Balschoiw 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Hi ! I bought Thief 3 yesterday and wanted to share some pics with you as some of you also might be interested in the game. The campaign is awesome so far. Gfx can´t cope with Far Cry but I hope there will be a performance patch soon, so I can max out the system. It´s stealth, hide, panic, lots of stealing and exploring. I love it Here are some ingame pics: watch the light effects In a tavern used by guards. illumination of a nice room The overall atmosphere is very good. The music is spooky and the characters are as great as ever, so are the dialogues. I have an issue with my comp though as I had some freezes already. Anyway it was worth the wait for the ones who are not afraid of the dark
DarkLight 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Looks really dark indeed I once played thief (the first one) and i really enjoyed it... Haven't tried a demo of the 2nd or the 3rd yet but i seriously doubt that our computer can handle graphics like that... Dunno actually, i don't know a lot about computers It just looks too good if you ask me  Not possible that i works here Is it 3rd of 1st person?  I saw some pics with a 3rd person view and to be honest i think a 1st person view would be a lot better... What d'you think?
Balschoiw 0 Posted July 6, 2004 You don´t need a high end system to run it in my settings. I have Athlon XP 2800 , 9800 Pro ATI, 1 Gig Ram (thx OFP) and that´s it. I run it at 1024 resolution. You can switch from 1st person to 3rd person with the "v" key. I don´t like 3rd person though. I prefer to see through the eyes of the thief
IceFire 0 Posted July 6, 2004 I have only played Theif2. I never finished it though. I would only play it at night because that would help the mood. It was one VERY realistic. You truly feel like you are the theif, a very visceral experience. I have a bunch of these games that I have not finished or even started. I finished OPF coldwar crisis. I only started the first few missions of red hammer, but never finished it. And never even played resistence yet. And I have the GOTY edition. I only got to the missioin in theif2 where you have to go to the bank to steal the key. I stopped there. I just don't have time for games. I have too much to do in real life. bn880 5 Posted July 6, 2004 Meine videokarte sucks too mcuh to play Thief 3. apparently they messed something to make it require PixelSHaders, even though they use an off the shelf game engine. (AFAIk) I like Thief though, played 1,2.... My friend tells me it is almost the same as T2.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Good game, beat it a while back. A worthy addition to the franchise.
bn880 5 Posted July 7, 2004 I just wish Thief was multiplayer, where you could go around town competing, and if you spot each other you can cause the other person to be caught or kill them.
shadow 6 Posted July 7, 2004 I just wish Thief had semi- and full-autos That timeline is'nt exactly my favourite.
norsu 180 Posted July 7, 2004 A nice game if you have a high end computer. Too bad XBox influence gave the game loading zones and made 1st person movement quite inaccurate. For Thief fans like myself there are many tweaks to improve the challenge, performance, graphics etc. For example you can enable bloom and edit the defaul.ini file to remove the ugly aliasing effect, makes the game look very nice. I hope there will be SDK soon .
EiZei 0 Posted July 7, 2004 And when you guys make your way to Cradle, prepare for . Yeah, im thankful that I didnt play that level during night.
Acro 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Old news. I already played the game through but yes i got admid that Thief 3 is one of the best looking games around. Â
sanctuary 19 Posted July 7, 2004 I just wish Thief was multiplayer, where you could go around town competing, and if you spot each other you can cause the other person to be caught or kill them. There is a Thief multiplayer (you can play in solo to) : it is called Thievery and can be found THERE But it requires you to have the old Unreal Tournament. Simply the most impressive total conversion i ever played in video gaming, complete recreation of the Thief gameplay, physics, beautifull huge maps. A must download for Thief fans. Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 7, 2004 Okay, the first 2 games were realy new and had fabulous new ideas. Not shoot and run but hide, trap and snipe. But I fear I had enough of that by now. Sam Fisher has successfully robbed this genre and succeeded against Thief. Does thief have a chance?

Sam Fisher has successfully robbed this genre and succeeded against Thief. Does thief have a chance? Comparing Splintercell to the Thief series is like comparing white socks to blue ones... If that makes any sense.... In my opinion they are very different games, Splintercell is simplistic and quite a beige attempt at the sneak 'em up genre. I just got wind of this being released, never saw it coming Well, I am downloading the demo right now. Will see about buying it sometime this week

At least for me Thief 3 is more intresting than some Sprinter Shell with some fisherman. I happen to like fantasy games/ rpgs.
norsu 180 Posted July 7, 2004 Yes, its setting is quite different to SC. Plus the story is much better. *edit* Thief feels like you are in a world while SC feels just like bunch of missions.
Dauragon 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Wait whats this game about? every screenshot i see are about an old medieval style room with lights What do you do? do you kill? do you get killed? What is the point? what must you steal if you steal? damn this is so confusing
monkeygoat 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Thief 3 is a good game, but unfortunately I don't think it has lived up to the high standards of the first two games.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 7, 2004 I havent played the new version, bals did. But the first one was (or did I play the second one)...well anyway I bought in a compilation of BEST GAMES and it was the only one I realy enjoyed playing... BUT IT WAS HARD! But the first one was (or did I play the second one)...well anyway I bought in a compilation of BEST GAMES and it was the only one I realy enjoyed playing...BUT IT WAS HARD! Heh, you should try completing the game by 'ghosting'. No alerts, using minimal equipment and collecting maximum loot. Now that's hard .
Balschoiw 0 Posted July 7, 2004 The new one really is addictive. I has complex plots a lot of funny things and it´s fun to crawl up walls to enter a hidden room or choose have numerous ways to solve your mission. The "life" in Thief 3 is great. People on the streets great each other or have funny conversations sometimes. All characters and races have different accent and way to speak. It´s fun. And it´s scary as hell. Have you been to the orphans house yet ?    Edit: bavarian languageconfusion
GoOB 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Couldn't get the demo to install properly (some WinRar issue I figure....) Well, tomorrow I'm going to head out into town and buy this game If I understand things correctly you can wander around the city when not on missions? I read in a review that you can enter houses inhabited by regular citizens to steal their savings and stuff like that. And also peddle off your loot to shady blackmarket dealers
Balschoiw 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Yeah sure and there is a like/dislike system for the population groups. I´m a friend of the Hammerboys while the Vege´s really hate me. I wonder why... It nice to sneak around in those houses and streets but you are always on mission. The whole game is a mission.
Antichrist 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Pretty good game, unfortunately it was given to Ion Storm who showed that they can screw up anything. Like they did with Deus Ex 2. The main problem is that the game was made for X-Box as well as PC, and levels are extremely tiny. They're even smaller than original Thief levels. And considering that they are using Unreal 2 engine it is pretty pathetic actually. But I love it, since I was always fond of Thief games as you can see from my avatar... IceFire 0 Posted July 8, 2004 The only thing is theif 2 has a VERY low replayability factor. Once you have played through it, you can't play it again. It needs more random AI.
