Try for 1GB of RAM - big difference for OFPR!

You say BIG difference?

I plan to add another 512 MB when I get some money for it. I think 512 is a good start.

You say BIG difference?

Very!

Rule of thumb:

OFP CWC: 256MB to 512MB RAM = BIG Difference

OFP Resistance: 512MB to 1024MB RAM = BIG Difference

Shovel some snow to earn the extra money! wink_o.gif

Just wanted to add something concerning performance in OFP. My sytem specs look as following:

AMD Athlon64 3000+

1GB Ram

Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro 128mb

asus k7v se deluxe mb

I got a very good tip lately (thx Balschoiw!). Before OFP wasn't running _too_ well on my computer, without dxdll enabled and medium settings/~2000 view distance. Now this excellent guy gave me the tip to use the Omega drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net) for the ATI and to set my AGP Aperture Size lower (I knew about this but somehow was too ignorant to do it earlier...), so I set it at 4x. Doing these two things, I noticed a huge performance increase! OFP, whose earlier average fps rate was around 20-25, is now running with between 40 and 120 fps in average missions with dxdll fully enabled!

I just wanted to share my excitement with others, maybe there are other people in a similar situation as I was before. smile_o.gif

Hi Hardrock,

I have got a similar system and would like to try this, but what did you change here?

[...] and to set my AGP Aperture Size lower (I knew about this but somehow was too ignorant to do it earlier...), so I set it at 4x. [...]

If you lowered AGP Aperture Size it would be 64MB or something like that. Or did you lower your AGP rate from 8x to 4x?

Would be nice if you could correct this smile_o.gif

Sorry for bringing this topic up again.. Hope it doesn't count as spamming  rock.gif

Well anyway... I have been thinkin that maybe my RAM can be the problem with my whole computer... I read somewhere that WinXP can be "driven" on 128mb RAM, but that can make the computer slow and that's the case with our computer. After I type my password in it takes about 6 minutes before I can start using the computer (!)... Do you think i need more ram?

BTW; I have the slowest ram of them all SDRAM PC133  sad_o.gif

Avon must be laughing tounge_o.gif

Feel free keep voting tounge_o.gif

Sorry for my bad english

Unfortunately for me....even with my setup:

Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz @ 3.5Ghz

1Gb Cosair DDR 400

Geforce 6800GT

I only reach similiar performance that I did with my old:

Intel Pentium 4 2Ghz

768Mb RAM

Geforce 4 ( 4600 Ti )

I can only assume it isn't really taking advantage of my more modern hardware...still its playable -- and I'm gonna keep searching for tweaking suggestions...  biggrin_o.gif

EDIT: I'll try lower my Aperture size in the BIOS ( as mentioned above..) -- hope this helps further biggrin_o.gif

Well, actually I think that a 64-bit processor is only waste of money. It wont be faster 'cause most programs are made for 32-bit processor. The price-difference is big between 32-bit and 64-bit but performance-difference is not that big. Wait 3-4 years and buy a 64-bit then...

E-Machine Celeron 900MHz

16MB onboard video card

384MB RAM

Onboard audio as well

At least there's someone, somewhere with a system worse than mine...right? rock.gif

Well, you've got me beat on the processor....

I'm running Win 98SE on a PII 400Mhz...

I think I've got the slowest processor here so far.

I've got you beat on RAM @ 512MB PC100,

128MB ATI Radeon 8500, running at 2X AGP

and an old Aureal Vortex 2 soundcard, tho.....

One of these days I'm gonna have to figure out what my framerates are like....

Right now im at:

AMD XP2400+ 133 FSB sad_o.gif

Kingston 512MB RAM 400Mhz (running in only 266Mhz)

Radeon 9800 Pro

280GB HDD

Pretty shitty machine, cant play to good with HQ addons and high settings. So I'm saving up to next upgrade already:

AMD 64 4000+

Crucial 1024MB BallistiX RAM

-Put 512MB graphic-card here-

Then I'll see how much I can push OFP too. XD *yummy*

I've upgraded my computer with a 256mb memory, so now I have 384mb, wich means almost no lag  biggrin_o.gif

Well, here's the reason for bringing this topic up again:

Quote[/b] ]If you have more money then sane, buy this:

Thermaltake XaserV V8000A WinGo

Antec PowerSupply (PSU) 350W ATX Phantom (No fan)

Asus Socket 775 - ATX i955X (P5WD2) PCIe / DDR2 / GLAN

Intel Pentium 4 660 3,6ghz 800/2m S775

Kingston DDR2 1024MB 533MHz CL4 ECC/REG*2

Maxtor 300GB SATA Maxline +III (7200RPM / 16MB Cache / SATA)*2

Seagate 400GB SATA Barracuda 7200.8 NCQ (8MB Cache / Sata)*1

Asus GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB - DVi / TV-Ut / PCI-Express

Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 4 Pro

Plextor Intern IDE DVD±RW 16x - Beige/Svart (Retail)

Viewsonic TFT 23" VP231WB - Svart (Widescreen)

Logitech MX1000 Cordless Laser Mouse - Midnight (PS2/USB)

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 3.0 (Ps2/USB) (Svensk)

Creative Speaker Gigaworks S750 (7.1)

For cooling:

Zalman Reserator 1 (Fanless watercooling)

Zalman ZM-GWB1 Waterblock GPU

3,6Ghz

2GB memory (upgradeable to 8GB  crazy_o.gif )

1 TERABYTE of HD-space (1000GB)  crazy_o.gif

Almost completely silent system (you won't hear anything from the computer, when the OFP battles get hot wink_o.gif )

Cordless lasermouse and a cordless desktop (throwing away the first optical mouse to give room for the lasermouse.

Costs about $8000

Sorry for some bad translating from Swedish to English. All products are from Swedish Webhallen AB
