about what is wrong with traditional martial arts. If you are starting out at least get into something where you can practice on real resisting opponents and not just punching air and sucking up to old asian rituals. And no... no specific martial art is going to help you out with multiple opponents. There is ALOT of BS out there. Much like how religious authorities have kept people believing in ghosts for few thousand years. The traditional sensei have the same effect on many many people. Sad, but at the same time amusing. Finally, this video is not about martial arts, but about skepticism in general. I hope you see why I put it in here. Its pretty long but entertaining and enlightening. http://video.google.com/videopl....s+randi
Messiah 2 Posted October 28, 2006 i understand the concepts and the idealism behind martial arts... but it all just reminds me of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O8c0Esu5WY although its obviously satirical, it strikes home a few truths i think
868 0 Posted October 28, 2006 Nice find. Quite funny I'm calling this the 'Mob-do', or better yet 'Onetoomanypints-do'

stainer 0 Posted October 28, 2006 @Messiah, that's a great video, was pissing ymself by the end! Personally, I don't give a damn about the tradition behind martial arts, for me it's just a way of keeping fit and having some fun.
Messiah 2 Posted October 28, 2006 for me it's just a way of keeping fit and having some fun. undeniably thats one of the best reasons to do it... and also it teaches an amazing amount of discpline, both of the mind and of the body (how corny does that sound?) but as oneoff said, I too subscribe to the you looking at my girlfriend-do style... it works
868 0 Posted October 28, 2006 but as oneoff said, I too subscribe to the you looking at my girlfriend-do style... it works I usually try the more subtle approach. Stare them in the eye directly until they get the point. Usually works for me.
GoOB 0 Posted October 28, 2006 I once smacked a guy on the head very stylishly, and then I fell into a river... Does that count as martial arts? It was very efficient as my opponent did not have the ability to strike back.
