Charon-VW:BB- 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Shoot civilians? Tell me in which level you have to shoot civilians to finish it? Ok the Vietcong units look like civis but they have guns & shoot at you. I can't say if you are able to shoot the villagers which are sometimes arround without getting some kind of punishment because i didn't tried it.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted September 14, 2004 2nd mission you are inside the village seeking for weapons. One farmer freaks and runs away. You got to stop him... so you can either A stand in his way (though he is faster than you) or B shoot him. Once you shoot him your comrades will blow away the entire village killing all inhabitants. but that doesnt matter cause once you find out that they are holding a hostage and you find a farmer having a silly bread knife . Surely, reason enough to wipe out the village. There are many scenes where your comrades kill innocent civillians... of course for legitimation of brutality everyone all of your civillians enemies always have dangerous tiny little knifes. So once one of your friends gets killed you storm a red light districts and you got the feeling your friends have fun killing underaged prostitutes.
Charon-VW:BB- 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Yepp tried it again ... but he ran in a circle so i finished the objective without running after him (as i had done it before) but then i lost control over my trigger and shoot him down. And you are correct: If you kill him the peacefully villagers turn into a angry mob and attacking you and your team. Some kind of punishment isn't it? But for some reasons this shouldn't be in a pc game so i agree with you. It's the same with the prostitutes. But one pro again: VC female fighters. Vietcong only has male fighters. Hate it or leave it.
Gollum1 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Haha, oh man, this game is pretty sad, it looks and plays like a 3 year old PS2 game on the PC. *uninstalling... edit: clarification
GoOB 0 Posted September 14, 2004 Hrm.... I have only played the game for a little while (on the PS2)... And I must say it is complete and utter crap. I never thought that it would be a good game however. Looking at the website was enough to turn me off to it. The worst thing about it however, I have only read... Is it true that the story is basically just Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" (which Apocalypse now is based on) but with a Vietnamese antihero?
Heatseeker 0 Posted September 15, 2004 @ Sep. 14 2004,13:40)]But one pro again: VC female fighters. Vietcong only has male fighters.Hate it or leave it. Is there really a need to have female fighters in a game, especialy a gorish one with decapitations and missing limbs and stuff , no need to go so far on the realism, a game needs a fun element and real war isnt fun, i say leave women out of violent war games, Vietcong was fine the way it was, could use villager women but other than that it was fine. BoweryBaker 0 Posted September 15, 2004 Quote[/b] ]I just get the feeling that if they're trying to sell the game because it's realistic, they don't need to do it by showing so many mutilated bodies. What really matters is I'm glad that I live in a free country like America where I can have the option of seeing a "gross" 3d model of a dead guy in a vietnam game if i want to. Edit: The way some of you are talking, I wouldn't be surprised if the future is like that movie Demolition Man to where even in your privacy you are under censorship. Creative freedom all the way! Not flaming or nothing. I mean all of you well. I just want people to think as a leader. I know you guys don't mind that stuff on movies n stuff. Otherwise you just watch cartoons and don't ever see the news or nothing if that sort of thing bugs you.
hellfish6 7 Posted September 15, 2004 Uh.. the movie was made by a Dutch studio, IIRC. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, unless you count the belief that even stupid ideas should allowed to come to fruition.
Blake 0 Posted September 15, 2004 No matter how much gore, it can't save a crappy game.
DB-ERAUPilot 0 Posted September 15, 2004 No offense to anyone lookin forward to this game..but this game is gonna SUCK ASS. it's pretty much a you versus the world, 3rd person game loosely based on Vietnam that claims to be "gritty" ..whatever
BoweryBaker 0 Posted September 15, 2004 War isn't pretty and I for one believe that it should be communicated this truth. But hey, you tell people and they don't want to fight in wars so in this case the truth hurts people joining the military maybe. That's what the general belief is towards why mutilation n stuff shouldn't be shown. Edit: awaiting the over angry intellectual poster as usual....

Or do you believe that Ofp isn't a war game compared to SSN67? The fact that they look pretty ugly in SSN67 is a fact which annoys me too (btw all units look not really nice) but what would you say if there would be female soldiers in Vietcong? And no doubt: During the Vietnam war female vietcong fighters fought side by side with male soldiers. Perhaps it's only the wrong game which included female soldiers.
