Desantnik.

No point in releasing a movie with the old units...I am working daily on new ones and there is a bunch of them already...

Same goes for stills.

The CW MOD page will be regularly updated with stills from now on, so all info will be available there.

The saber has been ditched, the officer uses regular pistol anim now (the reason why it was done like that before was, that old models were used, that didn't show the pistol...).

The group under your command puts on bayonets with the "Order: Fix Bayonets" command in the unit menu.

BTW...check out the ADDONS section of the CW MOD page, weapons and artillery introductions are complete.

That is awesome!

well its just a teaser!

Anyways... I was wondering if you have added any death screams yet? Those guys need to yell when they take cold steel in the stomach... crazy_o.gif

By the way... those units look absolutely great!

No, no custom screams were added.

If one comes to think of it, there could be so many extra stuff added to just about anything...but as that just multiplies work (and currently I work up to 5 hours on the mod every day after coming from my 9 hour shift at my job crazy_o.gif ), that would be just too much, and we'd never meet the deadline of Christmas, that we have set upon ourselves.

There is still much to do...making new units (officers, cavalry, zouaves), fixing bugs (just yesterday we fixed one we randomly found...soldiers had the capability of walking through walls and fences due to strange geometry LODs), fiddling with scripts, packaging things in certain order, etc.

I'm sure that eventually, after our work is released, some enthusiast will find the inspiraiton, time and will, to thoroughly re-work our work (permission will be given for that, naturally, as we got it from everyone to use their previous work)...to improve models even further, to make textures even more lifelike, etc, etc.

Hopefully some good missions and campaigns will also be made by talented individuals (I sure won't do them myself  tounge_o.gif )

Here's a little update on the work...

T.

hi, that should now only be a suggestion.

did you think about making a gibbet to do for example death penalties.

like you give the man the order to mount the gibbet, there he gets a rope around his kneck and hands on back, and if you give the order to let him down he has to die.

maybe with that could come a scaffold.

and many other torture machines, if go on with that you could make a mod with that.

Tomislav...perhaps this is the wrong thread for the idea.

For the rest...here's an update:

CSA Officers:

Looks great, but the way the officers are holding their weapons looks a bit strange. Maybe you could fix that with an animations pack or something.

I liked the Napoleonic Flashpoint very much and I bet I'll love the CW mod!

The picture looks great!

Christmas is the release date? xmas_o.gif Nice!

Great! I've been waiting for this stuff since I first found Napoleonic! But if you'll insert the "setunitpos" to the units, so that no codes are needed, could you make it so, unlike the G8's units, that they will go prone when hit to the legs? As it was very annoying to play the G8 when your legs were shot lol.

Could it be possible, like CAPAIRMAN said, to re-animate the way they hold their pistols? One-handed with a flintlock, man!

And remember, put some HORRIBLE recoil and inaccuracy to those guns then!

Ok...

You ask for an update, here it is...

Yes, guns are pretty inaccurate. Especially muskets and revolvers. They also recoil and make such a cloud of smoke, that it takes some 6-7 seconds before you can see if you hit anything...

Anims...currently we have none, though, of course, we'd prefer to see our soldiers shoot standing up straight, officers shooting pistols with one hand only, etc, etc...if someone will offerus a good (ready-made) solution for this before the release date, we'll include it, otherwise it will perhaps be added later.

See...people have been waiting for this too long. If we put in all our wishes, we have enough work till April here and that is too long a wait, isn't it?

Ok...pictures.

CSA officers you see above, here are the CSA soldiers:

CWmodCS2.jpg

They do use "setunitpos {UP}" in config, so they're always figting up straight. Except if you command them to lie down.

The down side of that command is that they don't put arms to shoulder when issued the "at ease" command. They always aim. We'll see if that can be fixed...

Here are the US soldiers:

CWmodUS2.jpg

The US officers are still in the making. I hope to have them done in a few days.

This are the two main cannons:

CWmodguns.jpg

Also featured will be the Armstrong heavy gun and the Coehorn mortar (pics on CW MOD site).

The rifles take around 15 seconds to reload, the cannons around 25-30. All rifles, pistols and cannons are introduced in detail on CW MOD page.

Still haven't solved the problem of ammo for the soldiers. Currently one bullet is one "clip", so that we get the musket reload animation after each shot. But this limits ammo to 10 bullets per soldier (except for Spencer repeating rifle which has clips of 7 bullets). If we give soldiers one clip of 40 bullets with 15 sec reload time it works, but there are no reload anims, and that doesn't look nice then.

Bayonet script is standard UKF one, with its advantages and disadvantages. Basic problem is, AI uses bayonet only if issued command to use it. Enemy AI formation has so far never charged me with the bayonet yet.

We also made a bunch of objects. Wooden fences, stone walls, etc, that are incorporated in Pickett's Gettysburg island:

CWGetty.jpg

So...we're working hard to make the Civil War experience as real as possible, but we are, of course, limited with the OFP engine, and even more our knowledge on making the engine do exactly what we want it to ;)

Still working hard to finish in time:

-US officers

-cavalry troops for both sides

-zouaves for both sides

Triglav

Can you not give them a Winchester rifle?

According to this and other article, it was used in the Civil War by the Yanks smile_o.gif

EDIT: Oh, and what about an early wheeled gatling gun?

A very interesting mod, congrats tsalagikola., fantastic work there!

Shoulder arms:-

If u are the commander and command them to shoulder arms, they wont...until u the leader shoulder arms. Ingame workaround - init:- this setunit behaviour 'safe'. Alternatively, General Barron has a made a great script that will control the up and down positions of soldiers espacially for built up areas fighting.

Single clip:-

sigh..i know what u mean. There is a limit to what the soldier can carry. Normal soldiers can carry about 5 magazines of 30 rounds each = 150 rounds. But unfortunately, the config can only accept bullets in packs/mags:-

weapons = {rifle}

magazines = {riflemag} // this is acceptable.

magzines= {singlebullet} //still acceptable but only 1 round.

magazines = {smallbore, smallbore,smallbore,......} // haha! u will never see ofp opening up, it will crash!

...guess we gotta figure single shot weapons workaround.

A Henry rifle (Civil War version of the Winchester) is planned, but not a priority. It was rare. like the Colt revolving rifle.

Same goes for the Gatling. We have it already made actually.

There is just some problems still with the animations of the revolving barrels. But only one or two ever saw service in the civil war anyway...

CWGating.jpg

Try to see this first release as a "Basic Civil War" add-on pack. In it will be most of the things you need to recreate the various skirmishes and battles in this war.

Specific things such as Dictator mortar, Swamp Angel cannon, river gunboats, monitors, ironclads, model of generals Lee and Grant and such...these can be interesting little things for later, but not the most important things for the general feel of a Civil War mod, so our priorities are elsewhere.

Please, be patient. smile_o.gif

Triglav

Whith that magazine problem your having. I havent tried this but would it work to put somthing like:

cost=0.00000000001;

in the config ammo?

One of my units would only allow 4 mags or it would CTD then I added that into the config and I put like 7 or 8 mags.
