The-Architect 0 Posted April 11, 2006 After a long period where people said that it was impossible to remove the cone of light on Flashpoint models, it has been done. The cone it's self may well be hard coded but the texture that goes over it isn't. Here is a pack that let's you remove the cone and also get rid of the flare star around lights and flares. Pics. The Problem. The Solution. The .Zip. A mirror of just the file would be much appreciated. http://s56.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=16YFC5OU3MW3R2S9KAYO1HKLXX Credits in the readme. DVD 0 Posted April 12, 2006 This kind of Mods should be a part of an patch by BI ..
USSRsniper 0 Posted April 12, 2006 When i downloaded this i though why not combine it with sky replacement mod..... wtihout moving any files is to extract data.pbo from sky replacement mod.. paste these textures and pack the data back to .pbo. This way its easier to remove this fix when you want, just by using modfolder. Nice mod! Finally we don't have crappy cone lights and flare stars!

The-Architect 0 Posted April 12, 2006 Nice job all. Congrats to you. I put you in the readme if that's ok. About the sky. I wasn't sure because all that was done with a install.bat or whatever it is. I didn't want to foul up my nice sky. However if you guys say it works I'll do it to mine right away.
456820 0 Posted April 12, 2006 just noticed something the cone shape still appears on lights in towns or atleast goto Saint Pierre on Everon the light at the top of the hill gives off a cone shape. You may of misses a file but all apart from that it works great no cones coming off nvgs no start shapes or a cone coming off choppers. There you go a pic aswell. But everything else seems to be fine. Good work to all involved.
The-Architect 0 Posted April 12, 2006 Well spotted 456820. I had a quick butchers and it seems that every lampost has this. It looks to be a different type of cone. I'll look into it after dinner sometime. It'll be some file which has _svetla in it I'll bet.
456820 0 Posted April 12, 2006 no big worrys cause the cone has definately been reduced if you stand underneath it, you cant see the cone must be 2 textures one for bottom and one for top maybe and you must of only get one of them?
wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted April 12, 2006 Nice job all. Congrats to you. I put you in the readme if that's ok. About the sky. I wasn't sure because all that was done with a install.bat or whatever it is. I didn't want to foul up my nice sky. However if you guys say it works I'll do it to mine right away. it doesn't matter .. you only have to edit the install.bat if you wanna replace models in data3d.pbo you can just put the replacement textures in the newdata folder and reinstall your skymod it saves a whole load of hassle 1. in yer skymod folder delete the data folder(dont need to but just to be sure) 2. put these replacement textures in the newdata folder 3. run the install.bat 4. run your game with your skymod -mod=blahblahsky;

456820 0 Posted April 12, 2006 Is it me or do OFP Lights seem less powerfull now? They dont seem to quite light up the area then it used to but its a small price to pay much worth it.
alexx_ 0 Posted April 12, 2006 no... they don't. imagine that cone of light is just a white filter over. and your eyes are tricked
action man 0 Posted April 12, 2006 The Problem. Please don't take this the wrong way! I havn't even tried this light mod to see the diference for myself. It's just that the other night their was this police documentary that showed footage of a helicopter with a searchlight on that looked exactly like the pic of the helicopter in the first post. Now the helicopter in the first post look's realistic to me! Edit = what's the problem with the cone of light coming from the helicopter?
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted April 13, 2006 The fact that it stops suddenly, rather than tapering out, is causing all the hassles. It looks shoddy, put simply. Look at that perfect sphere at the end of the cone - what the? IMHO, these adjustments make it great. I have discovered one problem though, the SPM Urals - you can no longer see their headlights once the cone is removed - though isn't due to this modification, it's due to the addon itself. the_shadow 0 Posted April 13, 2006 i instantly got a CTD using these effects.... placed a BIS BRDM on a road and let it coming fast at me.... i never even saw it, i just turned in the direction it was coming from and the game crashed.... maybe i should state that i used it in modulsky :P

The-Architect 0 Posted April 13, 2006 You sure you did it right shadow? There shouldn't really be any issues as long as you did everything right. Of course like I said earlier, I didn't test with any sky mods so it may be that. Perhaps the BRDM exceeded 88mph and the flux capacitor kicked in, thus sending the BRDM back in time. Obviously mortal PCs can't handle time travel and yours CTD'd. @Alexx Sorry I didn't mention you by name. I couldn't find the post you made. I knew you'd done it but I couldn't remember your name. Unfortunately I'm not going to resubmit the file everywhere with just onechange to the readme. I could but it'd be silly to expect everywhere to accept a new file just with that changed. What's already in the readme, "Thanks go to all the BI Forums people who's names are not mentioned here. I'm not sure who did all the work on the Flare00 file but thanks." will have to suffice I'm afraid. Everyone who read the original thread and everyone who reads this thread will know it's your work on the Flare00 file. Also you can be contented knowing it's you I was talking about. About the Police searchlight. That would be an effect caused by particles in the air. Mist, fog, rain, dust even. Normally light makes no visible differemce. Otherwise it wouldn't work. alexx_ 0 Posted April 13, 2006 I said i am kidding . don't worry, i don't care actually. That "modification" took me 10 minutes (including search for a right file), so it is not a big deal!
