llauma 0 Posted March 4, 2004 If I want mineral water I expect it to have natural minerals from a deep down icecold fountain. And Evian is indeed an example that expectation can be met at the same price. The consequence is clear, dont congratulate Coca Cola for the Marketing cause IT FAILED BIG TIME. This label will be erased (I bet) and harm to the brand is the consequence Dasani has been on the Market for quite awhile in the U.S.. Why is it such a big deal that they get tap water and filter it? This is what every water bottler does. Did you not know this? Those companies who claim their water is from some natural spring are taking you for a ride - they get the water wherever the hell they can - all in the name of the bottom line. If Evian's water is from a Natural spring, that doesn't mean the water from that spring is particularly clean, or dosen't have to be filtered anyway. If your local water supply is partly fed by a spring then you could bottle tap water and claim it's from a spring. Our tap water is taken from a natural spring... No difference to any bought water. One fun thing I saw when I was in Washington DC was that they sold Polish water Anything is better than polluted Polish water..
Harnu 0 Posted March 4, 2004 Water in a can! Those bastards stole my idea! Anyway, there isn't a lot of point to buying bottled water. But I think its a lot better than standing still over a fountain for a while. So I'll buy a bottle or two from time to time. Usually just refill it at a water fountain when I need more, tastes just the same.
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted March 4, 2004 strangely enough people, i like tap water. if ur living in north america, you might think im strange, but i love the stuff. im not sure how europeans look @ tap water, but most north americans wont touch the stuff. but hey, its free, and if you couldnt drink it, and it wasnt safe, i dont think it would be made so easily available. plus i live in a medium sized, industiral city. (home to GM's largest north amerian plant) i think it adds something special to the water.  so i dont really care if coke is selling stuff thats probably not alot better anyways I live in The Netherlands and down here it's quite normal to drink tap-water or bottled-water. I drink at least 2liters of tap water a day just because I like it and because it's better than drinking 2liters of cofee  This coca-cola drink is pretty smart of them, but won't be a real big succes here (if they'll market it). We dutch people are way to greedy to spend money on stuff like this. We rather have our own tap water that's for free (almost). ironicly I use a Fanta bottle which I refill with water every day and take to my work
ozanzac 0 Posted March 4, 2004 Just my thoughts, but when I buy a drink, I make sure it has a taste. I.E. I don't 'buy' water. If I wanted water, I'd go to a tap, preferably a water fountain or suck on a cube of ice. I buy beer, juices, and occasionally Gatorade/Powerade. Only ever have soft drinks when they come with a meal. And only drink water when it's free. I congratulate Coke and Pepsi for being able to market something like tap water. I wish I could market something with a mark-up of 3,166 per cent!
Lucretius 0 Posted March 4, 2004 If tap water is 99.9% pure than what the hell is the "extra" purification for?
raedor 8 Posted March 4, 2004 I congratulate Coke and Pepsi for being able to market something like tap water. red oct 2 Posted March 5, 2004 i never drink name brand bottled water. why pay a dollar for a 20 ounce bottle of mineral water when i could just go to this health food store i know of and get 5 gallons worth distilled water for only 25 cents or 20 gallons for a dollar. and imo distilled water tastes a lot better than the bottle water coke or pepsi put out on the market. Harnu 0 Posted March 5, 2004 The only "bottled water" I can say I truly enjoy drinking is Clearly Canadian. I think it's natural Canadian spring water, but carbonated and some flavor in it. Delicious if you ask me, drinking one right now
IceFire 0 Posted March 5, 2004 Harnu, I've drank those drinks. And sorry to let you know, but those arn't bottled waters. They are soft drinks. There is a huge difference.

ale2999 0 Posted March 5, 2004 ya dasani has been out in Canada and US for quite a bit. I dont know about dasani, but when I used to live in italy I drank bottled water all the time, and it came from springs where there were natural minerals already. Also in europe they sell water with CO2

toadeater 0 Posted March 6, 2004 My fave bottled water: Now that's the idea. Avoid the brainwashing flouride additives in water at all costs! The Communists have been adding this stuff to America's water supplies for years, in an attempt to turn Americans stupid! Those water-peddling pinko Commie bastards have everyone convinced that you need drink water all day long, every day. Now ask yourself, why would they want people to drink so much water? It's the flouride! Once they've got everyone dumbed down, they'll invade! If want to save yourself, the only safe thing left to drink is alcohol. Preferably whiskey, but Bombay will do. Now go out and tell everyone what those Commies are doing, we've got to stop them before it's too late!
Rastavovich 0 Posted March 6, 2004 The whole story makes me wonder if my "Instant water powder"-idea would have any chances on the market. Take the powder, add some ordinary tab water... and you will have delicious (.....tab...) water....
Wilco 944 Posted March 6, 2004 I'm so far away from this conversation, but Dasani isn't that new of a bottled water .

joltan 0 Posted March 6, 2004 http://www.metroactive.com/papers....910.jpg Ah, right protect our 'precious bodily fluids'. Hehe, I love that movie! More on topic: I often buy bottled water. First, if you live in an area where you have very chalky water some good bottled water from a mountain spring simply tastes much better. Where I live now I've got very good water quality, so I'm making my own sparkling water from tab water, but when travelling (and I do that on a weekly base) I always get me a bottle of Evian or something similar. Tastes good, light-weight bottles and the best against thirst. It's simply not true 'that water tastes like water'. The mineral contents of it makes for quite some difference. Without sugar and other stuff to hide that you can easily taste the difference.
EiZei 0 Posted March 6, 2004 Bottled water is useful abroad quite often yes, I could not drink tap water in spain because it tasted like chlorine.
joltan 0 Posted March 20, 2004 Coke recalls controversial water Quote[/b] ]Coca-Cola is to recall all bottles of its Dasani water in the UK, after levels of bromate were found to exceed legal levels. The recall is an embarrassment for the drinks giant, which has faced criticism for selling what is treated and purified tap water. Coca-Cola said it had consulted the Food Standards Agency, which agreed there were no immediate safety fears. The recall of about 500,000 bottles is expected to be completed in 24 hours. Talk about a PR suicide...

Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 20, 2004 You guys didn't know this? Dasani has always been just the purified water they use to mix Coke and other carbonated drinks.
Bernadotte 0 Posted March 20, 2004 This is nothing knew. The Coca-Cola BonAqua brand of mineral water is also just tap-water. And they didn't try to hide it in any way either. Actually they did. I was on the inspection team when their first Bon Aqa plant was completed, about 10 years ago. Â We were all amazed that their was no mineral spring even though the label stated "natural spring water." Â They made us sign non-disclosure agreements, but it didn't remain secret for long. Â A consumer group won a very brief law suit to correct the labelling. I still remember telling Coke's rep that Bon Aqa was missing the letter u. Â His reply, "Oh yeah!!" after which it was changed. It is well known that it's just tap water - but they claimed it to be especially 'purified' - and now it looks like the water quality is rather below average than above... ;)
