SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Quote[/b] ]LOS ANGELES -- The famously fit Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, on vacation in Hawaii, helped a struggling swimmer on a boogie board make it safely to the beach, his office said Friday.Schwarzenegger, who has been on a 10-day getaway with his family on Maui, was swimming toward his wife, Maria Shriver, on Wednesday when he noticed a man ''in distress in the water'' clutching a boogie board about 100 yards offshore, said Margita Thompson, the governor's spokeswoman in Sacramento. ''The governor could tell there was something wrong,'' Thompson said. ''He asked him if he was all right. The man said he had cramps all over.'' Schwarzenegger towed the man to safety, she said. She had no information on the ailing swimmer, who apparently walked away unaided. ''The governor told him to hold on to the boogie board, and he swam him in,'' she said. ''Access Hollywood'' co-anchor Pat O'Brien, whose family is vacationing with the Schwarzeneggers, provided a slightly different account. O'Brien, who did not witness the aquatic heroics, said Schwarzenegger borrowed a boogie board to bring in the man, who by his estimate was 200 yards offshore. Shriver ''came up and she said, you know, 'Did you hear the big story?' She was kind of laughing. She said Arnold just pulled a guy out of the water,'' O'Brien said. ''The guy wasn't drowning, he wasn't going under, but he was in trouble,'' O'Brien said. Maui County Police Sgt. Richard Suapaia said police received no emergency calls regarding an endangered swimmer and that no report involving Schwarzenegger had been filed. cozza 24 Posted April 11, 2004 Wish Arnold Schwarzenegger rescued me from a danger. Micheal Schumacher also did the same thing except he swam 10kms to Mononco after his and his wife boat broke down. And told Rescure people and they help them. God bless celebraries.

Wilco 944 Posted April 11, 2004 He swam 10km? Yikes I couldn't even walk that  All his money and he doesn't have a radio and/or sat-phone?  Maybe he did, but he wanted to go old school style and pretend that he didn't.

SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Im not suprised by the Micheal Schumacher story. Formula 1 drivers need to be very fit.

Apollo 0 Posted April 11, 2004 I'm not sure about the Shumacher story however i agree that any F1 pilot would probably easily swin 10km if not way more. These guys have to endure lotsa g pull when driving their cars and they have to be strong to control such a beast for a few hours. But about Arnold ,well ,although it's probably some publicity stunt frankly i'm not really so impressed by the rescue of one man struggling in a sea.You guys ever seen Baywatch? Why does Arnold has to steal those bouncy lady's their jobs? To be serious there are thousands of comman folks around the world who attend and often rescue peope at beaches or swimming pool's withought getting fame for that ,and these people have been trained and equiped to do such a job faster and more effeciantly than a governor could. So a governor saves a man ,big deal if i would see a man drowning i would rescue him to.My wonders is where the beachguards were! DracoPaladore 0 Posted April 11, 2004 The speed some of those cars go, I wouldn't be surprised if they could be considered pilots.
Guest Posted April 12, 2004 The speed some of those cars go, I wouldn't be surprised if they could be considered pilots. Actuallly because they produce so much downforce if the racetrack was upside down, they would still stick to the track in all but the slowest hairpins. True! shadow 6 Posted April 12, 2004 Well, he did race a Eurofighter one out of three times or something, but his ride still got no wings and retractable gear. So I call him a driver, not a pilot As for the Arnold-story. I believe the story. Why would he make it up? It's not like he needs the extra publicity. He's probably the most known person on earth... Balschoiw 0 Posted April 12, 2004 ++Exlusive++Exlusive++Exlusive++Exlusive++Exlusive++Exlusive++ Exclusive photo from the heroic rescue mission This pic was taken short after Arnold Schwarzenegger (right) saved a drowning swimmer (middle). Maria Shriver (left) commented : "Arnold is my supadupa hero !" Bystanders (back) already lined up for autographs from the supaduba hero
cozza 24 Posted April 12, 2004 Ummm ok. I thought he was older. Is it me or is Arnies wife really hot (Not in Bals picture but the real Arnies wife:)) The thing with Micheal Schumacher. He did the swim to save live but the distance was unknown. Some like 6-8 km.
brgnorway 0 Posted April 12, 2004 Quote[/b] ]but his ride still got no wings I hate to be picky my friend but his car has certainly got wings - inverted ones creating downforce Almost the same as an aeroplane - only turned upside-down
ozanzac 0 Posted April 12, 2004 To end the pointless and off topic debate on drivers and pilots. Pilots (and golf clubs) are sometimes called drivers too. Ever heard the term 'turkey driver'. It refers to someone who flys an F-14. The same terminology is used for some other pilots of other aircraft types as well. Anyways. Arnold story: Sexed up. You bet. Whoopty-doo factor. 100%. edit: Lol @ Bals!
-33ker 0 Posted April 12, 2004 In German we sometimes call F1 drivers "Formel 1 Piloten". Â But who cares? Arnold's story could be right. Though, he doesn't need more publicity, unless he screwd up as a governor.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted April 12, 2004 this is not a publicity stunt or urban legend IMO. Pat O'Brian is host of show callled Acess Hollywood, which is shown on NBC. and several other news are also saying same thing.
m21man 0 Posted April 12, 2004 Quote[/b] ] Is it me or is Arnies wife really hot I don't think Arnold needs any more publicity, so this probably is a true story. His life is already so "sexed up" that it doesn't need any more "sexing" .
Winters 1 Posted April 12, 2004 Well the media did exaggerate the story a bit. The man was not drowning he was struggling with cramps and Arnie helped him to shore. But good job in any case.
