OFP Crashes Randomly....

Recommended Posts

Hey all...

I sent BIS (support@bistudio.com) a email and it's been a while - so I thought I would post it here...

Well – OFP Randowly crashes all the time, and when it crashes and try and get back into the game – it doesn’t let me for a few hours…its kinda weird…

CPU: AMD Athlon 2400+ @ 2.01Ghz

MotherBoard: ASUS A7V600-X

Ram: 512MB Generic Ram

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE 64MB

HardDrive: Maxtor 60GB

It crashes in normal game, FFUR, ECP – Everything, just randomly crashes….

I am running Windows XP Professional, SP2 and Windows Vista Transformation Pack 3.

Thanks

- Antipop (AKA Hurley)

What video driver are you using? Do any error messages come up? Did you search for a flashpoint.RPT file in your OPF directory? Your game settings?

OPF can crash for very strange reasons, for ex: it randomly crashes for me with Vsync enabled, so everytime i read OPF crashes randomly i think about all the trouble i went just to find it was due to something so simple.

I use the Nvidia 78.01 drivers.

I have a 17" Samsung LCD with 8ms response....

What sound card are u using?

Sound Blaster Live! for example can cause crashes when only certain sounds are played.

Do you use -nomap?

Have you checked your system temperatures?

Do you have the latest VID drivers installed?

Yes. I use the latest NVIDIA Drivers now. But now I cant even get into the game. It goes black then crashes straight to desktop.

EDIT: I think it is DXDLL..not sure though..

EDIT: Fixed it. But now it is again randomly crashing!

do other games crash?

if they do u might have a faulty vga card or perhaps corrupt directx

try reinstalling directx

or there can be a certain possibility, ofp might conflict with the "Windows Vista Transformation Pack 3."

Use the OFP Preferences program and use Autodetect to reset the graphics settings.

If that doesn't do the trick, run DXDIAG.EXE and test all of the items in the Display tab to make sure DirectDraw and Direct3D are working.

DXDLL... You guys should definetly try to provide more details about your specs, settings and amount of addons used, what you have done to fix it and if you did fix it what that fix was so others can read it... you only have 512 megs of ram, remove everything that is unoficial from your game folders, run the flashpoint preferences utility and click the autodetect tab, reduce texture resolutions in the advanced options, reduce ground detail to low and visibility to 1000, add -nomap to your flashpoint exe shortcut so it looks like this:

C:\Programs\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE -nomap -nosplash

You have what seems to be a good video card for flashpoint, if setting Vsync to off in the driver settings does not fix it try an older video driver version or try the 81:97 from tweaksRus (these are the best set i have ever used with OPFR so far. Fast, beautyfull and very reliable).

We really need a sticky where users can post how they solved their D3D crashing problems..

i am also having the same problem, and its just been with in the last two months. It just crashes saying 1.96 has encountered an error needs to close. My OFP has ran fine for almost 5 years with no problems. Then this error started happening around the first of december.

My System specs

P4 3.0 800FSB

2Gig DDR 400

Nvidia 5900XT AGP

Realtek AC 97 SOund drivers

VIA PT880 Chipset

This is what i have tried so far..

-clean reinstall of my XP Pro

-Tried with GOTY

-Tired with OFP Regular as well

-Tired with Old and New Nivida Drivers

-Tried with Old and New Sound Drivers

-Tried with Old and New Chipset Drivers

-Tried No Map and No Spash

-Have only the standard Addons and Maps

-Temp is steady under load 35 Degrees for CPU

-Case Temp the same at 27 Degrees

-Power Supply is tested OK for Voltage

-DirectX 9.0c is testing ok

-Other games i have no issues

-Memory tested ok

I guess the strange part about it is i tried it with both a GOTY version and a Standard ofp Version and they both have the same error.

You don't mention if you updated the drivers of those two?

Also what about lowering hardware acceleration on the soundcard?

I have tried every Nvidia video card driver from 56.76 to current 81.98. My sound card is onboard and i have also tired the same in that as well. lol... this has me scratching my head banghead.gif . I can take the same disk GOTY or Original ofp and install it on a different computer and it doesnt crash. So it can only be two things then.. HARWARE or Operating System.

I have ruled a majority of the hardware issues out, theres a few more i could check. Also by checking the post here it seems that this problem is happening more so than before.

So now that has me thinking that and OS update or Some new security is in place that is blocking OFP and making it crash with service pack 2.

Could the 1.75 to 1.96 Resi patch on the Codemaster site have been corrupted? For both GOTY and Original Versions.

Also i have 4 computers running OFP with no problems that are XP home Edition. Mine is the only one with XP PRO

SGT. Hurley  I had the same problem like you.

Since a year I play the ECP MOD but the game always crashed to desktop after a few minutes of playing.

There where two possibilities.

1 The game returned to desktop.

2 The screen freezes and I needed to reboot my pc because the pc did not respond anymore. (ALT TAB) Nothing works

I have searched this forum and tried all possible solutions but nothing seems to help. huh.gif     crazy_o.gif

Since a few Day's, I don't use the grenadier soldiers in my own created missions anymore and it seems to work. The crashes stopped. Maybe the sound of the grenades causes the game to crash.

This can be a solution for those who use the ECP MOD.

Good luck   wink_o.gif

My system congiguration is

CPU               AMD 3000 venice

motherbord     Asus A8N-E

videocard       ATI X800 Readon

Memory         1GB Twinmoss

Hi all,

I've had the same problem for some time now. The game locks up and crashes without advice. I tried many possible solution, and none solved the problem. Even with vanilla OFP, no addons, no DXDLL, just out of the box install + 1.96 patch.

I believe the game does not like overclocked computers, which seems to be SGTHurley's case as you have an AMD2400 at 2GHz (meant to run at 1.5GHz). By returning to original config (AMD2600 at 1.6GHz instead of 2.0GHz overclocked), all works well...

Hope this helps

Malick

You could also need a bit more RAM, winxp needs alot memory for itself. An upgrade to 1GB Ram will give OFP a little boost and will increase the stability of OFP.

Well I already have 1Go Ram, not the most powerful as it's only PC2100, but should be enough. And by the way, in fact I just crashed OFP, even if my computer is no more overclocked... But that was with ECP, DMA, Lauma sky, many addons installed. I just had an error message, WinXP style:

Operation Flashpoint has created a fatal error and needs to be closed, sorry etc...

Always loved these VERY informative messages. Back to beginning for me.

yep sounds familliar, i used to have an old gforce agp got same messages ,sometimes cannot create 3d ... sometimes fatal error.

i installed the drivers for the date of manufacture of my gfx card and it solved it. maybe works for others.

i got a pcie cardnow works like a card should. go to nvidia forms

you will see a lot of topics about lack of support in the new software for older cards.

this is where i looked at nvidia

I've got an intresting crashing issue, On mine, if I run it in Direct3D HW T&L it'll crash like crazy, within a few minutes, but if I switch it to Regular Direct3D, it runs like a charm. Any ideas as to what may be causing that??? Currently I'm runnin just the DMA Army mod, but it did that on a fresh install as well.

Sys specs. are in my Sig, but a little more info, Runnin DX9.0c, the latest 81.98 Drivers for the nvidia card, and Nvidia 5.10 for the nForce mobo chipset. The Ram is older, PC2700, but with a Gig of it gets the job done. tounge2.gif
