SixPack

For the last 14months i've been working on my abs and do see resullts when I flex but for some reason it seems my lower part of my stomach has some part of fat I want to try a diet but my mom says am too young to take one right now especially since am growing(<14barely). I really want to get a strong stomach muscle especially since some ppl made fun of me when i was 11years old all fat and chubby saying I would never get muscle . If someone can help with some advice at overcoming this problem it will be useful.

PS:Am thinking about joining Boxing to help me get thin and i really love the sport too. smile_o.gif

rock.gif, ur serious right? nothing worng with having a bit of fat man, infact most soldiers have a beer gut and sixpacks man, means s***, u can be fit and still have a a slightly chubby stomach smile_o.gif, look at the royal marines for example, they ned a certian layer of fat on them so the can keep warm, as they do a lot of arctic warfare training smile_o.gif

What exercises have you been doing, how often, how many reps of each?

You can have strong abs and still have a layer of fat, its all just genetics and body fat percentage.

i think i read this somewhere in a book, it said "everyone has a six pack already they just have to work off the layer of fat and stuff"

If you really need to get a sixpack and loose some weight at least wait until you have stopped growing. You will loose your extra fat as you grow. I think a diet and hard workout would do more harm for you. It could delay your development which would mean that it would take longer until you become and adult and grow muscles..

I would rather live without a six pack knowing I can enjoy a sixpack and bag of snacks anyday I want...

You're less than 14, that's a bit young to be worrying about not getting a 6-pack from working out. Give it a couple of years.

Yeah don't worry about it at age 14, I was short, chubby until I was 14 and then I grew 8 inches... %)

I think that can vary from person to person.  When I was 14, granted I was closer to 15 than anything, I joined my schools football team. (American football, not soccer!)  My development took off.  Starting Freshman year when I had just turned 14, I had started a slight growth spurt, and then nothing until I joined football.  Since then, physically I've become much stronger and more developed.  But then again I don't diet, especially during the season.  In the few hours I'm home and awake a day I cram in about two square meals and lots of snacks.  (Carbs are my friend!)  Might not be the textbook way to phyiscally develop, but it works for me.

14 isnt a bad time to start working out. If you want to lose fat do a lot of cardiovascular(spelling?) workouts like running, swimming, ect. DONT GO ON A DIET TO LOSE WEIGHT like the Atkins diet and all those BS carb watching diets. If you want to get more active, you need a high energy diet with lots of carbs.

Abs are the easiest muscle to tone. You can get cut abs with minimal workout. All I do is 2 sets of 70 crunches and 70 situps every other day. I also run about 15 miles a week.

Another way that helps define the "6 pack" is an exercise where you have your feet elevated on a chair or something, and try to touch your arms to your legs (while keeping your arms tucked tight to your torso). Do this as fast as you can an as many times as you can. When you cant do any more, keep in the position and wait untill you can do some more.

The truth is, you can get those perfect abs by doing 5 mins of plain old crunches 3 days a week. Hell, that's what I do! My ab workouts consists of a few different types of basic abdominal exercises like crunches and leg raises 3 times a week. No machines, no 8 minute abs video tapes, nothing. Just me and the floor. The workout usually lasts about 5-15 mins. Its the diet and the cardio that give you the low bodyfat that allows your abs to be visible. Not the Ab doer dolly swing fling thing useless piece of crap blah blah blah! You get my point.

So, next time you see one of these infomercials, be happy. Feel good about yourself. Why? Because you know the truth. You know the big secret, you know that somewhere out there is someone who is ordering this stupid product right now... and your not! Be happy that you know what you really have to do to get the perfect abs you've always dreamed of.. and lucky you.. you even got to save your $19.95!

Thanks alot to the replies very helpful. I've been doing ab excercises from reg. situps,crunches,law enforcement abs,etc.. For now I think am just going to join boxing,do lots of cardio, and just eat healthy food instead of fast food like mc's,TB. And as I said I can see the abs it just the little fat covering them from junk foods.

Sorry to disappoint you but that is utter rubbish!

Fat in any form won't keep you warm at all. On the contrary!

Women have more underskin fat than men, and  it's scientifically proven that women are less able to keep warm.

So it has no meaning at all - unless you happen to be a seal,killer whale or anything like that  smile_o.gif

The only thing that keeps you warm in arctic climates are propper clothes and a fair amount of knowledge about avoiding humidity! I and most Norwegians with me should know because many of us served in the military north of the polar circle  wink_o.gif

Women have more underskin fat than men, and it's scientifically proven that women are less able to keep warm.

Ahah! So THATS why they always complain about being cold in the most mild of conditions. I thought it was some psychological thing. ghostface.gif

Hehe exactly! I read about it a few years ago in the papers.

I really hate it when I can't leave the terrace door open to get some fresh air - just because "WILL YOU CLOSE THAT DOOR IMMEDIATLY 'CAUSE I'M FREEZING" .

Remember that there's a difference between dieting and eating healthy. Don't think that you can go eat burger king every day just because you're not on a specific diet. If you eat healthy and keep working out (try to do an all-around exercise routine too, not just situps every day) you'll eventually get the muscles you're looking for.

Low bodyfat is the key. If you want truly visible abs, you'll need a bodyfat of around 10%.

The exercises that are typically advanced as helpful for building mass are pretty much useless. Doing 500 situps a day won't get you anywhere fast. If you want to actually increase mass, you need to eat the right diet and do isolation resistance excercises such as weighted crunches. Similarly, a lot of compound place secondary emphasis on a strong core, so doing them will also help.

If the strict lifestyle is really for you, then starting lifting at a young age would be good coz I imagine it would be a lot easier to fall into a routine and lifestyle.

Sorry to say this, but to aim for a sixpack when you are that young is not a good thing to do. There is a reason why your body has a certain percentage of fat before and during puberty. Even if you eat very healthy it is gonna stay that way. Going on a diet is contraproductive and will harm more than it does good.

Reducing your intake of sugar and saturated fats is a good start. One is important for strong bones and the other for a strong heart.

But to do a focused training is just plane silly. (I am being straight forward). Currently your body grows and so do your muscles. So give it an overall impulse that muscles are being required, do all sorts of sports including swimming and rowing and you will have a well shaped body by the age of 17-18.

I'm only a year older than u Deathbullet but that layer of fat is nothing to be ashamed of. If u saw a pic of me. I look chuppy but I'm pretty fit. I reconmend (Dont have too wink_o.gif ) I did Karate for 2 years and I was loosing weight and learning self defence. Two birds with one stone.

If its your lower stomach you think needs work, try stomach crunches and when doing sit-ups consider adding a twist at the hips when you reach the top of the sit-up.

How tall are you? A lot of stomach excercises place strain on your back, im 6'2" and theres a lot of stomach excercises I stopped doing for that reason.

A general weight training program is a good way to go, and if you cover all the main areas over 3 workouts a week you well see a knock on effect around your abs. I managed to get a flat stomach and thats enough for me really, i concentrate more on weights.

If you want a "movie star" 6-pack, join a gym cause the abdominal equipment they'll have well be a lot more effective than sit-ups/cruches in your bedroom. If your looking for just a flat stomach and six pack you can see when you tense up, do what it says in Hit Squad Maximus said in that quote.

Hit Squad Maximus was right with that quote, I know skinny guys (skinner than me) who have abs with very little work,

14 years old eh? Well it is never too early to start building yourself. Start doing some energetic sport and at the same time go to the gym for weightlifting. DONT do any of those carb watching diets as you are still growing and you need everything you can get. Dont eat too many sweets or fat food, go out in the sun frequently, dont drink/smoke and always sleep early (before 1100). You may not see the six pack you expect but you will see definite improvement in your body and by the time you get 18 you will feel great and if you still want it, built the 6 pack you want... And DONT EVEN THINK about steroids in your age. To look lean and muscular you need to have no more than 8% body fat. There are calculators for that in the internet but I dont think they apply to your age. By the way, what is your height and weight?

can anyone clarify what a "six-pack" means?

I'm not a native speaker

is it that your abdomen has muscles like bottles? (my wild guess)

then whose idea was it to associate a strong abdomen with beer bottles?
