Addon everyone wants

Hunt, all that has is an LA-5. No infantry or armor.

And I know about CoC UA. I simply don't like it. It takes far too long rolling my mouse around selecting number of shells, type of artillery, and, by the time all of that is put in and I have to wait an excruciatingly long amount of time and I finally get the artillery, it usually misses. Well, that was just used for spotting, so maybe I'll call in some more, wait another exruciating amount of time, damn this is getting boring...

It takes me about 5 minutes on average to get one simple volley of artillery in, and another 30 seconds-1 minute to call in another volley and get the shells hitting. By the time all the information is in, I figure: Why not just shoot the bastards? Unified Artillery isn't useful at all in the middle of a firefight. You use it for surprise, but thats it. Since it is impossible to have an actual firefight anyways in OFP, because of our lazer accruate weapons, there isn't any point at all to it unless you are hiding and using it for surprise. You can't use it for a beach landing, since the AI doesn't know how to use it (or it is bloody hard scripting everything so that it DOES), so it is worthless for any sort of ambience. You can't use it in a We Were Soldiers mission, for example, because you might as well just shoot them or use a simle point and click artillery. IMO, the UA works up way too high into the Chain of Command. It is a nice addon, all in all, but some people actually want to use the artillery for other things besides surprise or softening up a target. Because, once the shooting starts, you will either get shot when calling for arty, or the shooting will have stopped by the time you get through with scrolling through menus and actually wait for the artillery, either your team is dead or the enemy is dead. If there were a mode where I could just say I want Artillery here! and then I read off the coordinates, wait for the shells in a compressed amount of time (not instantaneous, but not too long), etc. I don't like having to play as the officer who determines EVERYTHING. I just want an artillery system that can be used in more than 2 situations.

I'm living in Delaware now, where the annual PUNKIN CHUNKIN (do a google search, its quite interesting) takes place each fall. My wife and I went down to the "lower and slower" part of the state to see this. They mowed down an entire soybean field, a mile or so long, and lined up 10 different punkin chunkin cannons at the end of the field. Opposite end, in jest, a church put a bullseye on the roof. The winner nailed the utility shed next to the church and sent it splintered everywhere. HA! The guys that build these things are the guys who couldn't make the volunteer fire department. HA!

Four portapottys for 10,000 people, too. Bwahahaha...

Never before have I seen so many toothless tattooed babes congregated in any single place.

a shitload of small cargo aircraft (both, rus, Nato and res ones) with space for 10 - 15 troops for all those paradrop missions biggrin_o.gif

and a shitload of different arty stuff (using COC UA) for all sides...

and i also want a civilian pack, containing police, medic and all other civilian stuff...

and ofcource MORE SWEDISH STUFF (being made by SFP) ;)

It's all about engagement size. Yeah, a couple of big-ass cluster bombs are much more effective than an artillery mission, but they cost a lot more. There's also the balance issue. The big problem we have in OFP is that we can't model tons and tons of infantry. Oh yeah, and you'll need a much longer view distance than 3 miles if you want to simulate supersonic jets accurately.

That said, yes, I'd like to see more air, artillery and NGF support. And I think I'll work on a demo of how to make an air addon that runs with UA.

And speaking of artillery, yeah deathsai, if you're in close-quarters combat with an enemy squad, artillery is useless. The "we were soldiers" example is quite apt. In the battle of the Ia Drang Valley, at its peak the OOB was something like an aircav battalion with gunships and ARA running full-time support, two dozen M101s (half at Falcon, and half at Columbus), and every spad and faster mover they could get their hands on, against an NVA regiment. The artillery (tube and ARA) and airstrikes were used on the area between chu pong and X-ray. The NVA's objective was to get close enough to X-ray so that the US could not use its artillery. In the words of Tuco, "If you want to shoot, shoot, don't talk."

A skilled observer with UA can get rounds on target in under a minute. Like everything else, it takes practice. And even then, a minute is a long time to wait. ;) Oh yeah, and it helps to have a separate person calling fire.

If you want simplified UA control, instead of using CoC radios, just put this in the init line of the player:

OnMapSingleClick {[CoCIFA0, [_pos]] Call CoCfIFCallFire}

I'm working on a low-drag dialog to get rid of the endless scrolling crap.

Speaking on the naval front, it'd be great to see some PHM's & maybe some Russian Komars for smaller scale littoral naval battles.

I want to see new animations, like new walking, running, safe, combat and such. the ones we have no are too unrealistic compared to how you acctauly move around in modern combat enviroment and by what the army teachs. I would also like to see new bullet hits, the bullet hits we have now are too dinky. Their not even close to real life bullet hits. I want the battles in OFP be dirty, rough, short, and hard like in real like. How it is now its too clean, easy and short. ECP helped alot but there is more that can make it more realistic and fun.

hmmmm, they're alive.... alive i tell you - PUKF is moving to a new server, gearing up for a release and so we have better bandwidth for you - also, looking at the british suggestions, i think that between ourselves and our affiliates, Falklands mod, we will cover everything - good looking SAS, well, we are in talks with another mod to see if we can co-operate and swap resources to bring you these quicker than we could at the moment smile_o.gif

Well, i havent seen much resource sharing going on, its been all me doing work. No offence guys, but you can understand im worrying when jonno refuses to share ANYTHING with me, even if what i want is going to be released at the end of the month...so, work on SAS is going on, work on UKF's SAS is not rock.gif if you catch my drift. blues.gif

Once we get some proper co-operation (rather than this major distrust Jonno has of me) going, you can indeed expect SAS.

Your correct its mistrust, your attitude also plays big part, if you dont get what you want right away you start complaining.

Do you really think im gonna give someone who I hardly know, dont particularly like the attitude of, who shows impatience, and is unable to restrain himself from making these posts, and that I cannot trust.

Thats cost us hours of hard work and research to get to this stage and we havent even yet released, hell, I'd be hesitant if it were someone I did know and trust.

If you cant understand and respect this, then I dont think we should even bother colaborating.

I know I shouldnt of posted this publicly either, but I felt the need to defend my decisions.  tounge_o.gif

Even though this is more of a script/cpp thing than a modeling thing. I'd rather see a stand-alone molotov/incendiary grenade type addon. I know FDF has it and FDF has a ton of really bitchin stuff. However I just have a collection of wayyy too many favorite addons that I use that wouldn't permit me to install a huge mod like that. Mod folders in this case would -not- help since I want to use the cool junk with all the other stuff I already have installed.  wink_o.gif

Sharing is what keeps OFP both alive and interesting.

B) what is the point of agreeing to co-operation where you dont co-operate? At this stage in time, i can post wherever i like, because until UKF pull thier finger out thier ass, i am not going to be getting anything anyway. I felt i was justified into commenting after seeing Messiah posting some utter bullshit about UKF "in talks"...UKF are not in talks, they are damn right unhelpful. Ok, lets redefine that....UKF are helpful, Jonno is not. Want UKF SAS? Make them yourself, because i am not doing 100% of the work on SAS then letting you guys use them for absolutely nothing.

Did you not stop, pull your head from up your ass, and consider, that if you had shown some willing, i might not have posted scathing comments on a public forum? I dont like your attitude either Jonno, your single minded and unwilling to share. Get over it.

For the public it means this. Rather than having an entire comprehensive SAS pack, with Jungle, woodland, urban, desert and artic units in it, modelled by me and textured by jonno, your now going to get Jungle SAS from nightstalker, and probably will never get a UKF SAS pack as comprehensive as what i was going to make, and even if you DO get some UKF SAS, it wont be as quickly as it could have been.

I approached UKF with this in mind, knowning that it would benefit all parties. They were all sweetness and light, and co-operation was agreed....then i come up against Jonno....unwilling to share a single thing. So.....that would mean i was both modelling and texturing an entire pack, when i only would have to model and texture Jungle SAS if i was just making for nightstalker. You can understand why im not happy........

Just to underline, its not a problem with Mav and the rest of UKF, its a problem with the xenophobe, Jonno.....the rest of you are good lads and can recognise the benefits of sharing.
