Desert 5t truck pack.

Recommended Posts

Yes these trucks are still used.

Generally however they are used more for hauling cargo and for dumping operations (for doing construction).

The main troop carrier truck however, the old Vietnam era, but kick ass "Deuce and a half" (2 & 1/2 ton truck) is now being replaced by the new FMTV trucks.   The old Deuce was a real soldier...very solid, fast, and reliable.

But the new FMTV is also a fantastic truck and is much more versatile then the old Deuce.  Info on it is here:

The old M35A2  "Deuce and a half" (2 & 1/2 ton truck 6x6) still haunts the Army and other US military units the Airforce Navy and Marines still keep em as the newer 5 ton isn't out in high enough numbers nor the hemmet.  I was in a unit where the newest Duece and half was had a production date of 1945.  The military just kept updating them and updating them instead of replacing them.  In fact that unit still has there, they at last had to give up the M151A2s for HUMMVEs only about four years ago.   Funny deploying a few times and the other units going hey quit kidding around where your humvees.   Er what humvees, we never got those.  =)  Another unit have to loan us their for the mission and babysit the Mutts.  Held the mutts mostly because they were better for driving around in urban areas.  The HUMVEEs often were too wide for the narrow streets of Boston.

The five tonners are usually direct front line units while the old 2 1/2 tons are support and other missions now.

Yeah that's kinda what happened to my old Reserve unit although they finally had their Deuce's replaced.

I'm sure alot of people miss the Deuce's. One thing I liked about them was their tremendous speed and acceleration power. Those trucks could really haul ass for such old trucks. Many of ours still had the old white star that could be seen beneath some of the peeling layers of paint.

But they were updated with power assisted steering, automatic transmission and new engines.

With those updates they really could have gone on probably for another 10 years easily.

But the FMTV's are great replacements. The FMTV's are nice not only because they are more versatile (very easy to reconfigure and modify for different jobs), but they also give the driver a much better field of vision while driving where as the old deuce had way too many blind spots which resulted in many accidents.

Nevertheless I have many good memories of the old Deuce and a half trucks. Both the old Deuces and the new FMTV's would make for great addons in OFP.

I learned to drive a stick in a duece in the Army.

It was the funniest thing...Just picture a artillery battery in column moving in the desert and some where near the back is this duece and a half literally bouncing by its front end down the trail...lol

I think I was getting a good foot of clearance under those front tires hahahaha

Great work on these. Goes great with Tonal.

What did happend with BAS desert pack?

They stil working on it, but I recon that the BAS one will be a major download, so this addon comes really handy for mission makers that don't want the fuss and just want some nice dessert truks.

Besides, they may be different models to the ones in BAS, I'm not sure if there is any diference between the 1991 5T and the current days ones.

Sorry for the late reply, been having a break from OFP.

Anyway I havent seen Abuu in ages, and no longer have a contact for him, but I see that you have released and im sure he would be fine with it, especially as you have given credit, gotta love Marfys textures though, Mmmmmm.

...

Cheers

Jonno

So everything went fine I think.

I incorporated these trucks into my Sand Stinger mission.

I've noticed that there's a crackling sound when driving the truck. No, I do not have the classic crackling sound bug, common with old SB Live audio cards.

For one thing, I don't have an SB card. For another, no other addons causes this sound. And I can reproduce it every time, with no exception, when I drive one of these.

Well having skimed through it noticed that its the same old bis truck, with different textures added, and the config altered. should be calling up the standard vehicle sound the 5 ton uses..

I'll look a little deeper into it..

Save your efforts. I tried the standard BIS open 5T truck and it has the same noises.

I find that hard to imagine.

Just to be sure, my testing was with no sound mods. It's a very small amount of crackling static sound at some point in the sound loop but it's noticeable.

I have that, i thought it was fruit of my old SBlive pos, other than that this SB owner has no crackling whatsoever in his OPF smile_o.gif .

Hi avonlady,

I too had this problem before i began using the ECP/DR addon but sometimes still detect it in the background ( i have an old SB live with outdated drivers as well, i really must update to something more modern)
