"OFF the WALL Team" Continue making missions?

Recommended Posts

The reason why I am asking. Is because...

The reviewer over at OFPEC gave, "Big Game Hunting" a

very bad rating. So maybe we are out of our league.

Or maybe he is a lousy hunter.

We thought with all the comments here, that you guys gave us. The mission was a hit!

So what do we do now?

We will let the OFP Community make the choice.

Sincerely, MilitiaSniper

Keep at it, your missions are original, fun and a good laugh instead of the 500 'go here and kill all the russians then the end trigger wont work' missions out there.

Dude, are you kidding?! I see a big wave of special operations missions coming up real soon with the new addons everyone is working on. You stop making missions and the community won't see hardly any spec ops missions. How could you abandon that new jail addon, the woodland seals project, not to mention the other special operations projects like nightstalkers, lasers, col. klinks dynamic buildings, all that stuff together is going to call for a hell of alot of action for the ofp enthusiast. People really love spec ops missions.

I will second that! I'm tired of playng "U r super-ultra-uber-delta deep in russian territory and must kill 100 soldiers and blow up 50 bases".!

Continue teh work!

OFPEC is very harsh in the mission reviewing area.

I've gotten a few emails and comments saying that my missions and campaigns were pretty good (like you guys) and they've gotten low ratings on OFPEC. So unless you're a scripting god and/or pay them extreme amounts of money, you'll get a bad rating...

No i dont agree their reviewing methods are good , sometimes though a reviewer might over estimate an mission but never degrade it. If a mission doesnt score well first look for the reason WHY? then think about it.

Obvious reason why this mission didnt score higher was it was frustrating , i tried it too my jeep broke and i couldnt walk to the other side and i might very little people to kill only 2-3 and this was after wasting 15 mins walking around the mountains crazy_o.gif

I can understand that things like that can bring a mission down. If a mission is like having to look at placebo's avatar, then there's no debate about it getting a low score.

Do continue, militia.

One man's meat is another man's poison. If u truly enjoy assembling missions together, dont let any reviewer stop u. More importantly, do it cos u enjoy it and thot to share it with others, not do it just for the rest cos u may get disappointing comments.

Truly if we as a community depended upon good reviews to progress, this community would have not have gone as far as we have seen it progress to today, probably only 1 or 2 high and mighty mods exist only. We progressed cos we believe in ourselves and mavericks exists to blaze the trails for the rest of us, never fearing what the hell armchair specialist will comment. NO FEAR! Some will love it, some will hate it but overall, sit back and enjoy the feeling u had achieved and learnt something and contributed to the community. Many thanks for your missions.

Yeah you try driving a 85' vintage jeep across rocks with OFP's physics on which says when you get near a rock you have to act as if your in quicksand crazy_o.gif

Besides even i do have the jeep with me what do you expect me to do keep driving on a 52km2 isle trying to find and kill a few buggers who are sooo spread out that its impossible to find them and when you do whats the fun in that?

Remember this is Cats Afghan isle the bridge is broken and to get across the other side you need to go NORTH then east then south again , quite a ride a boring one at best.

I could do this in the editor myself too thank you very much biggrin_o.gif

Look! All we ever wanted to do was to make different missions. Missions that had humor or just being,

"OFF the WALL!"

I sometimes get bored playing spec ops, or capturing or defending a town.

Yes in the (SP) version of, "Big Game Hunting." There is the jeep repair bug. But it is fixed in the (MP) version. Which you can stick in the mission folder and play as a single player.

Hunting can be boring. But thats not the point.

The point is... The is a, "$#its and giggles" hunt.

Never intended to be serious. And thats where the reviewer

lost all points to the mission.

"If you don't like hunting! Then don't play this!"

With all the people here on the forums that posted about the mission. Seem to enjoyed it very much. I think they got it.

(The humor!)

So I will leave this poll up for a week or two. And let the OFP Community decide our fate! The community know what's best for the community.

If you haven't played it yet and want to decide if it was fun or whatever.

Here is the link: Big Game Hunt (MP) version.

This is the multi. player version. Because the jeep bug is fixed. Just stick it into your, SP mission folder.

Should still work.

Look i know what you mean this is a 'funny' mission (that however is a perspective thing) BUT the point is it doesnt deliver any solid action or gameplay which MAKES you laugh or have much fun. Hunting ONLY lone afghanis isnt fun especially if its the same dialog repitition all the time no surprises or unexpected easter eggs along the way (you on my drift?) ,it got boring after a while doing nothing but shooting some guy after a 10 mile search.

And you're fooling yourself if you are putting yourself at the mercy of people who visit this forum to decide whether you should do what you like to do  rock.gif . I mean if you like the mission keep on making them iomprove on them learn from them instead of grouching about it , if your standing for universal popularity here i am sorry you wont stand long here. Do what you want and carry on why ask others about a thing you do in your pasttime for your pleasure?

I'm not grouchy.

I can tell that your not a hunter.

But thats ok.

And the next thing is: Give the OFP Community credit.

The community knows what's best. I trust in them.

If we aren't good enough for them. Then I don't see the point in continuing.

We do this for the sheer pleasure of making people happy. To smile and to forget their problems even if it's for a short time.

Do me a favor: Go back and read all the comments here on the forums. "Big Game Hunting!"

And it seems to us? That the one's who played AND POSTED a comment. Enjoyed it! (So it seems!)

And the reviewer never takes that into question.

And there's the problem!

No hearts broken! Ok?

If your not grouchy then go and make another mission biggrin_o.gif

What do you mean by 'your not a hunter' ? This is OFP were talking about here if you havent forgot , there is little scope for what your trying to achieve through this mission , if you wanted to make this a fun mission i can offer you tips on afghan jokes and some other things which might give players a bit of a laugh if you want to implement in this mission.

I still reserve what i said and i think the OFPEC reviewer gave a fair handout too if your having a hardtime with it i am sorry.Just because 'some' people on this forum thought it was funny doesnt means it goes for everyone around the world too.So plz get over it.

Hey ace, give em a break, will yer? Sadly its comments such as yours that make others forget about contributing to the community. Ask yourself this ace, if u contributed freely something to the community and u get negative and naggy comments, how would u feel? I am sure u would have pack up and go off in a huff to keep your pride intact and have nothing to do with this 'ungrateful' community.

Mission making is more tougher than addon making and to even dare to publish it is a brave thing to do. I am sure the militia team are prepared for negative feedbacks and i am sure your comments have their best interest at heart too, but perhaps u can make more constructive comments than what seem like hurtful attacks?

That way the community would progress. In terms of addon making, thanks to the encouragement of many in the community despite some spiteful comments, we may have even surpass the dreams of the original makers and probably created ofp2 on our own.

Only lacking perhaps is in the mission making department, but of course, we could do it on our own in editor but its different if missions comes from a different international source and perspective. Some will be good some will be bad, but with each try as long as we are encouraged to make attempts, we could only get better. We will only be lousy and remain lousy if we dont even try.

I am not saying that u should call a pile of dung to u a bouquet of roses, but perhaps u could reconsider why its a pile of dung to u, how come it landed on u and that u should speak from your own perspective rather than to claim to speak for the others? Constructive criticism will go a long way and destructive criticism will only make us all losers. No hard feelings ace, next time i'm in town, i'll buy u a beer and tell tall tales of our combat experiences! tounge_o.gif

Like I said, "I'm gonna give this a week or two."

If the community here wants us,  (Mainly me.)

I will continue.

I appreciate everyone who is standing up for us.

I am gonna scratch the mission, "BEER RUN!"

Anyone who wants to complete it.

Let me know!

I am working on a mission, Where you are a Marine  on guard duty at a refugee camp. (During a Civil War.) And the camp is being attacked.

You must defend the refugee camp. While under attack. CH-47's are landing and trying to get all the refugees and aid station workers on board to take them to a ship out in the ocean.

It's alot like what happened during the last few days of Vietnam. When everyone was trying to flee from the N.V.A.

So what do you all think?

Talk to you all soon.

I'm at work. So I gotta get back to pretending I'm doing something. LOL!

Hey philcommando , i know what you mean and i agree with all you said but i dont understand the part where you say i am hurting militiasnipers efforts? I am merely giving him frank crticism how would he know how to improve if he doesnt sees the faults? And my opinion isnt a lone stick in the desert here obviously the OFPEC review echoed the same things i said.

And if you didnt notice i DID offer constructive criticism and even help to militiasniper to improve this mission. I could provide him with ideas and how to execute them too in the mission if he wants.

And just for the record i wont run away if someone disliked some mission of mine , if people like it fine they dont then again fine since i usually create missions for fun and the challenge of it.

Yeah as long as its non-alcoholic beer , i am a muslim you see biggrin_o.gif

I don't really like your missions very much but some do. Who will it harm? Just 'cause you got a 1/10 score doesn't mean everyone will hate it. Some people will still download it and like it. Like I said, it doesn't harm anyone. It's not like you are gonna kill somebody just 'cause you submit a mission.

OFPEC reviews are meant to be tough. Anyway, they did you a favour..... Missions scoring 1 are much more popular than missions scoring 2 or 3. tounge_o.gif

And whoever said it above is right, if you want to make a mission you go right ahead and make it.

Pfft.. Even though I shouldn't have to reason OFPEC's reviews here, I'll try to sum up why this everyone's loved mission got 1/10.

OFPEC doesn't value fun much. Sure, the fun playability and originality have an effect on the score, and that's where the 1 point came from.

By OFPEC's review standards all missions must have an ending, AND naturally the mission must be build so that the reviewer is actually able to play the mission to it's end.

Missions that can't be finished by the reviewer after fierce efforts are considered as faulty and either get no review at all, or a 0/10 depending on the overall quality.

So, OFPEC isn't saying that all the missions that get 1/10 are totally worthless, but rather that the editing side of the mission isn't all there.

Saying "The mission got a bad review" is not accurate. In fact the mission got a good review from one of the best sites to review ofp missions. Only the score was bad, not the review, and if you compare 1/10 with all this publicity to not being reviewed at all, I think you can be pretty happy with the outcome. biggrin_o.gif

By the way, I voted Please Continue! wink_o.gif

OK! OK!

The HUNT does end.

It's set on a time limit of 1 hr. (I think)

So you will have time to bag and stalk everything.

You got to think in the game.

If you run around on the map. You may never see anything!

I put objects out that point in the direction of every target!

ALL the calls work. Some work on some, and not others.

THIS was the first attempt to put a $&it's and giggles hunt mission together.

The only thing that did not work was the jeep repair.

But that is fix in the MP version!

I really don't care what score we recieved.

But the way it was worded, I thought was lousy!

WE thought it was a hit with the community!

Anyways for all who enjoyed the hunt!

We are pleased!

All who didnt. I'm sorry!

So let's all move on!

Sincerely, MilitiaSniper

Welcome to the internet guys... you will always get people telling you you're worthless, or what you've done is no good.

I'm not saying OFPEC did that, just that you shouldn't let anyone stop you from doing something you love. ;)

Take what was said on board (as it was good advice), and keep at it. When you're making missions you class as 'off the wall' (that's what you guys are aiming for, right?) it's pretty unfair to expect a good score when the scoring scale you use is conventional! smile_o.gif
