ofp gameplay: control turret & drive at once

hi there

i often play ofp singleplayer and i wish i could drive and move the turret of a tank at the same time without the stupid ai crewmembers.

does someone know how i can implement this?

maybe some script that, if you get in as gunner, maps the driving keys of the driver position and vice versa? or maybe you can emulate the same player sitting at both positions at once?

Kegety released some 1AI tanks where only 1 player is needed to drive and gun. Similar to C&C Renegade. wink_o.gif

Yeh, the editor upgrades have 1AI tanks for one or two of them, which are what your after...

i was looking for something like this

the 1ai one wont let u look donw the barrel i dont think has anyone made one like this

so its similar to the way tanks are driven in the battlefield games

I don't think that is possible. Besides, not many people would be motivated to create one, as Operation Flashpoint is a predominantly realistc game. So in answer to your question, I don't think such an addon exists.

For fiction mods like the C&C one it would probably be appropriate for only one person to be required to control the tanks. It would be nice for the basic concept to be developed a little further.

The cost to a team when the tank is destroyed would be reduced when you don't lose two or three players in one go. Also it may become possible to only count it as 1 squad member AI and that would mean a squad could have twelve tanks.

ah yes the 1 ai tanks.

thx for the tip, but still the need to remap all tanks in a quick and easy way

i hope this maybe is included as a global option for arma to have 1 player tanks. i know its not "realistic" ok but an option is always good smile_o.gif

It is possible, just not done.

Personally I find 1 AI tanks quite funny at times, not because they save me (mission maker) AI, but also because it makes for some hectic tank TDM's.

I hope somebody makes a 1 AI M113 / BMP / rest of the vehicles too. Especially a Shilka could do fine with one.

Yeah, I was reffering to the concept of 1 AI tanks that allow you to look down the gunner's optics as well as drive it. I love 1A1 TDMs too, try it in the harbour of AEF's Treben island. It's mental. biggrin_o.gif

Its possible for single player tank:- make driver as gunner in config, delete away commander and gunner. Example:- check out my mech addon today in the addons completed section. Can be adapted for tanks.

Thats because the driver can't use the gunner's sight, and you can't fix this without editing the model.

As for the whole concept, it has its advantages in MP, but in singleplayer its better to have a proper tank crew (driver,gunner,commander). If you know what you're doing, then the amount of control over driving and gunning with the AI would be the same as if you were doing both yourself. Also, its really not fun to have to drive the tank all the way across the island, if you let the AI do it that's one less task you have to worry about, and AI are very good drivers. And gunning isn't such a great task either, you have a bad field of view, and AI are really good at keeping the gun on target. If you are used to it in BF2, then thats another thing. I find the tanks in BF2 to be crap, you can't aim (especially when moving) and you can never see where you're going, so you crash alot (and these massive tanks like to get caught on every little object), not to mention that the BF2 engine really doesn't handle tanks well in the first place, they drive more like underpowered wheeled vehicles, and don't have stabilized turrets (odd considering that most modern tanks do IRL). In my opinion (which is a good opinion whistle.gif ) tanks in BF2 need to be more like OFP, which does tanks extremely well.

this idea can make the commander´s mg to be useful. You chance weapon and change do commander´s positons to fire at choppers. The AI can spawn if the tank is damage, but you are still limitaded do 4 tank.

Som players don´t like to be driver in MP games. Everybody want´s to be gunner.
