Why creator let us use the Rocket LAW more than 1 time. Why A-10 sucks so much against tank (fire rate too low, the GAU-8 AVENGER can fire 3'900 rounds a minute). Same for AH-64. sad.gif

The creators of this game have underestimated the power of several firearms in the game.

The Avenger cannon on the A-10 for instance can kill a main battle tank, yet in the game they do not treat it like it can. Also the Vulcan can disable or even kill a main battle tank, but in the game fat chance of that happening.

The 50 calibur weapon on the M113 is NOT a standard feature of M113s, usually they have an M-60 on top and that's it. Still, some did have the M2 up there, and the M2 is a powerful weapon. The M2 can shoot through the armor of a BMP, yet in the game it does NOTHING to the BMP. This needs to be fixed.

The .308 and 7.62x54R weapons in the game need to have better penetration. IRL these guns can handily shoot through 8 inches of concrete, and still be lethal on the other side at short ranges. The sides of helicopters should offer little to no protection against these rounds. In fact, the M113 should not reliably stop these rounds either. IRL the aluminum crappy armor of this vehicle was not even reliably able to stop either. In Vietnam this was a HUGE problem. Enemies using captured M-60s and their own PKs were shooting through the sides of them and killing occupants. Worse yet, little Vietnamese with crappy Mosin-Nagant WW2 surplus(rifles that were the crappiest of the bunch to begin with, plus dirty, plus old and given to them by Russia) would take pot shots at them sometimes and kill people inside. The flat sides just didn't deflect anything reliably.

The cannon on the A10 could definitely do with fixing...it's the whole raison d'etre of the bloody thing (basically a big gun with wings).

'bout 10 years ago, while on holiday, I saw a couple of A10s hitting training targets on a beach...we were some distance away but although the damage to the targets was difficult to assess, the noise was certainly impressive.

I would imagine the damage viewable outside would be minimal.. but having that 6 inch slug bouncing around the inside of that tank like pac-man on crack would cause the crew much anguish.

Actually, the Vulcan does a great job against MBTs in OFP, and shouldn't. It fires high-explosive rounds that are intended to damage thin-skinned aircraft and their engines with shrapnel, not tanks with half-a-meter equivalent RHA armor.

the thing is it is only fires in 30 round bursts (enough to destroy a tank) as it slows the aircraft down

No, it fires about 7-9 second bursts because otherwise the gun would simply melt!

Hmm,

as i understand Pilots fire about 1- 1 1/2 second bursts on armored targets @3900RPM , putting about 65-97 projectiles down. The reason the GAU-8/A is very effective against Tanks is the PGU-14/B DU Penetrator slug that impacts on the upper hemisphere of the target (Turret roof, top chassis) where the armored vehicle has only little protection compared to other locations.

What is truly scary about that pictures is that the perspective will make the VW Bug seem larger than it really is in relation to the GAU-8. biggrin.gif

Its all very nice drooling over the big gun but on the modern battlefield the A-10 becomes one huge SAM magnet when it tries to get in close enough to use it..hence the trusty Maverick.

ALso the gun on the A-10 sounds kinda weak in the game.Have you ever heard the sound the gun makes on a F-14?Its 20mm is just 10mm smaller but it sounds way more wickeder then the 30mm in the game.To know what the real A-10 gun sounds like ill give you a hint the A-10 pilots call it "A fart from God" lol.In the game it sounds more like a human God lol.So work on that BIS.It kinda sounds like a girly gun not a monsterouse gun like it should be.Maybe if you played F-22 lighting the gun sounds pretty good so maybe just copy that sound.(At least). smile.gif

The one thing I hate in OFP is the fact that all vehicles have a default load of 500 rounds. The co-axial MG in any tank has thousands of rounds not just 500.

OFP is realistic but it can definitely be improved.

While i agree with you on the fact that the m113 SHOULD be able to rip the sh*t out of the bmp (grrrr bmps.....), they actaully still DO have .50's on them.

Thats an m113 in east timor, it still has a .50 on it, it might also have a .30 on it.

It's actually 500 bursts, not 500 rounds.
