DBR_ONIX 0 Posted July 6, 2005 Secondly, the 512 texture limit does obviously cause issues, but do the math. If you have ~10cm resolution 512*512px textures (~171kb), and want to cover an entire 12.8km map, that ((256^2)*171)/(1024^2) = 10.6875 GIGABYTES of texture data. There's the minor details of 32bit Windows XP applications being limited to 2/3gb of RAM, other little details such as the OFP/VBS memory manager (-nomap ), and how to stream 10gb of data off your hard drive and through your video card, all in real time. Good point, but the soloution is simple, 1, dont do a huge map, 2, dont use photo-textures for all of it The OFP ground textures look worse (IMHO) than these (The ones in that video) ones on the ground. Atleast this way they aren't repeated over a distance, which looks horrible sometimes (Most of the time you dont notice, but it's nice to see them change etc ) - Ben
berghoff 11 Posted July 6, 2005 I hope in "OFP2" they come with a solution like in for example UT2004 in the editor you just have 2 textures that can blend without making new ones for the terrain, It doesn't matter what size they are you just add them, would be very nice if you want to create a small sand road over another texture. Its very handy. =)

-HUNTER- 1 Posted July 6, 2005 coulndt you edit the sat photo in photoshop... or like make your own sat photo >>> drawing it! Since the resolution isnt that high when your on the ground. But on the other picture from the UAV it looks absolutly stunning!
smiley nick 51 Posted July 6, 2005 I think you are better off leaving the idea as its a lot of work, and the island will be very small, and the texture pbo will be huge Thats not to say you cant do custom textures, prehaps only have a few areas with sat images as having the hole island covered in them would make the texture pbo and island rather large. What island do you have in mind that you want to make? Smiley
