MAAM: Mutually Accepted Ammo & Magazines addon, Version 1.30

************************************************************

A customized version of Ballistic Addon Studio's (BAS)

Joint Ammo and Magazines (JAM) addon.

MAAM's first version was produced by The Avon Lady, of The OFP FAQ.

Version 1.3 compiled and edited by Cornhelium, with big thanks to BAS and the OFP Community.

The OFP FAQ: http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq

Email: theavonlady@theavonlady.org

---------------------------------------------------

Requirements:

1. OFP version 1.91 or greater.

2. AMORE.

3. Community Soundpack for MAAMv1.3, OR Rainbow Soundpack for MAAMv1.3

---------------------------------------------------

Installing MAAM:

Perform the following steps:

1. Extract the enclosed file, MAAM_Magazines.pbo, to OFP's \RES\Addons\ folder

or to an OFP mod folder of your choice.

2. Install AMORE by downloading and executing the AMORE Installer:

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa.....00.exe

or manually extract and install AMORE's files from this RAR archive:

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa.....00.rar

For information about AMORE, click on the AMORE menu selection at the OFP FAQ:

http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/

3. Download and install one of the new Soundpacks:

Community Soundpack:

--------------------

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa....ack.rar

Rainbow Soundpack:

------------------

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa....ack.rar

Simply extract the .rar file to your OperationFlashpoint directory, allowing any older files to be overwritten.

4. (Optional) Download and install the Repeater Sounds for the Community or Rainbow Soundpacks. These make AI machine gunners sound more like they are using full auto:

Repeater Sounds for Community Pack:

-----------------------------------

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa....ity.rar

Repeater Sounds for Rainbow Pack:

---------------------------------

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa....bow.rar

Simply extract the .rar file to your OperationFlashpoint directory, allowing any older files to be overwritten. If you don't like the repeater sounds, simply repeat the install from Step 3.

5. (Optional) From this zip file, move the MAAM Sound Demo.Intro folder into your OperationFlashpoint\Users\yourusername\missions folder. This is an editor mission on the Desert Island, allowing you to quickly preview and identify most of the sounds (the soldiers are named with their weapons' sound filenames). I recommend you hit F6 in the editor to show markers.

6. (Optional) From this zip file, move the BAS_Isle_MAAMRebelRoad_v1.1.BAS_I2.pbo into your OperationFlashpoint/Missions folder. Thanks to BAS for allowing the conversion of this great mission. All soldiers are now armed with MAAM weapons and magazines. Most MAAM weapons and magazines are also available in the Gear selection screen, so you can try out the new models and sounds first hand! Note: Mission requires BAS Tonal/Tango pack.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary Of Changes:

1.30 - New sounds for most weapons - big thanks to the OFP community & Uziyahu

- Separated magazine fire sounds for AK47/SKS/RPK47, AK74/RPK74, RPD/PKM, M16/M4, M60/M240, Remington/M21, M203/GP30, RPG/LAW/M136. These previously used the same sounds. Now you can tell who's shooting at you! (Please see MAAM_Credits-Filenames.xls in Amore external files)

- Added separate reload sounds for most of the default MAAM weapons. (Please see MAAM_Credits-Filenames.xls in Amore external files)

- Changed the bullet fly and some of the bullet impact sounds. They are generally more varied and noticeable now. (Please see MAAM_Credits-Filenames.xls in Amore external files)

- Added M249, RPK-47 and RPK-74 to the default MAAM weapons set. Big thanks to Earl for the M249 and RPK-74 and Inquisitor (and original CounterStrike authors) for the -47. Weapons can be found under MAAM - Men/Auto Rifleman, for all sides.

- MAAM now uses top-notch models for the AK-74, AK-74GL, AKS-74U, AK-47, AK-47GL, M60, PKM and FAL. Big thanks to Earl, DKM_rambozo, Ak74m, and Inquisitor (with credit to original CounterStrike authors)

- Added some new MAAM groups for all sides: Rifle Squad, Rifle Squad with Fire Support, Rifle Squad with Sniper Support, Fire Team, Sniper Team.

- Added a new MAAM unit for all sides: Spotter (for Sniper Teams)

- Added BIS_WeaponPack to the config in the required addons section. Should fix error messages.

- Corrected a couple of typos in the Soundhits section of the config.

- Included an Editor mission allowing players to quickly identify and preview all the weapon sounds. Recommend turning markers on (F6) in the mission editor to see how the ammo is grouped by caliber and cartridge size.

- Included a conversion of BAS mission Rebel Road (with thanks to Nagual). All soldiers use MAAM weapons and magazines. Most MAAM equipment is available in the Gear selection screen. Mission requires the BAS Tonal/Tango pack.

- Included an open config file, with all 1.30 changes highlighted (Recommend using Wordpad to view the file - Word screws up the formatting!)

---- Known issues with v1.30: AKM Riflegrenade - grenade doesn't show when loaded (Needs new modelspecial) ----

1.20 - Corrected missing flying bullet sound effects (with thanks to OFP player Cornhelium).

This error exists in the original version of JAM2 as well.

1.10 - Compatibility with the ECP Mod incorporated into MAAM's configuration. With thanks to

OFP player Killswitch for the work. Note that this change doe NOT require that the ECP mod be installed.

---------------------------------------------------

Notes:

------

I have converted BAS' popular JAM (version 2) addon to a format

where all of JAM's sound, script and weapon inventory picture

files are externalized from the addon's PBO file. This will allow

for easy customization of these files by individual players or by

other addon makers.

BAS has permitted this conversion. In MAAM's initial version, everything

in MAAM works, looks and sounds no different than what was made

available in JAM. As such, first and foremost, I would like to thank

BAS for creating the JAM addon and for allowing it to continue under

the new MAAM tag.

The benefits of MAAM over JAM are:

1) MAAM places all of the addon's weapon sounds, scripts and weapon

inventory pics outside of the main addon PBO file. This allows for

maximum customization without having to modify the addon's configuration.

Simply replace one external file for another that you prefer and

you can customize MAAM to your liking.

2) The BAS team would not permit the ongoing development of their JAM addon

using the JAM tags. However, BAS has granted fully open permission to use

the MAAM version of JAM and to modify MAAM as anyone sees fit. As such,

it will now be possible for the OFP player community to maintain MAAM and

add new ammo and magazine definitions to it or modify existing ones.

---------------------------------------------------

Converting Existing JAM missions and addons to work with MAAM:

Generally speaking, all that's needed to be done to achieve this is to

change all references of "JAM_" to "MAAM_" within mission and addon files.

EXTREMLY IMPORTANT: You, the player community, can make or break this addon. Get a team together, mutually agree on implementing configuration changes and take advice from the players and addon makers. Failure to do so will result in a dozen or so non-compatible versions and offshoots of MAAM, which is totally contrary to its original purpose. Good luck! wink_o.gif

Sample mission (don't get excited): MAAM Battlefields, a converted version of OFP's original Battlefields SP mission, using MAAM defined weapons and magazines.

Edit: might not be online till tomorrow night. Gotta run! wow_o.gif

Much appreciated.

One of the first things we need is to create new inventory pics that have MAAM, instead of JAM, stenciled on them.

Is there a volunteer in the audience? Once they're ready, I'll be more than happy to whip up their AMORE install file.

I also hope this will promote AMORE as a method for installing external files like music, sounds, pics and scripts.

Interesting initiative. Let's see how this turns out. Initial findings/suggestions:

ClickTeam must die

I need a version of the AMORE stuff in non-installer format. Bog standard, useful .RAR will be fine. Do I really need to state the reasons, again? (Keywords: "installers","suckage","back holes". On a more serious note: development, efficiency and dedicated (linux) server deployment.)

ECP compatibility

This one is dead easy and completely transparent to non-ECP users. Either go grab the ECP-compatible JAM2 on OFPEC or just use the one I made: <span style='color:red'>EDIT: link removed - the fixes have been incorporated into MAAM</span>

The development process

How will this work? The workflow? The process of getting a new MAAM weapon/magazine suggestion reviewed and accepted into MAAM?

I mean, I can see it now... config kiddies wanting their special hand held Magnum 16" Ultra LGB handheld RoboCop replica with 48x scope and SmartBombâ„¢ launcher attached into MAAM. tounge_o.gif

good idea

just one thing, try to use some mathematical formula to caculate ofp values based on real ones

direct hit:

((power kj)^0.25)*8

indirect hit:

((power j)^0.5)/25

indirect hit range:

((power j)^0.5)/500

useful page

and Discalc from dkm to caculate dispersion

I think this was a particularly nice idea.

Good show.

If the purpose is for a single MAAM config that is accepted by all, then Killswitch had the very first thing that must be done..

-Workflow and approval.  Someone must be there to give final approval of additions/changes.

After this, maybe a selection to poll on by the community each week:

**M16 sounds to vote on**

1- BIS's (bis wavefile attached to listen to)

2- Suchey's (Suchey's wavefile attached to listen to)

3- Fischkop's (etc)

4- Red's

5- ...

**RPG sounds to vote on**

1- BIS's (bis wavefile attached to listen to)

2- RHS's

3- Red's

4- ...

Just some thoughts so most ppl are happy (by democratic vote- no electoral college- the majority anyway tounge_o.gif )

Whats up with JAM2 ?

The BAS team does not approve of its ongoing modification but they don't mind if another addon copies JAM 100% and simply is changed to use any other tag except JAM.

Hence MAAM. smile_o.gif

Regarding the Clickteam Installer, I will put together a ZIP or RAR file with paths retained. But you should all know that the installer does not modify your Windows registry in any way.

As for the other things mentioned here, slow down. I'll get to some of them. Others will require a team effort to take responsibility to handle this addon.

UPDATE: The MAAM external files RAR archive is now available for download:

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa....ler.rar

Again, for easier installing, I still recommend the executable installer instead but now you can chose. smile_o.gif

UPDATE: The AMORE installation files are now also available in a RAR archive:

http://www.filefront.com/?filepa.....00.rar

This in particular does not have to be voted on. Since all of the sound files are now externally located in the AMORE repository, everyone can replace a given weapon's sound file with any other of their choice.

You must, however, replace sound files with another that has the same file name and is the same audio file type.

That was easy! biggrin_o.gif

EDIT: Using MAAM and the AMORE method allows for potential sound mods. Expand you horizons and think about ultimate weapons spoundpacks, easily installable, with no need to configure anything. smile_o.gif

Look at my previous posts a page back and the updated ReadMe in the thread's first post. You now have both the AMORE install files and the MAAM external files available in RAR archives.

Though as I pointed out, the executable installers for these files are very elementary, doing nothing more than finding OFP's installation path via Windows registry, copying the AMORE and MAAM folders therein and they do not update your Windows registry or install files outside of their given folders.

ECP compatibility

This one is dead easy and completely transparent to non-ECP users. Either go grab the ECP-compatible JAM2 on OFPEC or just use the one I made: MAAM config (ECP compatible)

Thanks! smile_o.gif Can you summarize what had to be changed to achieve this? Once I understand everything done, I'll put out an updated version of the MAAM_Magazines.pbo file. wink_o.gif

I mean, I can see it now... config kiddies wanting their special hand held Magnum 16" Ultra LGB handheld RoboCop replica with 48x scope and SmartBomb™ launcher attached into MAAM.  tounge_o.gif

Indeed I warn of this concern at the end of my initial post on this thread.

Of course, how many players will download a config kiddy's version of this or any addon?

My main concern is that various respected addon teams will adopt the MAAM standard (and why not?! It's simply JAM2 but open to some external changes that do not affect its configuration) and then argue between eachother as to what should be changed and they won't reach a mutual understanding.

I think this goes a long way towards what someone mentioned on the Y2K3 forum. Well done Avonlady!

Great initiative AL!

I already have one wish for the future. Increase the size of the object that blocks AI sight (i.e. jam_smokeblock.p3d) when using smoke grenades.

The size used in JAM2 is to small to be usefull when sitting in armoured vehicles.

For personal use I have made an "fixed" P3D-file that I'm happy to share....

Give us all some details about this differences in the blocking effect between the original P3D file and yours.

What do others think of your suggestion? Please post your comments. smile_o.gif

Does this P3D file affect just the AI or also players? rock.gif

It's quite simple. The object used in JAM2 is to small to be to any use in armour battles and IMHO also not overly effective for infantry use. For personal use I just increased the size of the object that blocks the view for the AI (smart workaround to the problem ;) so smoke screens becomes a tad more effective and therefor more usefull...

The highlight with JAM2 besides the HD ammo is that smoke grenades now blocks the view for both AI and players, fixing a major flaw being there since the release of OFP!

i assume RHS would join maam if we get f a i r values for east weapons (only my opinion). we were willing to join jam (we did it afaik), but jam ppl did not want to balance the weapons.

Well let's start from the beginning again. smile_o.gif

What do you want changed?

Why didn't BAS want the changes?

What effect will these changes have on existing mods, addons and missions that already incorporate JAM and would want to upgrade to MAAM soon?

So does it change the visual smoke effect as seen by players? If so, can you be specific as to how much different the visual effect is versus JAM's original P3D file?
