bravo 6 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Would be nice to know community's opinion on the sounds we heared so far about ARMA (in all aspects). I'll use this post from other thread. OK, BF2 AK74 & M4A1 *.rar ~450kb If someone have more examples to add as a suggestion don't be shy. Ps- hope this thread survive in order to call BIS attention and help to improve Armed Assault sound effects, if not.. ah crap.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted June 11, 2006 Well, the OFPE AK sound was better IMO, but i always hated the BIS m16 sounds
martinovic 0 Posted June 11, 2006 The games Men of Valor and americas army bth prided themselves on accurate weapon sounds and i have to confirm that in both games the akm sounded very very similiar to each other, so i think that both are accurate, try them out. anyways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMfy-NuVnrs
Balschoiw 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Do you honestly think that BIS will revert the sounds they have and go to the audio lab again at this point of developement ? Sound effect and sound engine suggestions have been adressed a lot here in the forums and with a background of bad feedback on Elite sounds, I´m confident that BIS will be focussed. Anyway, better than another "I want a demo" thread....
bravo 6 0 Posted June 11, 2006 nope, i just hope for better sounds then the ones i heared in the videos. Oh well, what if BIS only take 1 more month to improve those sounds? a month is nothing... could we wait 1 more month?... I would only say it late to improve/suggest ArmA when we seen ArmA released. Anyway, if mods feel this thread is pointless, feel free to burn it down and do what ever they want.
simba 0 Posted June 11, 2006 BF2 realism mod the ak sounds of this mod are very impressive, BIS has never been good to make sounds but with the audio engine improvements who knows .
Tostitos 0 Posted June 11, 2006 I just hope the sounds aren't like in Soldner.. pathetic. What's worse is that when I explored the pak files, I found a series of AK-47 sounds that were the closest thing I've heard on a computer next to my own experiences at the range. They never implimented it.. Ghost Recon 1, Battlefield 2, and America's Army all have enough perfect sounds that we can pillage for a soundmod if it isn't good enough normally. I especially like the m203 sounds of GR1, nothing like being in a stone building / tower and hearing a grenade burst off the side..
SHWiiNG 0 Posted June 11, 2006 hmm, i prefer the sounds on CS:S crisp and clear
Tostitos 0 Posted June 11, 2006 I will put up a collection of gunshot sounds I have ripped from various sources, some people might like some of them. Including the best ak-47 sound ever.
Victor_S. 0 Posted June 11, 2006 well if the sounds are bad there wil be a sound mod out in no time.
Talyn 33 Posted June 11, 2006 I always liked the ECP dynamic range sounds, especially when you heard the sound of a tank shell wiz past. That gave me the shivers.
Tostitos 0 Posted June 12, 2006 It would be cool if AA or Game2 can have something like in Trespasser: Real Time Foley. Basically it would have the basic gunshot and would modify it to sound differently at range, indoors, outdoors, etc. People would hear what they would realistically hear, different people hearing different things from the same shot. Same with modelling the supersonic crack of the bullet and the gunshot as seperate parts.
meyamoti 0 Posted June 12, 2006 If anything I figure what you mentioned would be in Game2 Tostitos Besides,we all know the community if more than capable of changing sounds if they do not sound good enough.
Guest Ti0n3r Posted June 15, 2006 Here's another example. It's a ~200kb wav recording of the M4A1 that comes with the Grom 1.5 addon. That's without doubt the best M4 sound I've heard so far.
Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted June 15, 2006 In my experience, it would be better to spend that month working on gameplay, A.I., special effects, etc. Sound effects are an exercise in aesthetics. Hearers are not grateful when given authentic sounds. Too many want "kewl" sounds. Better to leave it up to the user-community. The Avon Lady's project that allowed users to swap out sound effects seemed like a good idea.
Commando84 0 Posted July 24, 2006 I know ofp resistance had sounds when closing doors but it would be cool with a sound fx when opening doors or closeing doors, or like if a wind or explosion blast would grab the door and make it move maybe, like a dfark night and you can hear the door goo kiiieee.... when the wind makes it open up a little.. Scrub 0 Posted July 24, 2006 That sounds like a scripting thingy.. It WOULD be neat to have triggers in a burned out house that make the floor creak and such. Imagine sneaking around and hearing all these noises when you move... Then you hear one while you're standing still!! Neat idea you have there!

We already have a plethora of sounds from OFP mods, and since ArmA is stated to be compatible with OFP mods, if you want a good sound, simply take one from OFP. We have plenty of good ones. I don't want to waste a month for something we already have.
simulacra 0 Posted July 25, 2006 The soundscape is MORE than just the sample of the actual object, there's a TON of things that sound off in ofp, för example the wierd levels of mixing for panting and breathing, hearing reverbation of your footsteps when on open ground, hearing helicopters starting up even tho there are mountains in the way, sound engine not being able to handle automatic fire without clipping the sample in half etc etc etc... Many things are off in OFP sound wise, and no amount of user created sound samples will ever fix that. I rather see bis cheat their way to better sound than to risk much by maing an advanced sound engine.

SHWiiNG 0 Posted July 25, 2006 i Would have thought standard sounds will include, muffled Weapon fireing sounds depending on your environment eg in forrest, (consult Band of Brothers, Bastogne for a great example ) and the WooOOOOoooosh of Arty and mortor shells wizzing over your heads (again consult Band Of Brothers, Day of Days ) them sounds can add Huge ammounts of atmosphere and realism
