jtec 0 Posted February 12, 2006 Secret of monkey island was brilliant at that time. There was this other game that i cant remember the name but it was brilliant, it was set in the future and you had a robot with you that you had to build, think the bloke had no memory or something (bit like me at the mo)

chris330 0 Posted February 12, 2006 F19 stealth figher manual atm, amazing how they are so big and detailed, compared to modern shite  Totally agree. They was so much really good instructions in that about how to land properly and how to avoid radar and stuff. I've got an original copy of that too. That was one of my favourite flight sims. Didn't fancy landing on carriers much though. **Edit, never played Beneath a Steel Sky, but apparently it was very good. Nice link you found there
jtec 0 Posted February 12, 2006 Was reading a topic bout the old flight sim manuals. Really is sad how much effort is put into the finished projects now. Saying that times have changed and games are no longer for fun but for profit Only bad thing bout beneath a steel sky was the 12 disks that came with it were constantly loading, was well ahead of the times tho. mr burns 132 Posted February 13, 2006 )rStrangelove @ Feb. 12 2006,22:15)]My Amiga originals: <click 'ere>> (211k) Nice collection of "flusis" you´ve got there, just Fighter Bomber seems to be missing..i always liked that too. I´ve opened a similar thread over at our german forums some time ago because looking at an old gamebox brought back some good memories. The only game i can still find is Gunship for C64, but that one is complete with all the stuff it came with appr. 20 years ago *yay* North & South !!!1 (against my neighbor) North sea inferno Elvira Wing Wings of Fury Wing Commander some funny demos aswell.. and finally dirty moves (played via mouse ) I´ll never forget the fun it was back then playing these games.. and you didn´t even had to upgrade your rig all the time, rather programmers had to be more smart than nowadays in order to achieve new sfx. jtec 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Just played beneath a steel sky as it is now freeware from revolution. Really reminds me of my young teen days ahhhhhh. Simon the sorcerer on there too among other games. Wicked
sputnik monroe 102 Posted February 13, 2006 Good times. I didn't have an Amigia I had a Tandy1000 and eventually a 486, yet I had many of the games mentioned. Â On our Tandy1000 I had Defender of the Crown, Battlehawks 1942 (ran really, really bad), Leisure Suite Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, 688 attack sub, Wolfpack and the original Falcon. Â Also had three games by a company called Accolade. They were Mosquito, The original Test Drive and a Grand prix game. All three of which where only in four colors; magenta, cyan, white, and black. Falcon was that way also.Defender of the crown was only in green, red, yellow, and orange. I think it was called EGA or CGA graphics, long before VGA. I also had two D&D games, Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds. Â Eventually I had a 486, on that I had Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (third and last WWII flight sim by Lucasfilm), F15 Strike Eagle III (by Microprose, boy I miss them), Red Baron, Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe, Kings Quest V (my first CD rom game! ) Syndicate, (I didn't have the instructions and I could never figure the game out) plus a few more. Â I so miss the atmosphere of the old games. Games any more have no soul they are so empty. I truly miss instruction manuals.
shadow 6 Posted February 13, 2006 I never had an Amiga but my neighbour had one (I had a C64). I think I spent just as many hours on his Amiga as I did on my C64 and my all-time favourite game was available on both machines. I can't believe any of you have'nt mentioned the Last Ninja-series. My fav was Last Ninja II, but the 1st and 3rd was also well made but not quite as good as the 2nd I think.
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Had a C64 as well... good 'ol times
Tigershark_BAS 0 Posted February 13, 2006 My favourite game was one which you controlled a helicopter and if you had a buddy he could control a jeep on the ground. It was a side scroller type game...can't remember the name :-( I also like FA-18 interceptor and a game called Z from the Bitmap Brothers.....and another Rollerball type game from the Bitmap Brothers. sputnik monroe 102 Posted February 13, 2006 Yeah I remember Silk Worm, though I played it in the arcade. As for the last ninja, I actually had the first one but on my NES. It was an interesting game, though I'm quite sure it was way better on the Amiga or PC than the console port.
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Never played it on Amiga, but The Last Ninja rocked on C64 thats for sure. Really enjoyed engaging those samurai in the temple gardens, blocking their attacks, killing 1 of them and make the remaining one do harakiri because he couldn't stand the shame. Â Back to Amiga: one of those conversions i really didn't like was ELITE on Amiga. Apart from the disgusting colorful look (B/W on C64 looked more 'realistic' if you can say that) it was fairly too easy, too. Ok, the explosions sounded nice but that was it. Talking about explosions: anyone remember the tank game FIREPOWER ? You had to get into heavily defended fortresses and free something or somebody (can't remember). Sometimes it took 2 hours to get thru 300 autoturrets and minefields. Eventually i discovered the maps were in ascii code. By comparing the maps ingame with the code i figured out what each character would produce and wrote down my own creation - took some hours.
jtec 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Did any of you guys try out the Amiga emulator? Really brought alot of old memories back. Im feeling like a teenager again
General Barron 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Quote[/b] ]I think so much of the atmosphere with Amiga games, and effort that was put in to create it, is very seriously lacking from many of today's modern titles. I really just don't get that thrill from a game anymore when I first buy it, which I always used to get when I bought a really good Amiga title. I agree 100%. Well, actually I never really bought any Amiga games, since I was like 6-12 at the time, but I have very fond memories of many of them--memories which I don't have for many games after the mid-90's or so (save OFP of course). I'm pretty sure it isn't just youthful nostalgia though, because I've downloaded lots of these games on an emulator, and they are just as fun as they used to be (and just as hard in some cases... at the time I thought it was just because I was so young! Ah yes, Amiga games rocked. I loved too many to even remember, but some of my favorites were: Kyrandia Silent Service Lemmings Castles Populous Police Quest Wings -I remember I got so far in this game, with hundreds of kills, when the disk my save was on got corrupted. I was so upset I literally cried (okay, I was a child at the time) Wings of Fury -Bloody hard game, but bloody fun. Used to love going on 'kamikazi' missions in this one. Eye of the Beholder -Great DnD game. I remember always getting stuck when you first start seeing giant spiders, since they would just poison me to death. Syndicate The Rocketeer (? not sure about the title on this one) -This game had lots of different aspects to it ('minigames' in a sense). I remember you had to take off by pressing the L and R mouse buttons with proper rythym. Moria -Still alive as "Angband". Great game since the dungeons were random, therefore it had practically infinite replay value! Quote[/b] ]Midwinter is a great game, some years ago I was thinking that a Midwinter remake with OFP would be nice... "Midwinter" was the first thing that popped into my mind when I played THobson's mission Abandoned Armies.
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted February 13, 2006 I'd like to do something like Midwinter for ArmA tbh. I got the Midwinter island map which i could photograph so someone could do the basic shape in wrp editor and then use imagination to fill out big planes with details. The vehicles and buildings are depicted in the manual, along with ingame info. The BDU and some equipment of the security force can be seen on the front cover, which could be used as a base for a variety of other rebel soldiers. Back then the enemy AI operated in single groups ingame, not as a whole. So it comes near to the approach Opf/ArmA are managing squads. In a way the whole scenario is a capture & hold of important places like heat mines (for the AI) and villages (for the player). I'd have no difficulties to script such an AI. Best fun part would be the whole scenario as a MP coop mission i believe. Players split up to free security personel faster, therefore securing bottlenecks on the island before the enemy AI gets there.
brataccas 0 Posted February 13, 2006 o! Ive just remembered, Carrier command! ! ! now if anyone doesnt know this game then ill be very shocked! shadow 6 Posted February 14, 2006 o! Ive just remembered, Carrier command! ! ! now if anyone doesnt know this game then ill be very shocked! You may be shocked. What is it? Looks like some goldfish with wings taking off a carrier The only sim I played on the Amiga was Fighter Bomber. Personally I dont think there were that many special titles on the Amiga compared to the C64.
Balschoiw 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Quote[/b] ]What is it? A tactical game where you have carrier, send out amphibious vehicles, drones, jets, etc. It was placed in the future. Very good game. I think I had it for C64 though. Could be wrong and it could have been for Amiga500. So long ago... I still have the audio soundtrack that came with the game on an extra Audio Tape. Those were the days :-) Anyway I guess the game I still remember best is Parsec for TI 99/4a. That was a hell of a space shooter. C64 outrank most of the Amiga games imo as there were thousands of C64 games while there were only a handfull of original Amiga games. Most Amiga games were remakes of C64 ones. Of course the gfx were great with the Amiga, also the new sound possibilities, but overall I have to say the C64 gave me more thrill than the Amiga. Anyone had an ST at the time ? Dungeon Master in black and white was a great RPG imo. Still have two complete ST´s with B/W monitors somewhere. The clash between ST and Amiga users at the time was classic I am pretty sure that I still have the Sinclair ZX 81 anywhere aswell but that thing is so tiny that it´s hard to spot. Warden 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Ooohhh i remember that! had if for my C64. Â Anyone ever play Tau Ceti? http://www.cpcgamereviews.com This seems to be a great site, got mini reviews and all sorts. Oh And Who can Forget Dizzy and the Yolk Folk!
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted February 14, 2006 A friend owned CarrierCommand on Amiga. He said it was boring, apart from attacking the fortified (?) enemy islands or something. Don't quite remember. Then i played it and had the enemy carrier in front of me within 1 hour. Attacked it immediately (friend gave me instructions lol) but couldn't sink it. In the process both carriers were damaged so the AI made a run for it. Only time i encountered the enemy carrier tbh, but i have to admit after seeing how difficult it was to find and kill the AI our interest in the game faded away. Â There was a 3D reaction game i played a lot on Amiga but can`t remember its name: you were racing across a huge plain, just with a crosshair (no cockpit or something). You could shoot little energy balls that would hop up and down and kill your enemies on contact. The enemy were huge formations of bigger balls or sometimes UFOs that would shoot hopping energy balls on you. Sounds boring, but the speed of the game was incredible. You could fly forward, turn and even backwards, with guns blazing all the way because there was no ammo counter. The whole 'battlefield' was an inferno of shooting UFOs and hopping energy balls. Hits were instant kills and everything exploded into many tiny pieces which looked fantastic at that time. Anyone remembers the name ? I think it was one short word but i could be wrong (damn alcohol)
brataccas 0 Posted February 14, 2006 omg!! you actually saw the enemy carrier! no way back in the time if I saw it I probably would of s**t myself, it was in a way quite scary as you hear that "pling" when the carrier has taken over another island closer to you, right thats it im pluggin my amiga back in and I want to see that enemy carrier! ! anyone played pandora? I need help on that im stuck (playing the rom atm)
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Well, it was an amazing sight - looked like a dark blue stealth ship, like that one in James Bond - Tomorrow never dies. Wish u luck mate. (i'd use more torpedos this time maybe that works)
