How would you want a tank to look like?

Recommended Posts

Alright folks how would you want a tank to look like in OFP.  Do you want it rusty and worn out?  Or do you want to have the paint job still intact?

I'd do 2 versions,a "cleaner" but with scratches and a battle worn to hell version later.

BlackBlood have random soldiers in an SAS infantry, from his BLEED pack... Dunno if it would work with textures thoug...

Maybe like that "age" thing in the editor, the older it is the more it's dammaged tounge2.gif

Did always wonder what that was for tounge2.gif

So a brand-new tank works perfectly and is clean, but a 10 year old BMP that's been used every day is rusted to hell and got bullet dents everywhere smile_o.gif

I think this can only be a discussion for A&M:D as the tanks in vanilla Opf are already as they are wink_o.gif

Just one problem with that. Militaries tend to repair and repaint their vehicles. wink_o.gif Dents they get just driving around.

I don't think a BMP would get "dents" from bullets, more like holes. Their armour is paper thin (the 1 series anyway) so being in service for 10 would be a mirical! But I get what you mean.

It depends what sort of tank it is and who owns it. If it's say an Abrams, then it'll most likely be well maintained, so just have it "worn", with scratches and mud and stuff, or dust if it's a desert version. No real "damage" as they wouldn't use it if it was, they'd repair it or scrap it or something.

Or as said before... make a "clean" and "worn" version. Personally I'd rather have a wreck version for when it's blown to smitherines than an old rusty one, unless it was made for poor armies or the resistance side. The BTR's in WGL (can't remember who made them originally) are like that. The Russian ones are nice and well looked after and the Resistance ones are rusty and look over used.

Ahh, since i haven't actually answered the question;

Yeah, some mud, bullet holes and stuff like that. Like a "after-battle" tank

As in guns, I think the best is to have it look like used, but not in a battle. This means scratches and worn paint etc. but mostly in places where they come automatically. (like for example in guns, the magazines should have a lot of scratches, and some other places too which rub against other parts. Like in those tanks, propably near the turret, doors and treads.

And some mud, of course! I have always hated the shiny boots of the units in OFP anyways biggrin_o.gif

My idea wasn't to be accurate, it was more to have some form of option you can set, like [tank1, 0.5] exec "dammageLevel.sqs", would make the tank with a bunch of scratches, bullet holes etc, if it's at 0, the tanks brand-new and shiney, if it's 0.9, it's half-dead scrap-heap bound. Then if the tank is desroyed, it's replaced with a desroyed model (oddly enough.. tounge2.gif)

maybee add some black shit from either firing the main gun or machine guns, and maybee some black shit near to the exhaust from the engine... Mud and shit that gets stuck near the tracks... Parts of trees and other shit stuck somewhere on the tank. Expended ammo from the commander MG. Some handwriting.

I would do like three versions, 1 normal, 1 medium F'ed, and 1 Fubar thumbs-up.gif

It would be nice to see scratches and mud on the tank, but no bullet holes and pieces missing. Maybe on the fia tanks the quality good be a bit downgraded with a few bullet holes and dents but nothing too extreme.

I agree, I wouldn't really expect to see a rundown tank with bullet holes and dents in any military unless it is something of a guerrila force/militia. I would suggest some mud, mainly on the outer edges of the wheels as well as around the treads as well as a few scratches here and there.

what I would like to see is like stated before one clean and one muddy with a few bullet holes.

I have watched shows about the Abrams and when they get back from a mission they hose off the tank/treads. so one clean for around the base and one dirty. smile_o.gif

maybee a green version that is totally covered in dust from operating in the desert for some time! and I mean TOTALLY covered in dust not small parts, some vehicles that are used in iraq that didnt have repaint looked really dusty after few days.
