JdB 151 Posted June 6, 2004 Quoting myself here: Quote[/b] ]In 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power. Under his rule things that seem so ordinary now, were gradually forbidden. Things such as freedom of speech, self-determination and freedom of religion.People were forced to wear signs of distinction on their clothing, and where put in ghetto's, denied equal rights, and gradually no rights at all. People that were "different" in the eyes of the dictator were to be bullied, beaten, thrown out of their houses, shops and factories, put in concentration camps and eventually murdered. All over the world young men and women enlisted to form an alliance against this evil, the greatest evil this world has ever known. 60 years ago, on June 6th 1944, the first step was taken to bring down the regime of Adolf Hitler, one of the most vicious regimes the world has ever known, and free Europe from tyranny. On that day over 150.000 allied soldiers landed in Normandy as part of Operation Overlord. Around 10.000 infantrymen, paratroopers, sailors and other personnel were killed or wounded in the largest amphibious assault in history. Many of these soldiers fought and died for people they didn't even know, which they couldn't even speak to, because they didn't understand their language. This thread and all of the WWIIEC releases on June 6th are dedicated to the sacrifice each of these men and women made, and a tribute to the price they paid so that other people could be free to go where they want, say what they want and like what and who they want. Another thing that should not be forgotten is the risks taken by resistance networks throughout Europe, that made possible the printing and distribution of neutral newspapers, information gathering, sabotage and other acts of resistance. Many of these brave people paid the ultimate price in their quest for freedom. Also to remember the civilians that lost their lives due to aerial bombardment, executions out of vengence after acts of sabotage, accidents, abuse, torture or quite simply being unwanted by the nazi's, that lost their lives during the 1933-1946 period. I am proud to bring you the D-Day 60th Anniversary Memorial Object Pack made by myself.
