great stuff man!! i guess will give a try on island making with this tutorial. i work with max 7.0 for modeling/texturizing at the moment. i cant install version 8.0 until i finish a college project i'm involved (my mates using version 7.0 to...), but i'll try it when i'm free.

Few rant-ish, constructive-critisism-ish points :

I think using Combustion for the tutorial was a bad idea, it's completely overkill for this, Paint would have done just as good a job tounge2.gif

Paint Shop Pro/Photoshop would be a far better bet (also a lot cheaper if I recall properly, isn't Combustion sold for Å2000~ icon_rolleyes.gif ), as you would have stuff like burn, brushes, noise, more blur options etc (Only played around with Combustion for an hour or two, and disliked how it worked, so can't really say of those things were in it)

Also, you missed the bit that I found hard when playing around with island making, which was placing objects (buildings and fences and the likes..), same with acctualy getting the thing in-game (Even if you just provided a sample config, and a paragraph on what to change, and how to PBO it), also possibly missed is sorting terrain height, since the terrain will start at 0 height, where it should be under water (I can't remeber how it works, the water may start higher up, can't remeber to be honest)

It's a good start, but seems kinda incomplete? Still, it's one of the few island creation tutorials I've seen, and is something that's really needed smile_o.gif

3DS MAX and Combustion are more compatible since both programs are made by Discreet wink_o.gif

I used Photoshop (Elati Island) to create heightmap and then used Kegetys TGA2ASE tool for an .ASE file output to load into Visitor2 which for me is a bit easier.

But nice tutorial and very clear smile_o.gif .

that should work with 3dsmax 7 too. the differences between the 7 and the 8 aren't big wink_o.gif
