If you create any addons using tools we provided, you are bound by the corresponding licence agreemeant - and it says quite detailed what you can or cannot.

Summarized answer for most common situations is: You cannot distribute anything for money, unless you get written permission from BI Studio first.

The day I buy a non-professional product for OFP is the day I give myself a haircut with a pair of rusty pliers.

Planet of War came out long before BIS released it's tools, so they probably made use of own or user made tools.

do I understand you correctly:

"hey, I consider developing & selling addons for this game but I don't have the game yet".

isn't that a bit weird?

You do NOT understand him correctly. It's only the use of tools like binarize and stuff that is restricted by BIS. Everything else, ie the game, is protected by copyright only. POW is not by BIS and is does not distribute any of BIS protected files, so they have no say regarding POW.

I was not saying anything about the copyright issues

from his post, I just get the impression that he wants to makes missions/addons, but that he has never played the game so far

something in the sense of:

"Hey, I'm gonna make addons for this game, what's the game like in fact?"

I think enigma_x only has the MP_Demo right now. (at least that's what he said in this thread)

ditto. MS Flight Sim has really been ruined by payware addons and utilities. To get a real nice aircraft these days, you'll usually have to spend $.(of course there are a some definite exceptions). At first they were just a little bit, maybe ten or fifteen dollars, but of course they're now like forty or fifty dollars. mad_o.gif The path the FS community has taken over the last few years is really angering and tragit, especially so since many of the people see no problem with it. sad_o.gif

If you're making an addon for a game, you should be doing it because you either wanna make the game better, or because you enjoy it, not because its part of some get-rich-quick scheme. If just doing it to make money, then you're hurting the community.

well the only thing i would consider ok is to ask BIS for permission to sell cd-roms with huge addon packs.

e.g. there seem still many users out there using slow connects and for those it could be quite hard to download a 200-300mb addon pack from one of the bigger mod groups. so if they had the opportunity to buy the thing on cd for like $10 or so, the price mainly covering the effort to make the cd and to ship it, plus maybe $1 for helping to maintain the mod´s webspace or so, this would go ok without hurting anyone. you could still download the stuff for free...

but sth. like: "get this new m16a2 addon for only $4,95" would definately be out of the question...

but... if i could earn enough money by selling addons to make a living, i´d be doin nothing else and probably come up with a new final addon release once a week tounge_o.gif.
