Giant Squid

Recommended Posts

I like the "scientific research" that involved hooking the animal and tearing off part of an appendage. Good job. Making science proud. crazy_o.gif

While the first news is really interesting as none of such has ever been pictured before alive the second news from Avon is just a waste of time...

Why didn´t you just post the picture ?

Would have saved my time.

I remember watching scientests attaching a camera to the backs of sperm whales, trying to capture them hunting giant squids. But the cameras fell off the backs of the the whales at deep depths.

And giant squids aren't the biggest squid down there, there are colossal squids that are even bigger. wow_o.gif

Japanese scientists have, after 3 years of trying" finally captured some video of the well-known (but never filmed alive) Squid. Check out this video:

If youve seen it before, its because its been dead and stranded... A live one has actually never been cought before.

That´s impossible. It got filmed for the very first time ever.

Noone has ever filmed them before. You may have seen a computer animation but certainly not an alive one.

That´s why these pictures are so fantastic. I mean...it´s as long as a truck crazy_o.gifwow_o.gifwow_o.gif

The crazy thing...this thing was what... 8 meters?

Apparently the biggest one to have washed ashore was over 17 meters! crazy_o.gif

Hmm, not exactly the prettiest creatures on the block are they? Personally, I much prefer these creatures, although it breaks my heart to see them in this condition;

Here...

The fact that the Sperm Whale (or Mawson's Killer Whale) can take on Giant Squid in their own element and win, even at the age of 70, is rather interesting don't you think? It's a shame that they seem to be the type most likely to beach. sad_o.gif

I swore off calamari and eating squid after scuba diving in Belize and seeing a show on squid on PBS. They are really very very intelligent.

When we were scuba diving the squid followed us around watching us. They would all form a line and sit there and observe us. We would swim off and they would follow us. They were very very interesting. At night they would come near the dock and watch them hunt the smaller fish. Was pretty amazing.

Dang it, do you have to tell me that? I love calamari crazy_o.gif aarrrrgh!

Well, I can live without calamari, but put a swordfish filet in front of me and I won't care if I'm eating the intelectual equal of Einstein

*hasn't had swordfish in about 15 years and still has fond memories of the last time*
