I have a bunch of pics of that very action figure. biggrin_o.gif Your pic has better shots of some of the accessories, though. *files away*

As for the lens, when I first did that one up, I needed it really long so it would fit into the hands of the guy when using the default (as well as DMA) animations. Now that I'm planning on doing a whole new set of anims, I'll probably have much less, umm, exaggerated lenses. biggrin_o.gif

Nominesine, thanks for the camera recommendations. smile_o.gif

Anyways, I've gotten the photographer model all UV'd up, and Llauma's given me permission to share the mapping of my custom head with his own face textures. If I have time, I'll see about doing up more face textures as well.

Any camera suggestions? smile_o.gif

Canon EOS 1 series (the number one press camera of the 1990's in Europe, also one of the best digital camera series of today - visually the modern digital version looks very similar to the 1980's models)

Mmmm, EOS1DS MkII, 16.7 megapixels... and only around 8,000-9,000 euros... tounge2.gif

Nice idea, can't wait for the camera(s) to be finished. thumbs-up.gif

Holy feck, 16.7MP?! crazy_o.gif

Okay, so I think I'm done with the UVing, so I just need to get his hands posed properly for OFP, and texture the guy. Behold, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Photographers' Vest. biggrin_o.gif

For the astute ones out there, yes, the head texture is Llauma's. There's some stretching going on around the top of the head, but there wasn't much I could do about that, since I was mapping different mesh topology to an existing texture. whistle.gif

Oh, and that untextured thing on his chest will eventually be a press ID with setObjectTexture. The straps around his leg will become a dropleg holster, for those photographers who double as "advisors."

Looking good, great idea with teh camera, original and something you don't often see,I mean we have lots of war things but nothing to tape/photograph it with,I guess now we do,Wouldn't worry too much about the model, lets face it computers aren't as old as they used to be and how many photographers are generally on the field at once?

Just a thought though...wouldn't the pants cause some tripping or something being caught thus hindering a bit?

I have a small suggestion about the correspondent. When I go to a hot zone I usually tape a small Swedish flag onto my left arm or the back of my jacket, because everybody loves us swedish guys and almost no one shoots at us smile_o.gif It's a safety thing used by many correspondents. Other colleagues (from the US for example) simply makes a flag and writes "PRESS" or "JOURNALIST" or "SA HAFI".

You really think it'd be clever to wear an US flag when going into, say, Iraq? tounge2.gif

Looks great so far, any chance of some more 'vintage' equipment for us WWII and 'Nam freaks?

No, I don't think it's clever to wear a US flag in Iraq. That's why I used the Swedish flag. And I believe this is the reason americans mostly wear the neutral armpatch, if any.

Been slow going. tounge2.gif I've only managed to work on the correspondent a bit more, tweaking the mesh and UVs, and started up a preliminary texture. The colors are looking a tad off in Bulldozer, though, as compared to Photoshop and Wings. Seems to be more desaturated, and a bit brighter than I thought. Well, easily adjusted later.

journalist7.jpg

Any suggestions, including texture-wise, are welcome.

Oh, I've also managed to rig up a proper dropleg holster (not in the shot). Might do up some other accessories later, but for now I really gotta get this texture done. Then I can get the cameras working.

ps. Which arm do the flag/press patches typically go on?

edit:

I'm finding it disturbingly easy to distract myself. whistle.gif

edit2:

Too. Easily. Distracted. crazy_o.gif

I'm right handed, so I usually stick it to my left shoulder. But I think it's a matter of personal taste. Any choice you make will be the right one.

P.S The model is looking good so far. The ID-card around the neck is a nice touch. Since I assume he is supposed to be a frontline correspondent... maybe you should give the clothing a worn/dirty/rugged look when you highlight the textures.

Thanks for the clearup on the patches. smile_o.gif

As for the textures, don't worry, they'll definitely be dirtied up and worn down. smile_o.gif And don't worry, the santa hat won't stay. tounge2.gif The beard might, though, if I can clean it up some (and shorten it a lot tounge2.gif).

Been a bit slowgoing with the holiday celebrations, but managed to get a bit more done. Still very much WIP, but getting there, slowly but surely. Did a bunch of minor mesh tweaks as well.

(old, non-updated pic, see below for correct pic)

Without accessories, 2994 tris. with cap, Oakleys, dropleg holster, and press ID, just shy of 3600 tris.

I'm going to try and pick up the pace on this, since I'll be starting college again at the end of the month. I'm gonna feel like an old fart in there. crazy_o.gif The last week has been rather bad for productivity, what with being fairly inebriated and all. biggrin_o.gif I've spent some more time on the photographer, but I've gotten to that stage where I keep on noodling with the little things, and not getting anything significant done. crazy_o.gif

So, I decided to start work on another camera. Decided to start with an EOS-1 (I'm following pics of the D Mark 2, but the basic body shape has remained remarkably similar from the initial version, so other versions should be a cinch). Also managd to knock up a bunch of different lenses (this time I actually used proper reference tounge2.gif). Still pretty rough at this point, though, as you can tell.

canon-eos1.jpg

@Lycanthrope:

Photographers from other eras are planned, though those will come at a later date. I'll likely work my way backwards, starting with 80s to present-day, then Vietnam-era, then if I can find the time, I'll attempt a WW2-era guy.

The unit modeling is superb but the details feels slightly exaggerated, sort of like comics. So you pretty much have to make it more boring to make it fit better in OFP.

Cheers Llauma. When you say the details are exaggerated, do you mean in terms of the modelled details, or the textures? If textures, it might be because I haven't really gotten around to dirtying them up yet. Of course, it's entirely possible I'm still stuck in stylized mode (prior to this I my character stuff was chiefly cartoony or stylized).

The modelled details. It's not really that much but to me it's at least obvious where you come from, the stylized/cartoon modelling.

But it seems like I'm the only one who sees that so you could just make me disappear. You got some great skills so I'm sure it will look great no matter what.

Thanks, I'll definitely see what I can do about toning down the exaggeration. Now that you've pointed it out, I can see at least a couple areas I can work on. If you have anything specific that you've noticed, please let me know. There's nothing like a fresh, unbiased pair of eyes to notice mistakes or areas of improvement. smile_o.gif

But it seems like I'm the only one who sees that so you could just make me disappear.

Not at all, man. That's definitely some valuable critique, and it's much appreciated.

Quote[/b] ]You got some great skills so I'm sure it will look great no matter what.

Still got a long way to go, skills-wise. biggrin_o.gif But cheers for that. And hell, you're no slouch yourself, as your head model demonstrates. You should take a crack at expanding on that repertoire. I reckon you could make some kickass stuff. thumbs-up.gif
